Bannockburn School Update The completion of the 2022-2023 academic year marks the one-year anniversary of our establishment of Bannockburn School at our new location, 3080 Bayview Avenue, and I am filled with gratitude for the remarkable time we’ve enjoyed here, thus far. In September, all of our students were welcomed to bright, spacious classrooms and numerous other beautiful, dedicated spaces for library time and specialist classes. The resuming of exceptional education for our students, rooted in the Montessori philosophy, has been seamless and that is owed to our devoted staff, whose dedication and passion for education have been the driving force behind the success of our school. Thank you all for your hard work, creativity and loyalty. Working together with our amazing staff towards our goals, we have an exceptional group of parent and community volunteers whose active involvement have been instrumental in shaping our outstanding school. To the members of the Bannockburn Parents Association, thank you for your efforts in raising funds to enrich our school environment, as well as bringing our school community together. To our committee volunteers, we thank you for lending your time and expertise to support the school. To the Board of Directors, thank you for the commitment you have made to provide guidance and oversight to the school. I also want to thank Raewyn Seaberg for her time, dedication and commitment as our Chair of the Board of Directors of Bannockburn School for the last three years. Your commitment of time and support of the school over the year is greatly appreciated. I extend my heartfelt thanks again to the entire Bannockburn Community for your invaluable feedback, contributions and support and invite you to continue to contribute your time and ideas to the school. Your commitment to our shared vision is what makes Bannockburn School a truly special place. Warm Regards, Lisa Russell, Incoming Chair of the Board of Directors

Board of Directors The members of the Bannockburn Board of Directors volunteer their time, energy, and counsel to take on the job of overseeing the Governance of our school. They work hard to make the best decisions for the children at Bannockburn. By serving in this important governance role, Board members also lay the foundation of the future. The members who make the time to generously provide this important service do so because they care. They care about Bannockburn being the best it can be. They care about the next generation and the future of the community. Thank you for donating your time, sharing your expertise and knowledge and providing an ongoing commitment to move the school forward for the future.

Finance Update The Finance Committee is made up of financial specialists and is dedicated to ensuring that Bannockburn’s financial resources are used productively and responsibly. As a mission-driven, not-for-profit institution, it is imperative that Bannockburn budgets carefully to ensure financial stability. We are meeting these goals through close collaboration between the school’s leadership team, the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors. Through frequent assessments of the school’s financial statements and regular meetings with the administrators, the Finance Committee makes recommendations to the Board on expenditures that will benefit the school now, and in the future. For the 2022-2023 fiscal year, Bannockburn’s financial position remains solid. With continued growing enrolment over the course of the year at the school’s new home on Bayview Avenue, revenue was strong, although the expenses also increased as the new school was fully renovated into a bright, beautiful learning environment for all students and staff to enjoy. While the tuition fees cover the operating budget of the school, it is support of the Bannockburn Parent Association (BPA) fundraisers and donations to Bannockburn Foundation’s Annual Giving Fund that enhance the school in a variety of ways including; additional programming, student financial assistance and capital improvements. I would like to thank the parents and friends of the Bannockburn community for their generous support of these initiatives over the years. Finally, I would like to thank the members of the Finance Committee; Peter Ferrante, Derek Russell and Manish Nayar, for their generous contributions of time and expertise. Co-Chairs of the Bannockburn Parent’s Association

The goal of Bannockburn’s Parent’s Association (BPA) is to foster a strong school community while also raising funds to supplement our children’s educational experience here at the school. We strive to ensure that all parents and their children feel welcome here and encourage parents to engage with and participate in our initiatives in order to achieve that goal. The 2022-23 school year was our first year at the Bayview location and we were excited to open this new chapter with all the families at Bannockburn. We knew that it would be important to help our families adjust to the new location and we wanted to make it feel like home right away. We started the year with regular BPA meetings and a guest speaker who shared helpful information with parents about anxiety their children might be feeling while returning to in-person classroom settings after the pandemic. We held our traditional back to school Ice Cream social which gave our families a chance to mingle and meet new friends. This was followed by the Annual Fall Sale where we sold out of pies and flowers while fostering some solid community spirit. Our Annual Holiday Sale was a wonderful event where we had a craft table, hot chocolate and cookies set up to compliment various items sold at the sale. This event was a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season at Bannockburn. In the spring, parents were able to come together again to cook and deliver waffles to the classrooms for the much beloved Valentine’s Waffle Party and host another successful Spring Sale. The BPA, along with the school, organized a special 30th Anniversary Fun Fair with inflatables, pony rides, train rides, games, magician, face painting, balloonists, music, raffles, food trucks and so much more. We finished the evening with a movie and popcorn in the gymnasium where current and past Bannockburn students and parents mingled to mark Bannockburn’s 30th Anniversary and our first fun fair at 3080 Bayview Avenue. Through these fundraising initiatives, the BPA was able to host the Family skate at the Cricket Club, the maintenance of the aquarium in the main floor hallway as well as purchasing items for class wish lists for outdoor play. The BPA truly appreciates the support of all the parents who volunteered at fundraisers and events, served as class representatives, and who gave input into BPA activities. We also owe a tremendous thanks to Jaci Richman and all of the the teachers and staff who help support our efforts. We have enjoyed our first year as BPA co-chairs and look forward to the new opportunities to continue to serve the Bannockburn community. Christine Bernardini and Tracy Morgan

The Bannockburn Foundation

The Bannockburn Foundation is a federally incorporated, charitable organization, created to support the furtherment of Montessori education at Bannockburn School. The Foundation provides funds for projects, programs, activities, and bursaries which are not funded by Bannockburn School’s normal operating budget. Tuition fees pay for the day-to-day operations of the School. Foundation funds are used to support facility upgrades, program enhancements, special activities, and bursaries. Over the years the Foundation has gifted well over $500,000 towards these projects. All classrooms within the School have benefitted from Foundation funds and all programs have been enhanced by Foundation. Donations allow the School to invest in itself and its future for the advancement of the education of Bannockburn children.
