The Hymn written by...Bob I grew up in a household where my mother was a Christian-and my Dad was not. It was a household where I knew that my mother was kind to me-- and that my father was just there. I grew up in a household where --every time that my mother did the dishes-- she was softly singing hymns to herself as she did. My mother had a heart.

But, I grew up like my dad mentally was-- just being there. I copied my Dad as a child-- well, since he was my Dad. Then, I had gotten a job, and had later gotten married. At that point, I thought that I had it all. I had a wife, I had a house, I had a new child-- along with a new car. I knew that I should be happy-- but I wasn't.

All my life, that TV had told me that I would be happy if I had all these things-- but it was a lie.

I'm sixty-three now. But at age thirty-two --back then-- I was miserable. To me, the world was dark all around me-- and I felt like I was living in box. I was living just like my father had lived-- knowing nothing more inside myself than just the practical things of life.

Then --one day-- my wife was gone with the baby on some errand or other. And, it was me washing the dishes that day. And, it was also me who felt so dark inside too. My heart had been constantly nagging at me: "Is this all there is to life?"

Then, one of my mother's hymns crossed my mind-just out of nowhere. It was a gentle Wee across my heart. It was then that I literally turned from the dishes in my sink and said to the air: "God, if you're real... I need help."

And suddenly, I knew that he, God, was real. And, that somehow my days would not be that dark again.
