Father, my heart is often swayed by the shiny things of this world. Money, fame, beauty, the latest craze, the newest fad—I’ve been tempted and tricked by all these and more. But today I pray for my heart to be intimately entwined with Your heart because You are my true treasure, my eternal prize of love and beauty. In You I will find real, lasting contentment and safety.

Let us thank the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It was through His loving-kindness that we were born again to a new life and have a hope that never dies. This hope is ours because Jesus was raised from the dead.

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.

Jesus, You tell me not to worry about what’s coming. I know this is a wise way to live, but my heart seems to love to worry. Please free me from the choke hold that fretting and anxious thoughts have on me. Let me rest in Your promise to take care of me and anything that can come my way.

Wednesday, January 7

Be happy in your hope. Do not give up when trouble comes. Do not let anything stop you from praying. Romans 12:12 nlv

Lord, some days hope is the only thing that sustains me: Hope in Your promises. Hope that You really do hold me in Your hand. Hope that You will lead me through today’s darkness to a brighter tomorrow. When I struggle, I will not give up. Instead, I will continue to pray while I cling to You, Father. Thank You for always being there.

Thursday, January 8

The Holy Spirit raised Jesus from the dead. If the same Holy Spirit lives in you, He will give life to your bodies in the same way.

Friday, January 9

The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

Lord, I admit that some days I have no idea what You’re doing. When I don’t know what words to pray, please guide my heart and spirit to be aligned with Yours. I will follow You all my days, Father, and I will find peace in Your promises.

Father, I see so much angst and dysfunction and fighting and depression around me. The world lives in a perpetual state of fear and anxiety, but that is not from You. You are a God of order, a firm-foundation God who holds all things and people safely in Your hands. You are a God of ultimate peace. Please help me spread that peace to everyone in my sphere.
