HSC Results 2020
To the Barker College Community
It gives me great pleasure to provide you with the excellent HSC results from the leaving Class of 2020.
On behalf of over 17,000 alumni whose ranks you join, congratulations. From the scores of teachers, coaches and mentors over your 13+ years of education, congratulations.
This year, like no other, demanded much of our Class of 2020. Yet, you have been magnificent and memorable in every way. You sought ‘to be the change’, and you were. You brought us to new heights in creative and performing arts, in community action, in academic leadership. You are an incredible and resilient group.
For this we give thanks to the Lord for the blessing that the 2020 Year 12 has been to our community.
For the first time, three Barker students scored the maximum ATAR of 99.95. The School warmly congratulates Rhys Mackintosh, Kai Wong and Declan Zammit on this outstanding achievement.
In such a year it is an extraordinary outcome that our students achieved almost the same number of Band 6 scores as last year. In fact, our third highest number overall.
There were 14 place getters, including Declan Zammit, who scored a first in the state for Latin Continuers. We also extend our congratulations to each of the placegetters in Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2, English Extension 2, Industrial Technology, Chemistry, Physics, Agriculture, Investigating Science, Agriculture, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education, Japanese Continuers. Further, Barker had 23 All Rounders (students who achieved top Band results in 10 or more units).
There were 37 nominations for the various performing arts/practical work showcases. In this disrupted year, there were fewer nominations given the fact that Drama Group Performances were unable to be held. Barker is equally proud of the countless students in our graduating year whose efforts surpassed their own aspirations, demonstrating once again that the diversity of the School is a strength. To one, to all, we offer our deepest admiration and thanks.
While the HSC results for students and subjects are released to schools, the ATAR scores were released confidentially to the students alone. Barker is a non-selective school and we are greatly encouraged to see the exceptional effort that our students invested in their work. This augurs well for their future in whatever endeavour they choose to pursue. We continue to be competitive with schools that have selective student cohorts.
The HSC League Tables published in the media fail to capture the countless stories of outstanding effort by students who lift themselves into higher bands by consistent and focussed efforts. I honour them for their dedication. The Heads of Department, Heads of House and all staff are also to be congratulated for their support of the students.

The results listed below are only an attempt to highlight the performance of Barker students in 2020. Barker has performed exceptionally well. To gain a better understanding of these results and Barker’s overall performance these need to be viewed in the perspective of the Barker environment.

Schools do not receive ATARs of students. These have been calculated based on previous scaling parameters and comparisons with ATARs sent to the School by those in the 2020 cohort.
A reminder that the ATAR is a rank, not a mark (the highest achievable ATAR is 99.95).
NB: These ATAR’s have been calculated from the HSC marks provided by NESA and 2020 UAC Scaling points. Note, there are some new courses where scaling information is not available at time of print.
