Welcome to Barbizon!
Since being established in New York in 1939, Barbizon’s graduates have graced the covers of top fashion magazines, as well as appeared on Fashion Week’s stages, on television and on the silver screen.
Barbizon is currently searching for new models, actors, singers and dancers to be coached and presented to Hollywood’s top licensed agents, managers and casting directors. Some of our credits include Twilight, Hannah Montana, iCarly, CW’s 90210, Wizards of Waverly Place, Suite Life on Deck, ABC’s Glee, Project Runway, Shake it Up, Good Luck Charlie and many, many more.
Barbizon works with parents to educate and prepare young talent to gain a stronger sense of identity, self-confidence and increased emotional stability, resulting in the power to think ideas through and make the right decisions. For over 80 years, Barbizon mentors and coaches have been assisting teenagers through their most critical years as they mature into young adults. Through it all, Barbizon has maintained a fundamental approach in our training and development. In fact, our approach and methods are slightly old fashioned - we believe that feeling confident in oneself means speaking with authority, walking with pride and dressing with style.
We look forward to meeting you and your family today!

Admissions Criteria
Admission to Barbizon Model & Talent is a selection process. Each prospective student is evaluated based on confidence, commitment, desire, skill level, and parental support.
Evaluation Process
Barbizon selection and evaluation process includes a workshop to best prepare prospective students with the tools and skills necessary to achieve a positive experience and outcome. Directors meet with each family individually to discuss the prospective student’s needs, goals and what they hope to gain from this opportunity. Prospective students must meet or exceed admissions criteria for acceptance to Barbizon.

How it Really Begins
by Mary McGuire
You’re walking down the street. Suddenly an agent or a photographer sees you. ZAP! You’re a star! You’re signing a multi-million dollar modeling contract and posing for glossy magazine covers. You blast off into a wildly successful career. It all happens instantly. True or False? False, absolutely false! Sure the Cinderella stories happen. However, the rags-to-riches scenario is hardly the norm. The reality is that a successful modeling career is based on hard work. So, what is the right way to break into the modeling industry?
First, you must have the desire to be a model. Don’t let pressure from friends and relatives influence you. Motivation and commitment needs to come from within. Once you have made the decision for yourself you are ready for the next step. Take action. Sharpen your raw talent into professional skill. You will need to learn runway, skin care, make-up, photo posing and everything else working models do. To develop these techniques you should consider working with a local modeling school. The modeling school is the place to learn what to do while expanding your understanding of what the industry is all about. Talk to as many instructors, students and administrators as you can. Here are some questions to ask the school representative: Is the school licensed by the State Education Department? What kind of training does it offer? What connections does it have with major agencies across the country?

Make your decision while everything is fresh on your mind. Don’t procrastinate. Remember commitment. Learn as much as you can while in class. Every lesson translates into potential jobs. The information you gather in class and your ability to apply it is what will separate you from the others trying for the same job. I can honestly say if I had not attended modeling school, I would have never had the opportunity to model internationally.
ZAP! Modeling is not built on fairy tales and daydreams but rather hard work and training. Not every model is absolutely beautiful, yet there is no doubt all successful models are dedicated, persistent and professional. Don’t daydream and hope to be discovered -- begin your career now with preparation and strategy.

Stop day dreaming and start training!

What Our Graduates Say...
“Barbizon is one of the best things I ever did for my life and myself... I never before enjoyed being in school and never laughed and had so much fun as I did at Barbizon... Barbizon taught me how to have self-confidence, how to carry myself, and how to conduct myself in an interview, which will help me in anything I decide to do in my future.”Melissa

My daughter has improved so much in her confidence!!! She’s more outspoken, she has made new friends and she’s not afraid to speak her mind anymore. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why would training benefit my child?
A: The performing arts are just like any other profession. Lawyers have to go to law school, doctors have to go to medical school and performers absolutely need to be trained in modeling, acting, singing or dancing in order to become a professional in their field and have steady work. It’s very important that anyone trying to achieve work in any industry have the knowledge, skills and confidence to go on a professional job interview and sell themselves to a potential employer.
Q: Are you going to guarantee my child a job?
A: Absolutely not; there are never any guarantees in life. We can’t do it for them: the only person that can do it is themselves. What we do guarantee at Barbizon is that your child will become poised, confident, well-spoken, and ready for success so that when an opportunity arises (in either the entertainment industry or in any other industry), they are able to take advantage.
Q: I see all these young Hollywood starlets getting involved in bad crowds. Will my child be exposed to that?
A: By helping our students to develop their life skills, building their confidence and self-esteem, they will be better equipped to make good decisions and represent themselves in a professional and responsible manner. They will be leaders, not followers, better able to withstand peerpressure of any kind.
Above all, it’s very important to keep talking to your kids about positive reinforcement and to make sure they have something that gives them ownership. You need to get them involved in something positive that they enjoy doing. Barbizon provides each child with a safety net of peers and instructors that will help build their self-esteem, confidence, resistance to peer pressure so they can conquer the daily challenges they face.
