Baptist Jacksonville earns Comprehensive Stroke Center designation Baptist Jacksonville is officially a Comprehensive Stroke Center. This is the highest level of designation from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, and means Baptist Jacksonville provides a full spectrum of treatment for the most complex stroke cases.

Time is brain.

Baptist Jacksonville’s comprehensive designation was achieved swiftly after the March 17 opening of the new Stroke & Cerebrovascular Center and the addition of two internationally renowned neurovascular surgeons Ricardo Hanel, MD, PhD, and Eric Sauvageau, MD. In the first 12 weeks since opening the Stroke & Cerebrovascular Center, 150 patients have been treated here for strokes, aneurysms and other brain conditions. The center has received emergency transfers from hospitals throughout the region, thanks to our new, expedited patient transfer process.

New CNA Education Program at Baptist Health Baptist Health is excited to offer a 13-week Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program to all staff who have a passion for patient care.

There is no cost to employees who are selected. To meet the requirements for consideration, employees must have: n A full-time position for a minimum of 12 months n No documented counseling for the last 12 months n Manager or director recommendation and approval

Applications are due July 1 for the upcoming session, which begins Aug. 5. The application and detailed information are available on the intranet’s Education Station under the Back to School section.

Extended hours for employees

Our new Vestex® uniforms will arrive in July, but don’t toss out your old uniforms. During the delivery process of our new uniforms, you’ll be able to drop off your gently used uniforms which will go to Global Links.

This medical relief organization improves health in resource-poor countries. If you donate your old uniforms, you not only will help Global Links provide health care to those in need, you will also receive a 10 percent discount on future Vestex uniform purchases.

To better serve Baptist employees, the following offices now offer extended hours:

Global Links accepts all personal uniforms, including tops and bottoms in all sizes, as long as they don’t have your name embroidered on them. Institutional names are acceptable. Uniforms must be clean and in good condition, with no rips or stains.

Wolfson Children’s Hospital

Michael J. Fox to speak at 2014-15 Florida Forum This year’s Florida Forum promises to be exciting and enlightening as the series kick off with Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actor Michael J. Fox on Oct. 13. Other speakers will include political power couple James Carville and Mary Matalin, retired NSA Director Gen. Keith B. Alexander, and former FBI director Robert S. Mueller, III. The Florida Forum is produced annually by the Women’s Board of Wolfson Children’s Hospital and supports the Pediatric Surgical Center of Distinction.

Wolfie plush toys available at Walgreens Walgreens stores in north Florida and south Georgia will carry Wolfie plush toys throughout June.

Consumers can purchase the official mascot of Wolfson Children’s Hospital for $10. This is the third year Walgreens has held this fundraiser to benefit Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Last year’s promotion raised more than $45,000.

Blood drive a big success The Blood Alliance and Baptist South thank everyone who supported our recent blood drive. From your generous donations, we collected five units of blood.

If you missed it, mark your calendars for our next blood drive on June 24 from noon to 3 pm. The blood mobile will be parked outside the main hospital entrance. Register by emailing kristin.collins@bmcjax.com or calling her at 271.6081.

Welcoming summer student volunteers Baptist South will welcome the first group of summer volunteers on June 16 and the second group on July 14. A total of 80 teens will spend two days a week at the hospital during the two four-week sessions. Most of the teens are interested in medical careers and are eager to learn. Please help us welcome these students when you see them.

Baptist Beaches

Safe Sitter classes available Baptist Beaches is offering Safe Sitter classes this summer for ages 11-14. Upcoming dates are June 14, July 12 and Aug. 9 from 8:45 am – 2:15 pm. Topics include first aid, behavioral issues, choking infant/child rescue, injury management, safety for the sitter, babysitting as a business, and preventing injuries. The cost is $45, which includes lunch and all class materials. To register, please call 202.CARE.

Baptist Nassau

Celebrating safe, quality patient care Baptist Nassau recently earned a Safe Quality Care award from Consumer Reports magazine. To celebrate, the hospital’s leadership team delivered lunch to employees on May 30. Baptist Nassau scored a 60, which was the highest rating in northeast Florida.

The rating is based on a number of factors, including infection rates.
