APPLICATIONS FOR THE POST OF COMMANDANT OF THE BARBADOS CADET CORPS The Headquarters of the Barbados Defence Force (HQ BDF) invites applications from suitably qualified Class 1 Reserve Officers for the post of Commandant of the Barbados Cadet Corps (BCC). The successful candidate will report to the Chief of Staff (COS) and be responsible for commanding and training the units of the BCC. Qualifying Criteria: Applicants for the post of Commandant must meet the following criteria: 1. Be a commissioned officer of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) and serving in the First Class of the Reserve. Class 2 officers may be considered; 2. Be in the rank of Major with a minimum of 5 years’ seniority in that rank; 3. Have no regimental entries during the past 2 years as a result of disciplinary infractions; and 4. Training and experience in the field of education or youth work would be an asset. Duties, Responsibilities, Terms and Conditions: Particulars of the duties and responsibilities, and specific information regarding the Terms and Conditions of Service for the post of Commandant, will be provided to applicants by the G1 (Adjutant) on request. Applicants may seek clarification from the Chief of Staff on any matter relating to the duties, responsibilities and the Terms and Conditions of Service. Skills and Abilities: The officer appointed to the post of Commandant will be expected to: 1. Exhibit the highest standards of discretion, judgement, conduct, and professional ethics in the performance of his/her duties and responsibilities in accordance with applicable national and Force laws, regulations, policies, and directives. 2. Possess excellent written and oral communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
3. Be familiar with the application of information and communication technology and be computer literate in software applications such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 4. Possess the ability to interact effectively with individuals across all societal levels in advancing the aims and objectives of the Corps. 5. Set an exemplary standard for officers and cadets in personal attire, conduct, professionalism, loyalty, and integrity. 6. Be an individual capable of commanding the respect of the Nation and of garnering commitment and support from the Corps’ stakeholders. 7.
Possess excellent leadership and management skills.
8. Develop a strategy that enhances cadetting in accordance with the national strategic objectives for youth development. Appointment The post of Commandant is an ex officio post. The Defence Board appoints the Commandant for an initial period of 2 years. Renewal of the appointment to the post of Commandant will be subject to the quality of their performance in supporting the COS in achieving the objectives of the Corps.
