The Fourth Annual Get Engaged: Student Action and Youth Leadership Conference brings together 41 students from across Bard College’s international network of partner institutions, including Al-Quds Bard College of Arts and Sciences (Palestine), the American University of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan), Bard College Berlin (Germany), European Humanities University (Lithuania), the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences (“Smolny College”) of St. Petersburg State University (Russia), Bard College at Simon’s Rock (USA) and Bard College in Annandale, New York.

Organized in partnership with the Central European University, and hosted on their Budapest campus, the conference focuses on strengthening the global network of student social entrepreneurs who creatively use the liberal arts as a tool to address challenging social issues in their communities.

The conference exposes students to a wide range of ideas, skills and experiences to help them more effectively lead community-based projects. The Get Engaged Conference is a venue for students to share experiences and exchange best practices, hone leadership styles and network with international partners. The conference is an inspirational and practical space that encourages young people to grow into their role as agents for change.

THE BARD INTERNATIONAL NETWORK Bard Network institutions are linked through a series of overlapping activities that foster the exchange of ideas, mutual learning, best practices, and multifaceted cooperation among faculty, administrators, and students.

Grounded in a liberal arts tradition, the Bard Network fosters innovative curriculums, rigorous studentcentered learning, civic engagement and collaborative educational programs among partner institutions.

The Bard Network emerged from institutions supported by the Higher Education Support Program of the Open Society Foundations and works in close cooperation with the Central European University.

Williams, Jr, Mark The Free Speech Project encourages students to engage in a dialogue of vibrant and dissenting opinions. The project explores questions of class, sex, religion, and race on campus via the Tough Talks Lecture Series, Dorm Room Conversations and Difficult Questions Courses.
