THE SIMPLIFIED KJV REVISION PROCESS
The Simplified KJV builds off the familiarity and trustworthiness of the King James Bible while removing the challenges of its antiquated language and punctuation. Keeping all the original translation work of the beloved 1611 Bible, the Simplified KJV brings many elements of its predecessor in line with modern style, improving both readability and understandability. There are no substantive changes to the original text. Major categories of stylistic changes, along with numerous representative examples, follow.
Revise/update/add punctuation as appropriate.
Break up long sentences by changing colons and semicolons to periods. Capitalize first letter following.
Add or remove commas to conform to modern style.
Change colons and semicolons to commas when appropriate.
Add quotation marks to spoken words.
Run verses together to create paragraphs.
Capitalize divine pronouns (He, His, Him, Himself, You, Your, Yours, Me, My, Mine, Us, Our).
Lowercase extraneous capitals in the middle of sentences.
Fix archaic phrasing of numbers, for example, “thirty and six” to “thirty-six.”
Change “an” to “a” before words beginning with h.
Change “which” to “that” when appropriate.
Update old forms of address:
thougyou
ye g you
thee g you
thine g your, yours
thy g your
thyself g yourself
Update old verb styles, for example, those with est and eth endings. Certain other changes vary by context. The list beginning on the next page shows the types of changes that were made. The updated words often reflect the tone and style of the change but may not reflect the
