ILB PATRICK

QUEEN

quoth the raven “The way he sees the game – he’s very smart, he studies a lot of film. He looks at a formation, and he knows exactly what’s coming. You talk about a Luke Kuechly-type of deal – guys that are super vocal, able to lead. He has that fire I haven’t seen from very many people. He has that elite focus. He’s able to do it at such a high level. He’s been a blessing for this team – for this defense – and a catalyst for what we can be.” – TE MARK ANDREWS on defensive leader LB Roquan Smith

After playing three straight road games (2-1 record), including an international contest in London last Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens (4-2) return home Sunday to face the Detroit Lions (5-1) for an interconference battle today at M&T Bank Stadium. Under head coach John Harbaugh, the Ravens are 40-22 vs. NFC teams, including a 24-7 mark in Charm City. With QB Lamar Jackson as its starter, Baltimore is 15-1 against the NFC, including a 7-0 mark at home. The Ravens lead the all-time series vs. Detroit, 5-1, winning four straight contests, including a 19-17 thriller in 2021, when K Justin Tucker made an NFL-record 66-yard FG as time expired to clinch victory at Ford Field. Under Coach Harbaugh, Baltimore is 4-0 against the Lions. Last Sunday at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Baltimore beat the Tennessee Titans, 24-16, in a matchup that featured 6 Tucker FGs (41, 28, 23, 29, 20 & 36 yards), which tied his single-game franchise record. Jackson was 21-of-30 passing for 223 yards, 1 TD (rookie WR Zay Flowers) and 1 INT, adding a team-best 62 rushing yards. Baltimore’s defense was stout, racking up a seasonhigh 6 sacks (including 2 each from OLB Jadeveon Clowney & DT Justin Madubuike) and limiting Tennessee’s offense to 233 total yards and 1-of-9 (11.1%) on third down.

NUMBERS TO NOTE A league-high 11 different Ravens have recorded at least 1 sack as part of Baltimore’s NFL-best 24 sacks (tied, Buf.) through six weeks.

MOST SACKS / 2023 Rk. Team 1. Baltimore Ravens Buffalo Bills 3. Los Angeles Chargers Miami Dolphins 5. Philadelphia Eagles

Sacks 24 24 21 21 20

27 – Consecutive games with a sack by the Ravens, the longest active streak in the NFL. 6 – Total TDs allowed by the

Ravens this season, ranking as the NFL’s fewest. (NO, SF & TB are second w/ 8 TDs permitted.)

22 – Consecutive games the Ravens have rushed for at least 100 yards, marking the NFL’s longest active streak. (San Francisco is second with 12 games.) Through six weeks, Baltimore’s defense ranks No. 2 in yards allowed per game (260.8) and No. 4 in points permitted per contest (15.2). The Ravens’ 6 total TDs allowed stand as the NFL’s fewest. 2023 baltimore ravens gameday | 5

ON WEEK-TO-WEEK NFL COMPETITION: “The margin is very thin in this league; it’s razor thin. Everybody is right around .500 or just above .500 or just below .500 – in terms of talent and ability and coaching – so the difference is week to week. It’s your ability to persist, overcome, come up with a good gameplan, execute the gameplan, and then really make plays – make plays that win games in critical situations – and that’s who ends up winning the game.”

JUSTIN MADUBUIKE

eVerMOre

Fourth-year defensive tackle Justin Madubuike is one of several players making a difference on this year’s Ravens defense. The 2020 third-round pick and Texas native brings a level of physicality and explosiveness along the powerful Baltimore defensive line. Learn more about him below:

Do you have a favorite team outside the NFL?

What is your favorite class/course you took in college?

 I rock with my guys the Dallas Mavericks, because I was born in Dallas. Luka Doncic is the G.O.A.T. But I have to admit, Lebron James is my favorite player.

 I loved history.

What job would you have if you weren’t playing professional football?

Who was your favorite athlete growing up?  Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. I was also a big fan of Amar’e Stoudemire when he was on the New York Knicks.

 I probably would be finishing up my degree at Texas A&M, honestly.

If you could have one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Which game show could you be on and win the top prize?

 Lasagna or ravioli, with some wine or some sprite, and a little breadstick here and there.

 I feel like I could win a three-point shooting contest. I can really shoot. A lot of guys don’t know that, but my jump shot is like that. I can dunk on someone, too.

Have you ever performed an act of heroism?  I actually did push my girlfriend out of the way of a car. We were about to go eat, and she was about to cross the street. I grabbed her shoulder immediately and pulled her back from a guy who was flying by in a car!

14 | 2023 baltimore ravens gameday

If you could guest star on any TV show, what would it be?  I used to watch Cartoon Network all the time growing up. I would love to do a voiceover of someone, like Ed, Edd n Eddy or Courage the Cowardly Dog.

What is a song guaranteed to get you dancing?  You’ve got to play “31 Days” by Future.

OLB Tavius Robinson, CB Kevin Seymour and WR Laquon Treadwell joined women from ACS’s Baltimore Hope Lodge for the team’s annual Crucial Catch Day, hosted at M&T Bank Stadium.

Baltimore Ravens Crucial Catch Efforts The Ravens and the American Cancer Society (ACS) are supporting the fight against all cancers through the “Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer” campaign. At today’s game, the Ravens are recognizing nearly 50 PSL owners and fans who have courageously fought, and in some cases continue to fight a wide variety of cancers. All fans in attendance will have the opportunity to display a placard with either a suggested message or personalized message, identifying the groups or individuals they honor as part of the Crucial Catch messaging.

The Ravens also continued to support cancer awareness efforts through the team’s Crucial Catch Day. On October 2, the Ravens surprised seven women who are currently battling various types of cancer for a day of pampering, self-care and fun. OLB Tavius Robinson, CB Kevin Seymour and WR Laquon Treadwell joined the women for their special day. The women in attendance were escorted to a suite in M&T Bank Stadium where they created their own flower bundle, received a massage, had their makeup done and were fitted for a brand new, custom wig.
