game preview

numbers to note

> The Ravens have not lost a preseason game since 2015, posting a 22-0 record dating back to 2016.

> Under head coach John Harbaugh (2008-22), Baltimore has compiled a 42-12 record in the preseason.

In 2021, after starting the season with an AFC-best 8-3 record, the Ravens dropped their last six games – five of which came by a combined 8 points. With a final 8-9 record, Baltimore missed the playoffs for the first time in four seasons and for just the fifth time during head coach John Harbaugh’s 14year Ravagedtenure.by injuries throughout 2021 – including season-ending injuries to standouts RB J.K. Dobbins, RB Gus Edwards and CB Marcus Peters –Baltimore battled through consistent adversity and remained in playoff contention entering the Week 18 game vs. Pittsburgh. The Ravens played an NFL-high nine games that were decided by 3 or fewer points in 2021, including that final 16-13 overtime defeat against the Steelers. In 2021, Baltimore’s offense ranked No. 6 in total yards (378.8 ypg) and registered the league’s No. 3 rushing attack (145.8 ypg). The Ravens produced the NFL’s No. 1 run defense (84.5 ypg) and ranked No. 3 on third down (34.8%).

The Ravens close out preseason play when they host the Commanders tonight in a “Beltway Battle” at M&T Bank Stadium. Baltimore is coming off a 24-17 road victory at Arizona, which was the Ravens’ 22nd-consecutive preseason win dating back to 2016, extending their all-time NFL record. Baltimore aims to go undeafeated in the preseason for the sixth-straight season.

“It goes a long way, because we’ve got some great players on our defense. They’re a unit that’s better than [any opponent]. Going against them every day, it just prepares us for any kind of defense that we’ll face. They make us gain everything that we’re trying to get.”QBTyler Huntley On how practicing against the Ravens’ defense helps him

QB Lamar Jackson missed a combined five games last season, including the final four contests due to an ankle injury. Still earning Pro Bowl honors, Jackson was 246-of-382 passing for 2,882 yards, 16 TDs and 13 INTs, adding a team-high 767 rushing yards. All-Pro TE Mark Andrews was sensational, producing single-season team records for receptions (107) and receiving yards (1,361 – which also rank third most by a TE in NFL singleseason league history).

> The 22 straight wins mark the longest streak in NFL preseason history, besting the Packers’ 19game win streak from 1959-62.

on the ravens’ 22-game preseason winning streak: “It’s not the thing that we’re thinking about the most [consecutive wins], by any stretch. Guys are out there just trying to play ball. They’re trying to compete, like they do. They compete at everything. They want to find a way to win. That’s what you love about [them]. What I think this so-called streak shows you is that over a lot of years, a lot of guys have found a way to come through at the end and win games. That’s what you’re proud of.”

color poe your way!

Since hatching in 1998, Poe and the Ravens have gone together like crab cakes and football! Known for his loyalty to Charm City and anything Maryland, Poe will eagerly show his pride for his home city and state. With Ravens being known as one of the smartest bird species, Poe is no slouch in the classroom and loves to read and do brain teasers. Though sometimes he can be a little off, like the spelling bee in elementary school when he spelled Baltimore B-A-L-M-E-R. Don’t bring it up, sore subject.

When he’s not cheering on the Ravens or goofing off, fitness is Poe’s passion! If you can’t find him at M&T Bank Stadium, check Merritt Clubs, he’s probably there. You can find Poe all over the community at festivals, parades, birthday parties, weddings, Purple Friday Caravans, and everywhere in between. He specializes in high fives, doing the floss, and posing for selfies with Ravens fans! If for some reason he seems tired, just give him a protein shake because those always get him going!

Other than football, Poe’s favorite kind of ball is a goofball. He never misses a chance to photo bomb pictures, dance for no reason, or act out his favorite book at the library. Once, he hid in a stuffed animal bin at a local toy store to surprise unsuspecting teddy bear shoppers.

DB Brandon Stephens was drafted by the Ravens in the third round (104th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. Stephens, who played in all 17 games (11 starts) as a rookie last year, made 74 tackles and tallied 4 passes defensed. Here’s an inside look at No. 21: Do you have a pre-game/post-game ritual? I’ve got to listen to Nipsey Hussle before a game. Which game show could you be on and win the top prize? Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Do you play any instruments? I used to play trombone throughout my childhood, and I just started playing saxophone. What do you envision for life after football – could you see yourself in coaching or broadcasting? I want to be around the game as long as possible – whether that’s coaching or developing young athletes. What is your favorite quote, and who said it?
