“For nine years the centre has hosted an International Surgical Techniques in Heart and Lung Transplantation Course, aiming to teach complex techniques in the field of cardiopulmonary transplantation and providing delegates with the chance to witness complex procedures first-hand
“Delegates have attended from all over the world, many returning to begin programmes in their own institutions sometimes with ongoing support from Newcastle.
“The course is designed to provide the cardiothoracic surgeon in training with didactic teaching and hands on cadaveric surgical training experience under the guidance of a faculty of experienced surgeons. Candidates will also implant left ventricular assist devices, practice cannulation for ECMO and gain practical experience of ex vivo lung perfusion.

“This is an intensive two-day course of lectures, debate and practical hands-on surgical practice. The course has a high ratio of faculty to delegates and has received outstanding feedback from those attending each year.
“We look forward to welcoming colleagues keen to train in the surgical aspects of cardiopulmonary transplantation.” For further information and to view the full calendar of courses, please click here
