For Phase 1, we were given a site and we were required to create a narrative. The site we were given is Pasar Karat, also known as The Thieve's Market. The narrative I showed is the dark and dangerous side of Pasar Karat. In my narrative, you can see situations such as drug deals and pickpocketing going on within the alleys. The solution I came up with is to create a sort of utopia, a place that could make Pasar Karat livelier and happier.

In phase 2, we were required to build two models based on the idea of our solution for Pasar Karat. Model 1 For my first model, I used a maze to illustrate my utopian site. Mazes are often associated with confusion or disorientation. However, my interpretation of a maze is progression and evolution. The yellow borders within the maze show the right path from entrance to exit. The way this reflects my utopian site is that the right path has already been given, so there is no way of getting lost or confused. The colours black and yellow are used to show the contrast of right and wrong. The black borders show the eerie and dark parts of Pasar Karat, whereas the yellow borders show the happier and livelier Pasar Karat, which is also the utopian site within Pasar Karat.
Model 2 The second model shows the community within Pasar Karat. The two levels depict two different scenarios, the lower one being Pasar Karat itself, and the top level being Pasar Karat as a utopian site. The straws represent the vendors and customers in Pasar Karat. On the bottom level, the straws are further apart and are more flimsy. This is to show that the people in Pasar Karat are not united. Therefore, they do not hold the community together. For the top level, the straws are more compact. This shows that when the people of Pasar Karat are united, they strengthen their community. The circle platforms painted in blue represents unity within the community. In my utopia, a strong community is what holds everything together.
