BIO-Genics, LLC Suggestions for Success
Each straw of semen marketed by BIO-Genics, LLC has been carefully processed in our own laboratory. Our laboratory procedures ensure the highest quality and product control. Each sample taken has been carefully analyzed and rated for its viability. Strict minimum standards must be met before any product is released to a customer. All semen made available to you in this catalog has been 100% maintained by BIO-Genics, LLC to insure its quality when it is added to your private inventory. Because of these safeguards, you can be sure that each straw of semen purchased is of the best quality.
The handling of your semen inventory plays a critical role in its ability to impregnate your AI candidate. Most importantly, you want to be sure that you handle it properly each and every time you open the lid of your nitrogen tank. When searching for a desired cane in your tank, the full cane should be kept well below the frost line in its neck. Search for the treasure with a flashlight, not with natural light. The desired straw of semen should be removed from its goblet and the cane lowered to well below the frost line in under three seconds. This strict time constraint is necessary to be confident that the viability of the other straws on the cane have not been compromised. Once removed from the goblet, the straw should be shaken slightly to remove any liquid nitrogen that might be clinging to its interior or exterior surfaces. It is also advised to hold the straw in your hand for a few seconds before introducing it to the thaw unit. (If this is not done, you risk the straw exploding when it is submerged in the warm water.) You can then transfer the selected straw to a 95˚F/35˚C thaw unit. Do this quickly in order to protect your semen’s viability. It should remain in the thaw unit for at least 40 seconds before being removed for use. Do not allow your water bath to draw below 92˚F’/33˚C or go above 98˚F/37˚C. If you let your water bath get too cool, you are compromising sperm recovery. If you let it get too hot, you may “cook” the semen, also reducing the number of live cells available for work per insemination.
After properly thawing the semen, you have a maximum of 15 minutes to deposit the semen in your does reproductive tract for an optimal conception rate. The longer the semen remains in the straw, the greater the loss of viability.

Vaginal Swabs
Non-Spermicidal Lubricant
This sterile, non-spermicidal jelly is water-soluble, stable, non-greasy and spreads evenly. It is ideal for lubricating vaginal specula, rubber products (such as syringes), rectal thermometers, etc. and can be used during obstetric procedures such as lubrication for kid delivery. This product minimizes irritation to the sensitive area of the vulva and the delicate mucous membranes of the cervical canal, while maintaining the viscosity necessary to adhere to the vaginal speculum.
Sterile Lubricant
A sterile, greaseless, unscented, and water soluble lubricating jelly with a stable consistency, ideal for use with vaginal specula. This product has been trusted by veterinarians for decades and has been proven to consistently maintain high percentages of both total and progressive mobility in timed semen viability studies. You will find this lubricant to not only be well suited for AI, but for ultrasound and kidding procedures as well.
Sanitary Sheath Protectors
This clear plastic oversheath can be used with any model AI gun. When the gun is in position at the “os”, simply pull back on the finger slot in the oversheath and it will tear away from the gun as it enters the cervix. It’s protective cover maintains a clean instrument thereby reducing the chance of contamination of the uterus and improving embryo viability. Especially handy for those “old school” AI technicians who do not use a thaw unit.
BIO-Light
The BIO-Light was created for optimum light refraction when used with the BIO-Speculum. The new Rencomade light has a bright, white LED bulb and an improved, easy to use switch. Powered by AA batteries (included), which are easy to access and replace. The BIO-Optic Retainer (included with the BIO-Speculum) holds the light firmly in place.
Soft, 16” swabs clear excess vaginal fluid and mucus from your view. Improve your conception success rate by increasing your ability to visualize and locate the “os” for proper semen deposit.
Speculum Brush
The diameter graduation and insertion rod make this the most comfortable and easily inserted speculum available today. Because of its conical shape, this speculum will accommodate a variety of vaginal sizes. It is inexpensive enough to be used as a disposable unit, but with proper cleaning can be used many times over.
French Specula
Use what the innovators of caprine AI use, the medium-sized, duck billshaped, vaginal specula. Provides easy insertion, comfortable vaginal expansion within the doe and one-handed operation when used with a head lamp.

BIO-GENICS, LLC TIP FOR FECAL ANALYSIS SUCCESS
It is the grid on a McMaster slide that produces accurate and consistent results. Our McMaster slides and Fecal Float Solutions are manufactured to exact standard to help assure correct Egg Per Gram analysis. To produce the most accurate results, try to avoid using home mixed sugar and salt solutions.
Fecal Kits
As parasites continue to develop stronger resistance to available methods of treatment, the producer must work harder to identify who is needing treatment and to what degree. These easy to use, diagnostic kits provide the tools necessary to both identify and assess your herd’s parasite load and type of infection. Each kit’s performance is greatly enhanced when used in conjunction with professionally manufactured float solutions such as Zinc Sulfate (F-905) or Sodium Nitrate (F-904). U-Mix Fecal Float Solution
For the most accurate results when performing fecal analysis procedures specific gravity values are necessary. This is especially true when using the McMaster Egg Counting Technique. Homemade salt and sugar solutions are not recommended by the manufacturer. The zinc sulfate base in this U-Mix product has a specific gravity of 1.18 for the most accurate of analysis. Just add distilled water (available at any grocery store) to the pre-measured one gallon container and shake vigorously. The product will dissolve into an accurate, saturated fecal float solution. A real money saver for those who want to avoid the expensive cost of shipping the water! F-905 Zinc Sulfate/gal
Fecal Analyzer Devices
Economical and disposable units for the large herd producer. Although sugar or salt based home recipe solutions can be used, all analysis produces the most accurate results when professionally manufactured sodium nitrate or zinc based fecal float solutions such as the F-904, F-903 or F-905 products are used. Mazzaratti is a super consistent buck. His offspring show improved dairy strength, length of body, levelness of topline and width of rump when compared to their dams. The mammary systems are high and wide in the rear, long and smooth in the fore udder with near ideal teat size, shape and placement. All of his daughters have been show quality. Not a bad one in the bunch. It’s always so exciting when a buck is as consistent in what he throws as Mazzaratti has been in our herd.

We couldn’t be more pleased with our Argento daughters. His kids show improvement in dairy strength, strength of pasterns, and front end assemblies. His first milking daughters have very capacious well attached udders, and are very heavy milkers. We are also seeing improved components over their dams. Before coming to live with us, he produced several daughters in the Kara-Kahl herd that placed in the Top 10 at the 2017 ADGA National Show.

We are excited to have had the opportunity to add Straight Up to our breeding program. He combines all the style, milk and strength we had been looking for. He is a beautiful broken Sundgua and throws lots of splashy kids. He is long, tall and very uphill. His first two milking daughters have exceptional mammary systems and we are looking forward to seeing them mature. His kids standout for their exceptional dairy strength and general appearance.

His daughters are 24µ and 25µ, with a Comfort Factor of 81% on third fleece. One of his sons won Grand Champion Colored Angora buck at Oregon Flock & Fiber Fest show this last September. He produces color on both color pools, improves lock length, softness and consistency in his get. He has been sold; I will not be collecting more. Bonaparte is a large, well made young buck. Born black, he is fading to a silver gray that will eventually be a stunning metallic silver as he ages. His kids come in all colors and some badger patterns. They have fine, curly fleeces, testing in the low 20u with a high comfort factor percentage and a long staple length. He has improved overall fleece quality in well made kids. Due to the pandemic Bonaparte has not been shown yet. Pictured, as well as him, is his only daughter so far, Gnocchi, a black and tan badger, fading slowly.

‘Swinger’ is an own son of the famous Tarzan T66 *Ennobled*, we are offering a rare opportunity to “kick it old school” with some first generation South African genetics! This super growthy kid has black hide and hooves, a South African head and horn set, a 1x1 teat structure, good bite and is growing out to be a huge buck.
‘Swingers’ dam, JC Boer Goats 1156, is ultra-correct and very stylish, a granddaughter of MCR Prodigy *Ennobled*, she is a diamond in our breeding program. She has a correct bite, full pigment and 1x1 with 2 well spaced non-functional teat structure. She kidded unassisted and easily raised twin bucks this year.
If you are looking for mothering ability, ease of kidding and overall heartiness that the South African Boer Goats were originally bred for, we encourage you to look at introducing these bloodlines into your program. At Dixie Creek our goal is helping you create your Boer goat story by offering quality animals, advice from our own experiences, and an ongoing relationship. Diplomat is the combination of generations of linear appraised Excellent does, with ADGA National Champions on both sides of his pedigree. The longevity in these doe lines is superb, with productive does that hold together, lasting to 12 and 13 years of age.
The granddam, GCH Rockspring Dem Diana Daffodil 3*M 5-03 91 (VVEE), appraised EX 90 at 9 years of age! His dam, GCH Rockspring Vin Daffy Dandelion 4*M 5-03 92 (EEEE), is the 1998 ADGA National GCH, 2003 Rsv National GCH and winner of the High Lifetime Milk and Butterfat awards at the 2004 ADGA National Show. His sire is the son of the 2000 ADGA Rsv National GCH, GCH Rockspring DB Debra Dutchess 3*M 5-03 91 (VEEE).
Diplomat himself is extremely stylish with very correct feet and legs, being especially straight in the foreleg and well angulated in the rear. He is level over the topline and well springs in the rib with a well open escutcheon area. Based on his structural correctness and remarkable pedigree we should see his progeny continuing the Rockspring National Show winning legacy. - Ann Weikel

Majesty is one of those very rare bucks that is not only the son of a National Champion, but a Champion in his own right who is proven to produce Champions. In addition, he is well within height for breed and has sparkling blue eyes. Majesty has the longevity we look for and appraised EEE90 @9 03 and was successfully settling does until the end. We are just beginning to enjoy the fruits of his labor in his final herd, with stunning first and second freshening daughters. To date they have achieved E in mammary as FF, won multiple 1st place yearling milker, and Top 10 Dam & Daughter at 2023 Nationals.
Majesty’s dam needs no introduction, SGCH Wyojem Wendy Kiki 1*M EEEE91, is the 2013 ADGA National Champion and Reserve Best Udder at the 2012 ADGA National Show. In 2014 Wendy was Top 10 in milk, butterfat and protein. Other notable Majesty offspring are CH Snowball’s Klondike VEVE90 @4 03 and CH Haycreeks Majesty Joli.

Alejandro was a buck who has recently been exported to Australia. Therefore, this is the last of the semen that will be offered for sale out of him.
His pedigree is packed full of fantastic animals, starting with his dam, SG Sugar Moon RB Gianna 2*M, daughter of SG NC Promisedland Ram-Beau.
Gianna was appraised as a first freshener with a final score of VVEE 89, the highest overall score a FF can receive. She was on the 2017 Breed Leaders (Top ten) list for milk production and protein, and the 2018 list for all 3 categories. Alejandro’s sire, SG
Old Mountain Farm Nightshade, combines some wonderful Old Mountain Farm genetics. Nightshade’s sire is SG Old Mountain Farm Cernunnos, full brother to 2017 National Premier sire, Old Mountain Farm Keidan Quinn, producing many lovely offspring like his brother. Nightshade’s dam, CH Old Mountain Farm BrownI’dSuzn appraised with a VEEE 90 as a 7 year old, and finished her championship as a 10 year old!
There are many more wonderful generations behind Alejandro, but what’s even better is he can produce amazing offspring that excel in the show ring and milk pail as well! One of his daughters, SG Springwater AL Apricot Nectar, was 2nd place in her class at Nationals as a 2 year old, with 1st place mammary system. She has milked more than 5000 lbs already as of the end of her 5th lactation, which high components. Another daughter GCH (pending) Springwater AL Hellooo Nurse appraised last year with a final score of VEVE 91 and finished her championship with a Best In Show win. Yet another of his daughters, Springwater AL Jade Necklace, was on the 2020 Top Ten list for protein production. His daughters not only accel here, but have done fantastic in other herds as well. One of them, SG Springwater AL Oky Doky lives in western Oregon and was GCH at both the Oregon and Washington State Fairs last year, and she has 3 lactations of over 1000 lbs so far, one of which was more than 1400 lbs of milk. She also appraised with a final score of VEEE 90 as a 4 year old If you want does that consistently put milk in the pail without losing components, at the same time as competing well in the showring, this is your boy!

Caruso is the result of an AI breeding (with the hope of getting a buck) from the phenomenal cross of ++*B SG Old Mountain Farm Cernunnos x SGCH Camanna GD Moonlight Opera 3*M 07-03 VEEE 91. Cernunnos needs little introduction, having been on the elite sire list for multiple years, and his daughters have done big things, including 2018 ADGA National Nigerian Dwarf Best Udder (SGCH Old Mountain Farm Sunday Drive 3*M). Caruso’s dam, Opera, derives from an exceptionally consistent dam line - SGCH Camanna CS Moonlight Sonata 2*M 08-02 EEEE 91 - that is well-known in the Northwest. Caruso’s three older full sisters have been very accomplished in the show ring, linear appraisal, and milk test. Caruso is our herd’s first contribution to ADGA’s Young Sire Development Program. Caruso’s kids thus far all have consistently impressive general appearance and structural correctness, and we expect his daughters to have impressive and productive mammaries as well.

Old Mountain Farm Justin Quinn’s breeder, Cheryle Moore-Smith, speaks of Justin’s dam Raimy: “This is another doe that will no doubt prove to be one of the cornerstones of our herd moving into the future. I would easily take a herd full of does like Raimy.” We have long admired Justin’s sire’s full sister, Old Mountain Farm Quinoa VEEE 90. Her lovely top line, length of body, strength of chine, and exceptionally high rear udder height are truly awesome. Both sides of the pedigree are notable for exceptional bone pattern with correct legs and feet. We are looking forward to seeing Justin’s kids!

type. I can’t think of another Nubian buck who has as many Junior Champion daughters throughout the country and in so many herds. He consistently levels toplines, corrects feet, depth of heel, adds length of body and doesn’t hurt in the milk department either. His dam, GCH Regehrs #1 Sparkle Plenty 4*M 4-01 89 (VVEV), who was quite lovely and undefeated as a four year-old was 1st place in her Four Year-Old age class at the 1994 ADGA Nationals and then died that same year. She gave her son her great strength in both her strong topline and length.
Beau has a show history that is pretty amazing. He was the 1995 Yearling All-American and 2000 Reserve All-American Five and Over buck. He finished his Championship as a yearling, and after that was only shown in a few Champion Challenge classes where he was 2xBOB, 2x1st and 1x2nd. At his last show he was Best Buck-In-Show over 93 other bucks. Beau’s progeny has done incredibly well at both local shows and on the national level. Beau first became seriously recognized as a buck of notice when his daughter Manges Colony Grace 4-02 88 (VVEV), was named the ADGA National Junior Champion in 1995. Grace went on to be the 4th place Milking Yearling at the 1996 ADGA Nationals, and as an adult to Linear Appraise 4-02 88 (VVEV). Also at the 1996 ADGA National Show the 1st place Junior Get-Of-Sire was Beau’s. At the 1999 National Show, he sired the 5th place Two Year-Old with 2nd Best Udder, the 12th place Intermediate Kid and the 13th place Senior Yearling. Beau’s spotlight became even brighter and wider in 2002. Being Hill’s Acres herd sire gave him the extra numbers he needed to really show his proof and abilities on a wide variety of gene pools. At the 2002 ADGA National Show, Beau sired the 1st place Four Year-Old Milker with 1st place Udder, GCH Hill’s Acres Beauquet 1*M, the 2nd place Four Year-Old Milker with 3rd place Udder, GCH Hill’s Acres A Beaudacious Gal 1*M 4-03 90 (VVVE), the 19th place Three Year-Old, the 1st place Senior Get-Of-Sire and was named the 2002 ADGA National Show Nubian Premier Sire! Your expectations of Beau can be fairly reliable.

Also in 1999 she was Best-Of-Breed, Best Udder-Of-Breed and Best Doe-In-Show making it the third year in a row that she has been Best Doe-In-Show at the Tri-State Fair in Amarillo, TX. In 1998 she was 5xBest-Of-Breed and 2xBest Doe-InShow, while in 1997 she was Grand Champion, Best Doe-In-Show and Best Udder-In-Show. In 2003, at age nine, she was still awarded the title of Best-Of-Breed - a grand old girl with a lifetime DHIR of 1449 15,160 679 590! Her daughters bear her resemblance exhibiting her strength and structural correctness, general appearance, exceptional dairy character and overall body length.
Black Tie is a growthy, tall and upstanding buck who is sharp and angular. Despite his long bone pattern he has a short pastern with good feet and a correct rear leg set. At his first show he placed 1st in all three rings with nine in his class. He went on to win Grand Champion earning his first leg as a yearling against 15 other senior Nubian bucks!
One of his daughters, GCH Riven Oak Mazie’s Rebo 3*M 7-03 91 (VEEE), was 4th place with 3rd Udder Four Year-Old at the 2010 ADGA National Show. Other daughters include: GCH Riven Oak Mazi’s Rapadou 3*M 4-03 90 (VEEE); and SGCH Hill’s Acres Charming Effects 3*M 1-03 Ec (EEE) was Junior Champion, earning her dry leg at her first show in 2002 and then went on to place fifth at the 2002 ADGA National Show in her large Senior Yearling class, as well as 5th place Five & Six Year-Old at the 2006 ADGA National Show. All of his kids exhibit improved dairy character, with flat yet strong bone and excellent width between the ribs. He has improved breed character in both head and ear on all of his kids to date. His daughters are freshening with show quality udders that are well attached and capacious. - Teresa Wade

DKGH Rock It Scientist (we call him Si) is long, tall, level, wide rumped and very correct. He comes from a line of outstanding mammaries. He is a son of the very popular SGCH DKGH Playboy’s Rock It EX91 EEE and closely resembles him in general appearance. Si’s dam is SGCH DKGH Cid’s Emmy Eva EX92 EEEE. Eva excels in general appearance with her impressive front end assembly, strong back, wide rump and correct feet and legs. She was an incredibly deep bodied doe with a strongly attached and productive mammary. Eva left a tremendous legacy in our herd through Si and many wonderful daughters.
Si is a repeat of the mating that created our beautiful SGCH DKGH Rockin’ Eve EX92 EEEE @ 3-04 and 2019 ADGA National show 2nd place/1st udder 4yr old, 2017 2nd place 2yr old and 2018 INBA All American 3yr old. This breeding has been so consistent, with other full sisters including SGCH DKGH Rock It Ellie EX90 VVEE 2yr, and our 2015 Colorama Sale doeling DKGH Rock It Eliza. Si qualified for the ADGA Young Sire Development program, and we are very pleased with his early daughters. His first daughters already show an improvement in width and levelness of rump with wide escutcheons, increased length with excellent dairy strength, as well as Si’s beautiful breed character. His fresh daughters have well attached mammaries and are milking well.
Si earned his permanent championship this year as a 2yr old going 3x GCH in his only show and 2x Best Buck in Show. Based on the mammaries of his dam and full sisters, as well as a few young daughters, we expect Si to sire plenty of height and width of rear udder with strong attachments and the fantastic udder texture that these does have. - Dan Greene – Greenehaven Farms

doe. Being both a beautiful show doe herself, having appraised over 90 three times, and as a brood doe throwing her correct general appearance and tight mammary attachment while taking any benefit the buck brings to the table. The sire, SG Urban Acres Charmng Troubadour is likewise a consistent producer of excellent does, with at least 3 Grand Champion (more pending ADGA NG updates) and 7 superior genetics daughters. Lincoln has proven to carry potent genetics for area of udder attachment, with improved teat placement, strength of topline, correct general appearance and longevity.

Everest profiles like his dam Eve: uphill, incredibly strong topline with wide level rump, and stands on very correct feet and legs. If he transmits those traits along with Eve’s mammary, he will certainly be a special buck.
Everest and his twin brother Event share the current #1 ETA ranking for the Nubian breed (unproven young sires).

Savannahs are premier meat goats; they produce delicious, mild-tasting meat and lots of it. They are similar to their Boer cousins in all but coloring, Savannahs are hardier, making them ideal for low maintenance operations and for crossing with Boers or other meat and dairy breeds to increase hardiness and meatiness in their offspring. Savannah bucks are aggressive breeders and the does, peerless mothers; Savannah does are protective, fertile, kid with ease, with two to four kids common per litter.
Cooper is strong, solid, and hardy with Keri Rose genetics. He throws kids that gain quickly with low input and maintenance. He would make a great addition to any herd looking to improve the meat production and mothering qualities of their does.

Friday was tall, extremely dairy and long bodied buck with a tremendous head. He was a slow maturing buck, but when he hit four, he really came into himself. He has been many times the Champion of the day, and is an 8xBest-In-Show winner. In 2004 alone, the two times he was shown, he was Best-Of-Breed both times.
Friday’s sire, *B Dairy Delight Charlie William, has done more to advance the Continental herd of any buck they have had. He has sired Continental Chosen One (EX90), the 1997 National Reserve Best Udder Freedom (EX90) and Karla (VG88) who was 1st place as a Two and Three Year-Old at the 1997 and 1998 ADGA National Shows. His Jr Get in 1998 was 1st and his Sr Get-Of-Sire in 1997 was the 2nd at the Nationals. His kids are sharp and dairy with smooth blending; they are open and flat-boned; udders are high and wide with a lot of lateral support.
Friday’s dam, GCH Tanswy Hill Advantage Flair 3*M 7-05 90 (VEEV), was 1st place Two Year-Old with 1st place Udder at the 1993 National Show. Ringleader was an anxiously awaited addition. We were looking for good buck that would increase production and components. What we got was a “Great” buck. He not only increases components and daily production. His daughters milk a nice flat lactation curve and handle extended lactations with ease. He consistently improves length of bone, and correctness of feet and legs. His daughters have beautiful long necks, long uphill toplines, and capacious well attached mammary systems. We can hardly wait to get some of these girls into the showring. Until then they will continue to be hard working girls that are a joy to look at every day in the parlor. If you love making cheese and showing beautiful productive does Ringleader is the buck to use. All Pictures courtesy of Legendairy Toggenburgs www.karakarlfarm.com

The breeding program of Goat Improvement Company delivers genetics that are ready for the future!
We achieve this through our five focus areas:
Balanced breeding
Within the breeding program the emphasis is on genetic progress based on a “Balanced Breeding” strategy. We select on the following characteristics: health and longevity, exterior, milk quality, milk production and percentages. All properties are factored into the GIC index. We have deliberately chosen to focus on these characteristics because a balanced progress in precisely these characteristics results in high-quality dairy for the consumer, less environmental impact per kilogram of milk, more animal welfare and a higher operating result for the goat farmer.
Nucleus breeders worldwide
Our top breeders form the core of the breeding program. On their farms, we test the technical breeding performance of bucks/goats under local conditions, select AI bucks and produce high-quality breeding material. Within the nucleus program there is great variation in companies and day-to-day management and the program includes top breeders from no fewer than three continents (Europe, North America and Africa). This allows genetics to be widely tested.
Collaboration with scientist
We analyze the data from the nucleus farms in collaboration with universities. In addition, we are constantly looking together for new innovations with which we can select for even more characteristics and accelerate genetic progress.
Systematic data collection
The breeding program is based on data from more than 25,000 goats that we collect daily on the farms of our top breeders. Due to the variation in the farms and the climatic differences between the different countries where the farms are located, we can test the genetics widely. In addition, this gives us the opportunity to adjust the GIC index to the country; we are therefore the first breeding organization that can adjust the weighting of traits to the country.
Climate
Two important drivers behind the reduction of methane emissions per kg of milk are increasing milk production and reducing young stock. We realize increasing production with our genetics; healthier animals that produce a lot of milk over a long life. Reducing the young stock is only possible with a sustainable herd, but long-term milking also plays an important role in this. The long-term milking of the goats avoids the dry period, reduces the risk of disease and therefore discharge, and fewer kids are born (smaller young stock).

BC - Body Capacity
Buck Type Evaluation - Evaluated individual type traits, by way of the linear appraisal system, that affect structural and functional durability. This evaluation enables a breeder to take full advantage of the potential for genetic improvement through selection.
Buck Yield Evaluation - Evaluated individual production traits using information from DHI milk testing as they are reported on herds with daughters of that buck.
DC - Dairy Character
DOB - Buck’s Date of birth
E - Excellent, at least 90% of the ideal.
ETA - Estimated Transmitting Ability, an average of the PTI’s of the sire and dam which are used as predictors of the genetic potential of the resulting offspring. ETS’s are weighted to favor production in the ratio of 2:1, and type in the ratio of 1:2.
F - Fair, 60% to 69% of the ideal
FS - Final Score
GA - General Appearance
HES - Herd Evaluation Service score
Index # - Buck’s cane and straw code, to be used when placing an order

P - Poor, less than 60% of the ideal
PTA/Predicted Trans Ability - Predicted Transmitting Ability, the genetic evaluation for a specific trait using information from DHI milk testing and/or ADGA Linear Appraisal programs for each production/type trait based on progeny data. PTS’s are generated for each of the available components for DHI being milk production, butterfat, and protein. The type components from Linear Appraisal are each of the thirteen linear traits and the final score. PTSs compare the genetic value of animals to each other within their gender and breed.
PTI/Production Type Index - The genetic evaluation for production and type combined, as compared to animals of the same gender and breed. Values are derived from the PTA for Linear Appraisal final scores and energy corrected milk which is generated from the PTAs for butterfat, protein, and milk production. PTIs are weighted to favor production in the ratio of 2:1, and type in the ratio of 1:2.
REG # - Buck’s registration number
% Reliability - The accuracy of the PTA genetic evaluation expressed as a percentage. The more female offspring evaluated per buck, and the more herds in which they reside, the higher the reliability. The higher the reliability percentage, the more accurate the proof, and the less susceptible it is to large changes when new information is added.
Straw - Price for a broken unit/single straw (includes a $5.00 handling charge)
Unit - Total price for a unit of five straws
V - Very good, 85% to 89% of the ideal

ADGA LINEAR TRAITS “IDEAL POINT RANGES”
In an effort to respond to the questions of ADGA members and dairy goat breeders regarding correct or “ideal” type, the American Dairy Goat Association Type Committee has adopted the following correct type, for the linear traits. The Committee suggests that members needing information regarding correct type use these ranges along with the drawings in ADGA’s Linear Appraisal System Booklet as a resource in evaluating type. Animals fitting within the range of numbers listed for each of individual traits will be considered to be approaching ideal, or are extremely correct in that trait.

How to Interpret the Data
Bio-Genics, LLC is proud to provide our customers with this year’s Sire Directory. You will find this directory to be a wealth of information. We not only feature some of the industry’s most proven sires, but also a wide selection of new bucks to be considered for your breeding program. In many cases bucks appearing in this catalog are Special Sale Bucks, Show Champions, sons of Performance and Production Leaders, sons of National Breed Champions as well as being industry leaders in both production and type traits.
BIO-Genics, LLC is doing their part to help establish and promote those sires who have evidenced genetic superiority and potential by making these bucks available to you. Buck Yield Evaluations and Buck Type Evaluations are included on all bucks when available. This may be a new tool to many of you in the selection of bucks to use. Below is a brief outline of each evaluation and how it can be best used. This enables you to make sound decisions based on statistical data for the genetic improvement of your herd. When using these evaluations it is important to remember that they can only be compared within the breeds, and not between the breeds.
The Sire Summaries compare each buck to a genetic base within a breed. The genetic base is set at zero, which means that approximately half of the bucks were above the genetic base and half were below it at the time it was set. For every production and type trait that is evaluated there is a PTA. Be aware that changes in the PTA values of sires will occur, and may be dramatic, as new daughter information becomes available. If the buck has high PTAs in particular traits, then it means that he is probably genetically superior in those traits. A PTA of zero (at the average for his breed) can be expected to improve that trait in half of his offspring. You should decide whether or not to use a buck based on his PTA. You should decide how heavily to use him based on his Reliability. So, now that we have provided you with all this nifty data, what does it mean?
To help you visualize a sire’s effect on each individual trait, we have included this chart that shows the range of each. Photocopy this chart and use it to mark the sire’s PTAs on the traits that interest you. Once the data is translated through this visual tool, it will be very easy for you to establish the sire’s strengths and weaknesses. This will in turn enable you to make corrective breeding decisions based on the evaluations themselves. We make every effort to help support the Sire Development Programs, and others like it, that make these evaluations available for your use. These programs identify potential genetically superior bucks. Part of our support is accomplished by including in the catalog, young and yet unproven bucks who do not yet have statistical data available on them. Artificial insemination is clearly one of the best tools available to these programs to help progeny-test these young sires. We take great satisfaction in providing you with a quality product from a variety of gene pools. We at BIO-Genics, LLC feel that we should not be the decision maker on what bucks should be available for your use. For this reason, any buck can be listed in our catalog by a consignor. Full details on how to market your buck through BIO-Genics, LLC can be found on the last page of this catalog.
