Dedication x = understanding. To find f(x), square x and multiply by skill and devotion; add Christmastime equations, responsibility, and humor, subtract bubblegum, and divide by impossible tests. Sketch the graph of the curve. Locate its intersection with the line y = education. Draw its tangent at y = 24, and find the roots of the equation in terms of wisdom. We, the class of 1967, dedicate our yearbook to you because we are dedicated to you,

Alice Carr f(x) = k(l-sine)

13 - Abandon all hope ye who enter here. Classes begin with French in the Science Lab, History in S-l, and Art in the manual training room. What will the future bring? Gym in the lan guage lab?

14 —As Mrs. Linden drags out her scales we find we have no time to lose . . . 15 — The doors are up and the heat is on! Too bad there are no doorknobs.

19 - Somehow it’s really underway now, a sense of gloom pervades the atmosphere. 20 —Reva in kimona, Peach in dungies, and Barb Steele and Polly in boots tell of their summer experiences. DoorKnobs! W e’ve got doorKnobs! The seniors press for lunch time coffee . . . 21 - and, wonder of all wonders, get it. Cheers! 22 - Kathy W hite brings in a pigeon. Mr. W hite’s pocket watch alarms English IV. 28 - The freshmen endure initiation — ((chortle chortle)) Score #1 for the macrobrains Kathy Ewing is a National Merit semi-finalist; Difley, Willson, and Nilsson make letters of commenda tion. 29 —Discord, dissonance, and Mr. Lind visit our first Glee Club rehearsal. 30 - The first senior into college! Janet Harrington made the grade.

i

I - We stampede into school in uni form. A certain law-abiding senior forgets . . .

|

4 - Mr. G. shows us slides on Peru. We can see why Mr. Walsh wants him in the History Department. 5 - Aaagh! Our Student Council is honest! Talkers get three chances. 6 - Jackie Rice, go scuttle your fleet.

!

7 —Kathy W hite and Peachy are breed ing tarantulas in the alligator pit in back of the school. For what, we wonder. II - We look like teddybears in our gym sweatsuits. Ruah brings a toothbrush to school, and Cynthia comes back to visit us - the same ol’ Sin. The untouchable Dippers come out, covered with wet paint.

11

12 - W e dust off Chris Columbus’ 474-year-old Great Goof, and use it. 13 - New Madrigals are Morgan, Steele, and Bryant. Now Ann can wear her own cummerbund. 14 - There are some mysterious tele phone calls third period . . . 15 - Jams’ France lost its Riviera. 18 - "The Corner” now has a stereo phonograph . . . next a refrigerator, bar . . . 22 - PSAT’s, and Miss Calhoun promis es a bonfire. Oh, the fun is just beginning. 24 - Mr. W hite is chicken.. 28 - Bibbidy bobbidy boo - zwap. The juniors roll out Cinderella and the Great Pumpkin, and the JP is on. Some seniors get kicked out of Friendly’s for loitering. 31 - New Misfits are Kalian, Ribakoff, Taylor, Higgins, Patterson, Federici, and Martinson. W e’re all witches.

November 1 - Coughdrop season re-opens. 2 - Tia’s pushing the season in gym she gets a basket while playing volley ball. 6 — Mr. Walsh declares that Anne Bagley squeaks. 11 —Willson and Aspen produce their first in a series of psychedelic happen ings "for the cultural betterment of the Upper School.” Armistice Day and we’re still here —buying raffle tickets for our dearly beloved Mr. Lind. 12 - The Blue Moon Fair is a smash hit. 15 - From the eighth grade play The M iracle Worker we learn that it isn’t unusual for a student to have an aver sion for his/her/its teacher . . .

December 1 —Pam Willson is a re-incarnated 13th century monk, and Ruah manages to fit three feet in her mouth. 5 - Just as the gopher signifies the com ing of spring, so too Mr. Gauthier, scarlet scarf trailing in a blast of wind, is harbinger of winter. W e think maybe the simile lies in that same toothy grin . . . 10 - Pom fret Concert - The dismal damsels arrive with a rain storm; con sequently not many of either side are snowed. 12 - Jackie is our B.V.M. The Student Council, in good cheer, decks the halls with bows of red and green crepepaper. 13 - Gertrude and Norman, Adam and Eve of the alligator pit, are formed in the snow.

- Mr. Walsh and Mr. Gauthier, in the true holiday spirit, show in their Christmas vests. Mr. W hite wears his red socks.

Christmas is . . .a time of giving, It is a time of wrapping gifts and making cookies . . . of presents, tucked in secret places . . . and of children wait ing; a time of holly and lights . . . and golden tinsel and green pine boughs. It is a time of magic . . . I ; !' j 1

21 — . . . a time of song and-caroling . . . and silver sleighbells jingling across the snow. J. W. Anglund The seniors inflict their singing on Mr. W alsh’s neighbors. There is a spirit of good will among us.

January 3 - We dust off our minds and try to settle down in preparation for the kill. J

6 - Members of the 4 th period gym class discover that they have donned the wrong skirts. 9 —A hamster and a white rodent join today’s rat race. j 11 - Mr. W alsh’s vest pocket watch harkens back 'T h e Old Days.” 16 - W e have a new senior! Ela Peralta from Peru is Ruah’s sister for two months. 17 - "Like chaff the wind driveth”, an ticipation of midyears, that gnawing terror, driveth us mad. Teachers start explaining Parts I, II, III, etc., to a sea of green faces . . .

18 - and we sink past ElevenO’clock-Droop into the Valley of Fa tigue. 19 - The nasty seniors get their SAT scores, and Peeech hears from Northeastern. 24 - Most of Hades’ ladies show for exams in style - faces match the skirts. Mr. Godin scores 10 points for his oratory skills. 31 - The sleepless seniors sign up for in somnia. W e have no peace of mind.

The best way out is always through. Robert Frost

February 9 - We're snowed! 14 inches and no school. 14 - Noses are red, faces are blue . . . is the Bancroft Administration having a feud with the Massachusetts Electric Company? We commiserate and commemorate a 2nd century martyr. 16 - If you want to get picked up, don’t go to Argentina. Perhaps Nicaragua or Peru? The school goes South American for International Day, and Ela, a bit shakey, takes over a Peruvian discus sion group. 21 - Wendy Whipple gets pinched by the door.

I

22 - W e’re still here. Bye Bye Birdie leads are given to Steele, Ribakoff, Rives, Rose, Gummere, and Kalian. i

24 - Even if our sleep-in is two days late, we love every minute of it. W e’ve angered the Snow Gods, however, and are cursed with a bliz zard. Mr. Gauthier, call off your Gods! Voici les neiges d’antan. 28 —A proclamation heralds the charter members and formation of The Scarf Society. Mr. G. is appointed faculty advisor. The juniors take NMSQT’s and we’re glad it’s a short month.

i

March A tree is like an old friend it grows on you. from Miracles 1 - "Curses —spindled again!” Sue Eckelkamp sounds like Rod Steiger. 2 —Ruah and Ela decide that there’s en tirely too little social life around here, and throw a bash-banquet (ha.) for the seniors. 4 - Junior SAT's and the seniors snick er. 7 - "A dillcr, a dollar, a ten o’clock scholar, what makes you come so soon? You used to come at ten o’clock, and now you come at noon.” Nursery Rhyme Jackie Rice and Kathy White are a little late for Latin class.

8 - Spanish II is the scene of a continu ous proliferation of "jo jo jo’”s. Someone with a sense of humoi posts a "Don’t try to escape” sign on the study hall door. W e’re laughing, we’re laughing. 16 - W e not only try to escape, we do, and evacuate Bancroft for two week’s liberty. Hurrah! Freedom is . . . "The right to act without interfer ence within the limits of the law.” J. Oerter "the right to kick about the lack of it.” W ill Rogers

April 1 - Fools! Nyeah nyeah. 8 - A Pomfret concert there . . . 15 - and here . . . 23 - and at Hartford Festival. "Try to enjoy the great festival of life with other men'’, says Epictetus, but "Beware those who fall at your feet they may be reaching for the edge of the rug." W e may not win any ball games, but we have some interesting discussions. 29 - W e let our hair down (or put it up, as the case may be) and rampage the cafeteria in the traditional Spring Dance manner. Parties are not school functions, it seems.

May 1 - We shed our wrinkled elephant skins and actually look presentable. 6 - Junior Achievements and the sen iors are still laughing sadistically.

12 - Bye Bye Birdie flies. It’s a riot and we all enjoy ourselves. t

18 - W e drag our fathers to the Daddy-Daughter Dance and a free meal, and have great fun and sore feet.

: i (

29 - A craved holiday. Like W W II’s Japanese suicide pilots, we know we are going to die, we have time to think about it, and . . . 2 ^ we attend our own funerals. Hell hath no fire like finals. The faculty laughs last.

I

i

7 - Award Day and

I

9 — Graduation. Shout in glee and triumph! "Purple, yellow, red, and green, the king cannot touch it, nor the queen.” Nursery Rhyme It’s a riddle-rainbow, and they all lived happily ever after - even the seniors. Happy Summer.
