THE POWER OF YOUR GENEROSITY
LAST YEAR, DONATIONS PLAYED AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN MAKING THE FOLLOWING POSSIBLE FOR OUR PATIENTS, STAFF AND THE COMMUNITY:
Funding the Primetime Club for members of the community who are 55 years or older. Designed for active people who want to live a healthier lifestyle, this program puts a world of healthcare services and resources at members' fingertips such as physician referral services, defensive driving classes, a physician lecture series and more.
Making a difference for our tiniest patients, helping purchase lifesaving tools for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Cooling therapy, also known as therapeutic hypothermia, is a treatment for newborn babies who have experienced asphyxia After suffering from a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain, a cooling blanket is used to lower a baby’s body temperature to 92 3°F (33 5°C), reducing the likelihood and severity of long-term impairments. Your support has helped equip the NICU with new cooling blankets to save the lives of newborn babies.
Purchasing patient safety equipment, giving nurses and caregivers options for repositioning patients, transferring patients and assisting patients with standing.

Acquiring a bladder scanner for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), enabling nurses to quickly determine bladder volume of patents even those who are pregnant or post-partum. The highly reliable, allelectronic, non-mechanical bladder scanning probe has no moving parts, providing a new level of reliability and durability
Supporting the day-to-day operations of the Walter S and Lucienne Driskill Endovascular Center at Bethesda Hospital West, a state-of-the-art endovascular center that allows surgeons to care for patients with vascular problems, using minimally invasive procedures. Thanks to these new minimally invasive techniques, patients can receive a superior level of care, with less discomfort and shorter recovery times.
BAPTIST HEALTH BETHESDA HOSPITAL PHILANTHROPIC IMPACT 2021-2022

THROUGH YOUR INVESTMENT, BETHESDA HOSPITAL WAS ABLE TO FUND SEVERAL FACILITIY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS, CONSISTING OF:
Making improvements to the Ripley Early Learning Center, providing a special place for the children of employees to learn, play and grow in a nurturing and safe environment. Supporting renovation of the Blum Pavilion, a private wing for Giving Society donors that combines world-class medical care with the comforts of home and five-star hotel amenities
Sponsoring renovations of the emergency department, providing more privacy, updated technology and easier access in situations where every minute counts for patients.

Underwriting the creation of a room for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), a procedure that is an excellent option for qualified patients with aortic valve damage or disease because it is a minimally invasive. This procedure cuts down patient recovery time from four to seven days to 24-48 hours
THE CLINICAL TEAM CONTINUED ADVANCING THEIR SKILL SET THROUGH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING AND TECHNOLOGY GENEROUSLY FUNDED BY OUR DONORS, INCLUDING:
Fulfilling a dream for 10 nursing students presented with scholarships to continue their career aspirations as the first cohort of Nursing Scholars through the Bethesda College of Health Sciences. Providing staff with opportunities to attend the Nursing Consortium Educational Conference, helping nurses refine their skills, become better leaders, find solutions to problems experienced in practice and gain a broader base of knowledge and best practices – all of which have a direct impact on patients
Twenty nurses were able to attend the conference, which serves as a stepping stone in preparation for earning Magnet distinction. This distinction is the gold standard in nursing and the highest international distinction for nursing excellence
Funding staffing and quality care initiatives for the Bethesda Magnet Program, an initiative committed to nurses and what the nursing team identify as important to their practice This designation confirms to the public that nurses working at Bethesda Hospital know their efforts are supported and encourages other nurses to join their colleagues in this desirable and nurturing environment
Supporting the “Nurse of the Year” award, providing well-deserved recognition to a committed staff member. This award is reflection of the approach our organization takes in delivering high-quality care.
BAPTIST HEALTH BETHESDA HOSPITAL PHILANTHROPIC IMPACT 2021-2022 NURSE OF THE YEAR

Nicknamed the "father" of his unit, Sylvain Giroux, R.N., embodies the characteristics of an extraordinary registered nurse - strength, knowledge and compassion. He has been delivering exceptional care to Bethesda NICU patients since 1998 In addition to providing day-to-day care, Sylvain is the “go to” preceptor for onboarding and educating new nurses in his unit, among the many other responsibilities he takes on for his team.
Sylvain also continues to be a driving force in the Golden Hour PI project. Golden hour is the hour after delivery for premature infants that is so critical to creating better outcomes for patients. For many years now, he has been collecting data and educating others on improvement ideas for this population. This year, Bethesda is revamping their golden hour procedure and Sylvain is a leading RN in this transformation
We extend a heartfelt thank you to Sylvain for his dedication to high-quality patient care and commitment to making a positive impact every day
