EMERALD COAST BEER FESTIVAL

Pensacola’s largest and oldest craft beer tasting event is back for its 29th year. The Emerald Coast Beer Festival will return to the streets of downtown Pensacola on September 5, featuring more than 300 different beers and beverages provided by the Rollins Distillery and the Escambia Bay Homebrewers Club (EBHC).

Hosted annually by the EBHC and Seville Quarter, the Emerald Coast Beer Festival has earned its reputation as the longest-running beer festival on the Gulf Coast.

The festival offers attendees the chance to sample over 200 different craft beers from more than 60 breweries and microbreweries from across the country, including Urban South Brewery, Boston Beer Co., Goat Island Brewing Company, Braided River Brewing Co., Grayton Beer Company, Iron Hand Brewing, Timber Creek Winery and Distillery and many more.

In addition to breweries, the festival will also host several wineries and area homebrew clubs from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Originally founded by the Florida Brewers Guild, the festival was taken over by the EBHC back in 1999. “It started as an event to get area brewers and homebrewers together for a fun time after Labor Day,” EBHC Treasurer Jim Martin said.

Since the EBHC takeover, the festival has grown to become one of the largest beer events in the Southeast. “We worked with the folks at Seville Quarter to set it up,” Martin explained. “The festival started out in the parking lot in the back of Seville and Apple Annie’s [inside Seville Quarter]. Today, we close the entire street out front and use all the rooms inside Seville.

Since being taken over by the EBHC, the festival has experienced tremendous growth, attracting more than 2,500 attendees in 2019.

“We have grown from 176 attendees the first year to more than 2,500 the year before COVID,” Martin explained. “Last year was the first time we had rain during the festival, but attendance was still around 1,400.”

The ECHBC started with a small group of craft beer lovers in the spring of 1985, back when the craft brew scene only happened in the garages and basements of enthusiasts. Today, the ECHBC consists of more than 100 members who craft all types of adult beverages, including beer, wine, mead and cider. Since its establishment, the club has developed connections with other homebrew clubs across the country.

The festival will feature a variety of tasty brews and craft beverages from more than a dozen regional homebrew clubs, as well as several major regional beer distributors. Attendees will also be able

to purchase food from local food truck vendors and enjoy live music performed across several stages.

The 2025 Emerald Coast Beer Festival will be held on September 5 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Seville Quarter in downtown Pensacola. With two types of admission tickets available, attendees will have a range of fun activities to choose from throughout the event.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at the website emeraldcoastbeerfest.com.

General admission tickets are $25 for EBHC members and $35 for

general admission before the event. Tickets can also be purchased the day of the event for $40.

General admission tickets provide access to samples of more than 200 craft beers with an Emerald Coast Beer Fest tasting glass, live music, various food vendors and exclusive entry to the event after-party inside Seville Quarter.

For $80, individuals can purchase VIP admission tickets, which include everything from general admission, as well as early access to the festival with entry beginning at 5 pm, hors d’oeuvres, mead tasting and

complimentary craft spirits from local distilleries.

The EBHC will donate a portion of this year’s event proceeds to benefit the Seville Rotary Club and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul AlfredWashburn Center.

This is the perfect opportunity to sample some of the best beers from the Emerald Coast and beyond. With hundreds of craft beers to choose from, you’re sure to find something you love.

FORBES MAGAZINE NAMES BAPTIST HEALTH CARE TO AMERICA’S BESTIN-STATE EMPLOYER LIST

Baptist Health Care has been recognized on the Forbes list of America’s Best-In-State Employers for 2025. It is the only health care system in Northwest Florida to earn this recognition. This prestigious award is presented in collaboration with Statista, the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. Forbes and Statista selections were based on an independent survey from over 160,000 team members working for U.S. companies employing at least 500 people. Over 2 million employer evaluations were considered. The final score is based on two types of employee evaluations: personal (those given by employees themselves) and public (those given by friends and family members of employees, or members of the public who work in the same industry).

"We are truly honored to receive this recognition,” said Mark Faulkner, president and CEO, Baptist Health Care. “It’s a reflection of the extraordinary culture we’ve built and the individuals who bring their passion, purpose and excellence to everything they do. Our team members are the heart of our organization, and this award highlights our commitment to fostering a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported and empowered.”

Baptist Health Care is the area’s only locally led and governed not-for-profit health care provider. With more than 4,500 team members, it is the second-largest nongovernmental employer in Northwest Florida. Baptist continues to grow at its locations throughout the community. GULF WINDS CREDIT UNION KICKS OFF HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WOMEN

BUILD DAY WITH “WRITTEN IN THE WALLS” INITIATIVE

Gulf Winds Credit Union is proud to announce its participation in this year’s Women Build Day with the Pensacola Habitat for Humanity, an inspiring event that brings women together to help build strength, stability, and self-reliance through housing. The official build day will take place on October 1, with a team of 20 Gulf Winds volunteers joining forces to help raise the walls of a new home for a deserving local family.

To celebrate and amplify the impact of Women Build, Gulf Winds is launching a powerful and personal way for team members and credit union members to support the build before the first nail is hammered. Written in the Walls Pink Boards Now in Branches: Sign and Show Your Support

For the next few weeks vibrant pink frame boards—that will become part of the walls of the new home—will be available in Gulf Winds branch lobbies across Alabama, Pensacola, and Tallahassee. All are invited to sign the boards and write a message of encouragement to future homeowners.

“These inspiring messages of hope will become part of the very foundation of the home,” said Pola Young, Director of Community Engagement at Gulf Winds Credit Union. “It's a lasting reminder that our support goes beyond a single day of volunteerism. We’re helping to build a future filled with strength, security, and community.”

ESTUARY PROGRAM RELEASES 2025

STATE OF THE BAYS REPORT FOR PENSACOLA AND PERDIDO BAY WATERSHEDS

The Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program (PPBEP) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2025 State of the Bays Report for the Pensacola and Perdido Bay watersheds.

Just like people need health checkups, so do our waters. The State of the Bays Report provides a snapshot of key ecosystem health metrics for the Pensacola and Perdido Bay watersheds, and serves as a centralized source of information for the community to learn more about the condition of our local waterways. The web platform provides summary data on key indicators such as habitats, water quality, bacteria, and wildlife. Each ecosystem indicator is ranked as improving, stable, declining, critical, or undetermined. Historical information, potential causes, recent trends, solutions, and actions the public can take are provided for each indicator.

PPBEP first released the State of the Bays Report in 2023 to serve as a community resource guide, connecting the science to the community. In addition to serving as a summary of ecosystem status and trends, the biennial report informs future actions necessary to improve and/or maintain ecosystem health.

A new feature in the 2025 update is the addition of fisheries as a new wildlife subcategory. The report details species richness (number of species in an area) across bay segments and highlights important recreational and commercial species like Gray Snapper, Speckled Trout, and Brown Shrimp.

The State of the Bays Report is available at stateofthebays.org/

Key findings from the report include:

• Oysters are in critical condition in the Pensacola Bay System.

• Seagrass beds are stable in the Pensacola and Perdido Bay Systems.

• Water quality in the Pensacola Bay System is overall stable for nitrogen, phosphorus, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and chlorophyll-a.

• Water quality in the Perdido Bay System is a blend of positive and negative indicators, improving for dissolved oxygen, stable for nitrogen, declining for phosphorus and chlorophyll-a, and undetermined for turbidity due to inconsistent monitoring.

• Fewer sanitary sewer overflows have occurred in the Perdido Bay watershed.

• More sanitary sewer overflows have occurred in the Pensacola Bay watershed. Fewer beach advisories have been issued due to bacterial concentrations, indicating improved conditions in the Perdido Bay System.

• Beach advisory numbers have been consistent in the Pensacola Bay System. Urban bayous (Chico, Grande, Texar) have frequently exceeded bacterial standards.

• Manatee sightings remain consistent in both Pensacola & Perdido Bay watersheds.

to help address water quality data gaps and synchronize monitoring methodologies. The Program’s Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) serves as a guide to implementing monitoring, research, reporting, restoration, education and outreach, and policy priorities to help improve ecological conditions in the watersheds.

The community can take action to help improve conditions in the bay through many steps, including:

• Becoming an Estuary Program Member or Business Sponsor by making a financial contribution to support water quality monitoring, restoration, and education. estuary101.com/donate/

• Being Seagrass Aware: You can help prevent propeller scarring — trim up your motor when boating over shallow seagrass beds — your motor will thank you too!

• Practicing smart fertilizer use to prevent algal growth and fish kills.

Don’t fertilize right before a rainstorm

◦ Sweep or blow grass clippings and excess fertilizer from driveways and streets back onto the lawn

◦ Never fertilize within 10 feet of a waterbody

• No fats, oils, or grease down the drain: Fats, oils, and grease can clog your sewer line, just like cholesterol can clog your arteries. Don’t pour them down the drain. Dispose of them in a sealed container, either in the trash or at a local disposal center.

• Keep shorelines soft and living: Consider a natural or living shoreline instead of seawalls or bulkheads for waterfront property. These softer, more natural shorelines filter stormwater runoff, absorb storm surge, reduce erosion, and provide habitat for estuary creatures and critters. Plus, they’re cheaper and require less maintenance!

• Maintain septic tanks and lateral lines.

• Maintain vegetated barriers that act as buffers along wetland edges and streambanks. Support investments for water quality improvements and wastewater infrastructure.

• Boat responsibly: Pump out, don’t dump out.

The mission of the Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program is to restore and protect the Pensacola and Perdido Bay watersheds through restoration, education, and unbiased monitoring of the health of our bays, estuaries, and watersheds.

The Estuary Program serves as a trusted source for residents, businesses, industry, and the community on issues relating to preserving, restoring, improving, and maintaining the natural habitat and ecosystem of the bays, estuaries and watersheds of Pensacola and Perdido Bays. PPBEP strives to achieve a healthy and collaborative environment by:

1. Elevating and increasing the importance, awareness and understanding of environmental quality.

Giving Back, One Message at a Time

In addition to signing the pink boards, participants are encouraged to make a donation, which will directly support Gulf Winds’ fundraising goal. Donations can be made using a QR code posted next to the boards or at the teller line, and every dollar will go toward the team’s $20,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity, set to be presented on-site during the build.

How to Participate:

• Look for the Pink Boards and Sharpies in your local Gulf Winds branch lobby. Add your signature and a heartfelt message of hope for the future homeowners.

• Make a donation using the posted QR code or at the teller line.

• Share the opportunity with fellow community members and friends to grow the impact.

A Stronger Community, One Wall at a Time Gulf Winds is committed to building stronger communities through hands-on service, financial contributions, and initiatives that bring people together. Women Build is more than a volunteer event—it's a movement of empowerment and support. Learn more about this initiative and Pensacola Habitat for Humanity: Written in the Walls For more information about Gulf Winds Credit Union, visit GoGulfWinds.com.

• Fisheries in Perdido Bay have higher species richness in lower areas of the bay where more seagrass is present (e.g. Wolf Bay, Little Lagoon, Lower Perdido) compared to open bay areas. Species richness has fluctuated over time but is stable overall.

• Fisheries in Pensacola Bay are largely undetermined due to inconsistent monitoring. Santa Rosa Sound has had the most consistent monitoring efforts in the bay system.

The Estuary Program is working with partners to implement a Comprehensive Monitoring Strategy for both bay systems

2. Employing rigorous, unbiased, and scientifically sound science to inform and guide decisions, policies, and initiatives.

3. Funding programs and projects that protect the environment, increasing ecological resilience.

4. Building a network of inclusive, multistakeholder partnerships that takes into account factors affecting the environment, the economy, and the communityat-large for the benefit of improving the quality of life for all.

Build teams are encouraged to design food structures for display on-site at Cordova Mall; however, off-site locations, such as offices, are also acceptable. Digital designs

PensaCAN sponsors can choose to designate their sponsorship toward a single build team or the event as a whole. All sponsorship levels include (at minimum) recognition on event signage (displayed throughout Cordova Mall, October 3-10) and Manna’s event webpage.

A panel of judges will vote on the structures on Friday, October 3, in categories such as Best Nutrition Award, Best Graphics Award, Structural Ingenuity Award, and more. Additionally, People’s Choice Award votes will be accepted online at mannahelps.org from October 3 to October 10.

CONGRESSMAN PATRONIS INTRODUCES BILL ALLOWING LICENSING FLEXIBILITY FOR VETERANS

Today, Congressman Jimmy Patronis introduced H.R. 5035 - Veteran and Spouse Licensing Flexibility Act of 2025. This proveteran family legislation would cut the red tape for professionally licensed service members and their spouses as they transition to civilian life after their years of service to America. Under circumstances similar to those contained in the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, veterans and their spouse would have the ability to port their professional licenses to different jurisdictions for the first 36 months following the honorable discharge of the servicemember.

Congressman Jimmy Patronis said, “Millions of veterans who proudly served in uniform possess a wide range of professional skills when they return home from military service, many of which are skills that require professional licensing. Many served as doctors, engineers, electricians, and more. What better way to help our veterans transition back into society and the American job market than to allow them the portability necessary to use their skills to serve their local communities. That’s why I introduced the Veteran and Spouse Licensing Flexibility Act of 2025. This bill enables newly discharged

families to maximize all the opportunities the Trump economy has to offer regardless of state lines and where the servicemember or spouse may have started his or her professional journey. If you’ve put your life on the line for our country, you deserve every opportunity available to continue practicing your profession knowing you will have the ability to provide for your family.

Under current law, military personnel and spouses with professional licenses, such as licenses in medicine, engineering, and etc., must receive approval from local or state professional authorities to practice their trade. Under this bill, not only are military families afforded flexibility in their post-service planning, but they are also guaranteed speed. If a licensing authority fails to act within 30 days of the application, the veteran or their spouse receives a temporary license. This measure ensures that our heroes can transition seamlessly into civilian careers, support their families, and keep contributing their skills to our communities.
