The Salvation Army Christmas Cheer Application for assistance towards Christmas Day celebrations in your household. This may include Food, Children’s gifts and Christmas Day treats. All Christmas Cheer is provided through the generosity of our volunteers, allocated funding, donations from our local community, St Faith Anglican Church, and Avon Valley Salvation Army. The past 2 months at the centre, we have been focussing our program on fine motor skills and hand eye co-ordination. We have been doing some fun learning activities such as an egg and spoon walk (which also coincided with World Egg Day!), hammering a golf tee into cardboard and making yummy fruit kebabs which we then ate! As always, we have outdoor play where we can climb, balance and run around for physical development. When we are inside, our physical development is mainly dancing! Quairading Aquatic Club are getting ready for another fantastic season. For those thinking about joining, come along to our registration day at the pool and see what we do. Our club is all about giving kids the opportunity to develop their swimming, endurance, and racing skills in a safe and supportive environment. Our committee for the 2023/2024 season is: President: Jaime Garrett Vice President: Amy Wilson Treasurer/Registrar: Meagan Hall Secretary: Bek Van Der Wacht Registration Day will be held on Monday 6th November. We will have a brief whole club meeting at 3.30pm, followed by a light training session for all squads. For interested families, children must be at least age five, have passed stage 3, be confident to swim independently in the big pool and be willing to commit to training the full session each week. If you are unsure of whether your child is at this level, please arrive at 3.30pm on our registration day and we will assess their ability to participate safely and confidently. Registration links will be sent to our current swimmers. These need to be completed prior to the first session. All members will need to create a new profile in Swim Central (this has replaced myswimresults). For those with children who are new or need to be assessed, we would ask that you first attend the registration day and complete the registration after the session to ensure it is suitable for your child as it is difficult to obtain a refund. Meagan will be poolside to assist to complete them on the registration day. • • • •

Mondays are training days. Squad lists and times TBC. Time trials are held on Thursday’s. Race skills training is from 3.20pm-3.40pm followed by the time trial races. 2023/2024 season fees-$95. These need to paid prior to or on registration day (except new members). KIDSPORT available. For duty of care, for both the pool and the club, children 10 & under must have a parent or guardian present to enter the Quairading pool, and they must remain present at the pool to supervise their child for the duration of swimming club training and time trials. It is recommended to organise a season ticket for pool entry at the shire, as pool entry is not included in our membership. Quairading Aquatic Club requires each parent/guardian to volunteer several times throughout the season due to the high volume of people it takes to run the clubs’ activities. This is a nonnegotiable requirement when joining the club. What your child needs-any racing swimwear (our club colours are black/red/white), goggles, sunscreen, water bottle and a cap is preferred.

The junior golf season came to close at the end of Term 3. This year we boasted a total of 26 junior golfers! We met every Tuesday afternoon at the Quairading Golf Club. We were fortunate to secure three sessions of PGA coaching with Mr Rob Farley. Coaching is paramount in teaching our juniors the foundamentals of golf and developing their swing.

We tailored the Ambrose Team Event game to suit abilities and stamina, with Winner: Team 1 Archie Johnston, Walt some playing four ball ambrose and some Green and Chase Pridham playing 6 full holes. Thank you to our Runner Up: Team 2 Matilda Caporn, Ruby fabulous group of parents, grandparents Brokenbrow, Sadie Green, Luke Garrett. and carers who came along to chaperone Well done, we look forward to seeing you the children each week, junior golf could on the green next year! not operate with out you. It was lovely to see our walkers come in from the course wearing bigger smiles than the players! Proving that golf can be enjoyed by all ages, all abilities and non golfers too! A very big thank you to the Quairading Golf Club for their continued strong support of junior golf. The golf course looked spectacular all season.

We recently had our first half of cast and family screening of our feature film High Strangeness at the CRC, we would like to thank everyone who attended and all the positive feedback we recieved about the film. I understand that to some people the completion of the film may have seemed to have taken a long time. However, when you have one person doing all the Post Production work which is usually the job of hundreds of people you might understand why. We have been so fortunate to be mentored by Australian Film Maker Brian Trenchard-Smith, who made the film BMX Bandits with Nicole Kidman, among a lot of other films. With his unwavering guidance and dedication High Strangeness has been shaped into a feature film of great potential and he has taken on the role of Executive Producer along side Philippe Mora. Aaron's talents have been compared to famous directors such as Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer, The Dark Night, Memento) Darren Aronsofsky (The Whale, Black Swan) just to name a few directors. And the film has been quoted as being "If you threw Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Requiem for a Dream, Communion, Men in Black, Replusion and Momento into an Australian blender." We are proud to announce that High Strangeness will have its Premiere in Melbourne in December. We are absolutely honoured by this opportunity and of course are excited. We will also be having a Perth Premiere of the film (date to be advised) You think the tough part is making the film, but in reality Post Production is the hardest. Now as we enter into distribution negotiations, festivals etc. It is exciting but also a mind field of paper work.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has helped us a long the journey. Firstly, our cast who all volunteered their time. Special thanks to Britt Hadlow our lead actress, who worked tirelessly come scorching heat or freezing cold. Plus a thank you to the businesses that helped us with locations - Foodworks, Seedcleaners, CRC, The Northam Shire. A huge thank you to Chris and Vince Hadlow for allowing aliens to land on their property. We will be putting everything from High Strangeness back into the community by starting our new feature film (with proper full crew) and established actors in 2024. In the mean time, we are going to start having screenings at the CRC. Obviously numbers will be limited for each screening due to venue. Although very colourful, it is considered to be more dangerous because its venom is more powerful and its bites are more common at around 10,000 a year. When you sight a redback the red colour of a redback spiders back really POPS against its black body, but if you tangle with a tiny redback during a photoshoot and get bitten, your attraction to the bright red colour will quickly have a negative consequence.
Last month’s subject was AUSTRALIAN WILDLIFE. When travelling overseas people you meet ask you what it is like living in Australia and Quairading. These people always end up talking about our sunny weather & comment on where they live, it’s just cold and miserable. People then say “I’m Outta Here”. When you finally succeeded in capturing a pic of something, the pic might turn out to be pic that just wasn’t a good pic and you still had not got a very good pic of our Aussie Wildlife competition. There were many opportunities to photograph our wildlife right here in Quairading, but you did not have your camera with you. We learnt that we had to have our camera with us everywhere we went for this subject as you never knew when a photo opportunity would arise. At the meeting we had pics entered in the competition that were taken all over Australia, however most of the pics entered in the competition were taken in Quairading. One of the most interesting things I have learnt during 13 years of Photo Club, is to realise just recently that there are lots of colourful birds in Quairading that we had never noticed before. Arun entered a pic of a bird photographed in the Quairading townsite that was bright blue in colour. We also had pics of other birds, with pics of Australia’s largest bird, the flightless Emu. We also had pics taken with a macro lens of tiny spiders. Last months winning pic last month was by Geoff, with a pic of a Crocodile. This evoked a memory that lead onto a discussion of the Quairading Rural Youth and the infamous annual Crocodile Killing Competition, which was held annually 40 years ago. A major part of our meetings is having a discussion that is evoked by someone's pic that is being displayed on the TV. One thing we did learn about whilst doing this subject, was we didn’t all get the pic we set out to achieve. However we can still practise taking pics of Wildlife if we are somewhere and happen to have our camera with us. We also learnt that to get a pic of wildlife is a challenge and if you do get a great pic of our wildlife, then one of the main reasons the pic is said to be a great pic is because of the effort that has been taken to capture a pic of elusive wildlife. Anybody can join the Quairading Photo Club. We meet at the Quairading CRC at 7pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Currently we need to get some more members, so if you have thought about checking out a Photo Club meeting, just roll up. You don’t need a flash camera, a lot of us use our mobile phones to take our winning pics.

Warrior Wellbeing Article Political correctness is a doctrine which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bit of shit by the clean end. In my opinion, political correctness is a major inhibiting factor when interpreting bureaucracy and applying common sense (often the ingredient missing out of lots of decision making) in our daily life. This ultimately can affect our wellbeing. Bureaucracy on its own does have its place, however at times it can limit how we do things because of the many layers of rigid rules that can complicate getting the job done on the ground. This occurs in everyday life whether completing tedious processes, filling out pages of paperwork, or dealing with a system that appears to be more focused on processes rather than helping achieve an outcome.
When a disaster strikes (i.e. catastrophic fires, floods and droughts) or personal health and safety issues arise in our life, layers of bureaucracy are not always helpful, they can exacerbate an already tense environment. We have spoken to many blokes who feel both frustrated and restricted in their reactions to these disasters because of the many layers of procedures that had to be adhered to. Common sense was taking second place! The point about the effects of this political correctness doctrine, is that it enshrines both bureaucracy and common sense and quite often masks/dilutes what should be done and said and can also inhibit robust discussions. Blokes, by our own nature are hard wired to be action orientated i.e. we want to solve problems, and we want to do stuff now. Once this is stifled by political correctness, a few things can start to happen: • normal stress can become distress; • short cuts can be taken (with increased risk); • our natural problem-solving process is inhibited; • blokes shut down and stop seeking help (we go into our cave and don’t come out); • It creates an us versus them mentality. So where have we gone wrong and how can we make changes? • Don’t allow political correctness to mask what should be done and said. Sometimes we must be critical and blunt about our processes to keep them relevant and up to date; • Bureaucracy should facilitate what we do, not dictate how we do it (not create barriers and thus frustrate people who are trying to deal with a challenging situation at the coal face); • The common sense rule should be applied to everything we do. I repeat, apply it to everything we do; • People/communities have the innate ability to band together and deal with stressful situations. This should be fostered thus empowering individuals and communities rather than disempowering through micro-management and removing them from vital decisions regarding their own lives and local community; • Language is always important. Appropriate language that can be understood needs to be used. A robust discussion is vital to air all points of view and to prevent mistakes being repeated. Remember at the end of the day we are responsible for our own wellbeing. Hopefully these suggestions, encourages communities to claim back some responsibility and ownership. This would bring about positive change not only in blokes lives but the whole of the community.

Another parable was about a new Vineyard leased out to local farmers who were hostel to the owner and killed his servants as well as his son . third parable tells about a wedding feast where those who were invited found an excuse not to go, so everybody was then invited. One person got in not wearing the proper dress and he was thrown out. What do we learn from this, ? In following Jesus we must be loyal to His way and show in the way we behave, we live in a world that is hostel to Jesus but He died for us if we would only believe.
