RESTRICTED Details Regarding the Vacant Post of Artisan Barbados Defence Force 1. Headquarters, Barbados Defence Force is inviting suitably qualified applicants for the post of Artisan. 2. The appointment of Artisan is a civilian post on the Civilian Establishment of the Barbados Defence Force. Among other qualities, confidentiality and trustworthiness shall be enduring character traits which the Artisan must demonstrate at all times. 3.
Academic Qualifications. Applicants should possess: a. City and Guilds or Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic Certificate in Masonry, or Carpentry; and b.
Not less than 2 years’ relevant experience; or
c.
Not less than 3 years’ experience in the relevant trade.
4. Duties and Responsibilities. The successful applicant will be expected to refurbish war graves in the Military Cemetery of the Barbados Defence Force. 5.
Skills and Abilities. Applicants should possess: a.
The ability to apply plaster and cut and lay blocks, bricks and tiles;
b.
Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials;
c.
Ability to make simple arithmetic computations;
d. Ability to operate necessary tools and equipment, such as mixers, compressors, power tools, trucks; e.
Ability to construct forms;
f.
Ability to prepare time and material estimates;
g.
Ability to determine the quality of materials used;
h.
Ability to rig and work from scaffolds.
