WHO IS MR. LOUD? Mr. Loud is the pseudonym for a senior career educationalist. I met him in August 2009. Born and educated in Sabah, Mr. Loud trained as a maths teacher in Tuaran, and became the Head of a very successful secondary school in KK. He has strong opinions about the value of education. These seven stories might be the best examples of journalism I have achieved. Mr. Loud is Chinese educated, and it was not easy to understand what he had to say, but his views are original, universally relevant to Learning, and sometimes very moving. I love these stories. There are no pictures, his stories are strong enough by themselves. PostedÊinÊSabahSongsÊSeptÊ2009 Ê SabahSongs is sponsored by Mega Boogie Sdn Bhd. Specialists in high-end sound & light equipment

CHEF LEO VELAZQUEZ of Bella Restaurant created an ‘Arabian Nights’ theme dinner, to bring the tastes and sounds of the Mlddle East to you, right here on Gaya Street. SabahSongs found the musicians: ■ FUAD playing accordion ■ ZAI playing gambus ■ YON playing Arabic percussion These guys are originally from Papar, they play together in Indonesia and Brunei as well as locally. Along with traditional music, they also play Latin and Javanese styles, contemporary and jazz, at weddings and other functions. Fuad’s accordion trills evoked the mystique of the Nomadic Life, while the strings of Zai’s gambus weaved rhythmically through Fuad’s chords, which often jabbed on the ‘off’ beat. Chef Leo is hard working, a creative thinker and totally inspiring. He loves living in Sabah, and believes in promoting local talent here. Bella and SabahSongs will look for new ways to create beauty from food and music, here in Sabah. PostedÊinÊSabahSongsÊOctÊ2,Ê2011Ê Ê

Element Tree Music House has launched WEN, a new local Chinese singer who also sings in Malay, and this is her new Malay single, “Kaulah Pujaan Ku“. “Kaulah Pujaan Ku” is a pop ballad, very catchy and not too slow. Element Tree Music House also produced and published the KiDZ’s Hari Raya single “Di Hari Raya” and “Selamat Hari Raya” (Lagu Bajau). It’s the KiDZ letting their talent branch out into music production and songwriting. Alvy Durin wrote the song and lyrics. Matlan plays guitar and did the music arrangement. Other KiDZ Mok on keyboards, Ameng on bass guitar, and Ateq on drums. Silaslin produced the single, with Alvy as co-producer. The album cover reminds me of a schoolgirl’s note book; big printed handwriting, scribbles of hearts and a little stick girl. It made me smile. WEN must be very happy and proud of her work. Well done Element Tree Music House, get this catchy song “Kaulah Pujaan Ku” playing on the local radio stations soon! PostedÊinÊSabahSongsÊNovÊ16,Ê2011Ê Ê
