years ago and admits she often found herself offering environmental advice. Eventually, she and the station’s program director decided to see if she could develop a oneminute environmental program. The result was EcoMinute. After 18 years, the project has become a significant part of Sisskin’s environmental outreach. This year, she expanded the concept into a podcast, EcoMinutes, giving her the opportunity to explore subjects in greater depth than a one-minute broadcast allows. The idea emerged during hurricane season last year, when Sisskin produced a series of EcoMinutes about rapidly intensifying hurricanes. Listeners wanted more information, and the expanded format provided an opportunity to dig deeper. Her most recent podcast focused on data centers and their environmental effects. “I consider the EcoMinutes still a work in progress,” Sisskin said. “With each one I do, I learn some more.” That spirit of continued learning also informs her work with the League of Women Voters. The Natural Resources Committee is preparing to begin another year of work, with members considering a range of environmental issues identified through a recent survey. For residents wondering what they can do on an individual level, Sisskin recommends starting with practical changes, and reducing activities that contribute to climate change is one place to begin. These activities include: • Drive less and choose fuel-efficient vehicles • Use ceiling fans and keep homes at comfortable, but not excessive, temperatures • Plant trees and preserve as many existing trees as possible, especially live oaks

Reducing plastic consumption is another important step, and anyone can help if they: • Use reusable shopping bags, water bottles and coffee cups • Choose natural fibers • Shop at thrift and consignment stores • Her third recommendation may be the most important: Get involved. “Monitor and follow what your elected officials do,” Sisskin said. “Tell them your opinion on the issues and vote!” For those who want to become more involved locally, Sisskin recommends the League of Women Voters of the Pensacola Bay Area, as well as organizations including the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, Sierra Club, Bream Fishermen Association, Earth Ethics, Francis M. Weston Audubon Society, Healthy Gulf, Save Our Soundside, Friends of Perdido Bay, garden clubs and native-plant organizations. After decades of research, education and advocacy, Sisskin remains committed to helping communities understand that informed residents can make a difference. Whether through a one-minute radio segment, an in-depth podcast, a public meeting or a conversation with a neighbor, she continues to make environmental science accessible while encouraging Northwest Florida residents to recognize that protecting the region begins with understanding it. For Sisskin, environmental advocacy is not a single issue or a single organization. It is a lifelong commitment to asking difficult questions about how communities grow, how natural resources are used and what kind of environment future generations will inherit. A VOICE FOR THE GULF DR. ENID SISSKIN’S LIFELONG ENVIRONMENTAL MISSION

F

or more than 20 years, Dr. Enid Sisskin has made environmental protection more than a career: for her, it’s a calling. Sisskin has helped Northwest Florida residents better understand the environmental forces shaping their communities. As a broadcast associate at WUWF-FM, she has spent 18 years producing EcoMinute, a one-minute radio feature that breaks down complex environmental science into practical information listeners can understand and use. But Sisskin’s work extends well beyond the microphone. A scientist, educator, researcher and longtime environmental advocate, she has spent decades studying the relationship between human health and the natural world while working to protect both. Sisskin earned her Ph.D. in pathobiology from Columbia University Medical School before completing a fellowship at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, part of the National Institutes of Health. Her career has included work as a researcher and natural resource specialist at Everglades National Park, as well as faculty and research positions at the University of West Florida. Today, she remains deeply involved in environmental advocacy throughout the region. She serves as chair of the Natural Resources Committee of the League of Women Voters of the Pensacola Bay Area, where she has worked on issues including clearcutting, overdevelopment, plastic pollution, native plants and regenerative agriculture. She is also a board member of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, where she focuses on climate initiatives and the transition to cleaner, less expensive renewable energy. Locally, she has worked with citizen

groups seeking a moratorium on large data centers. As the director of Gulf Coast Environmental Defense, Sisskin played a key role in efforts to prevent offshore drilling near Pensacola Beach. With so many environmental challenges facing the world today, Sisskin is reluctant to limit the conversation to just three. “It’s really hard to narrow it down to three, but many of them intersect,” Sisskin said. “There’s climate change, plastic and other pollution. Land use issues, which could include ways we develop our communities, data centers and polluting industries. And a fourth – the dismantling of our environmental laws and regulations.” For Northwest Florida, these issues are particularly immediate. Of all these challenges, however, Sisskin highlights climate change as one of the biggest threats. “Climate change is to me the existential threat to people worldwide,” Sisskin said. “There are so many ripple effects for every degree of warming including some I mentioned: sea level rise, increased temperatures, extreme weather events, increased threats to human health as well as loss of glaciers and ice sheets, ocean warming and acidification.” As a coastal community, Pensacola is vulnerable to the effects of rising sea levels caused by climate change. Sisskin points to the flooding already experienced in other coastal cities, including so-called sunny-day flooding, as a glimpse of what could become increasingly common here. The region is also experiencing extreme heat. Recent heat indices exceeding 110 degrees demonstrate how climate change can affect residents not only environmentally but physically, particularly people who work outdoors or lack access to reliable air conditioning.

Sisskin notes that warmer conditions have expanded the range of some disease-carrying mosquitoes and ticks, while cases of Vibrio vulnificus, a potentially dangerous bacteria found in warm coastal waters, have increased over the past several decades. Plastic pollution poses its own threat to the Gulf Coast. Plastic debris can injure or kill birds, sea turtles and other marine animals, while the microscopic remnants of plastic are increasingly difficult to escape. Sisskin points to research showing that people tested in other parts of the world have been found to have microplastics and chemicals associated with plastics in their bodies. Then there is the question of how, and how quickly, Northwest Florida develops. Clearcutting and overdevelopment can contribute to flooding, water pollution and habitat loss while reducing biodiversity and potentially worsening climate change. Sisskin is particularly concerned about large data centers, which can require enormous amounts of electricity and water, occupy large areas of impervious surface (that do not let water pass through), generate noise and produce electronic waste. Sisskin’s role as an environmental advocate naturally led her into public speaking. When Gulf Coast Environmental Defense was fighting offshore drilling, she regularly spoke before groups and at public hearings to build support for the effort. Her work with the League of Women Voters has also put her in front of local audiences, while her years as a university faculty member gave her experience teaching and communicating complex subjects. Her broadcasting career began in a similarly organic way. Sisskin started working at WUWF-FM 26

CITY PLANS MOVING FORWARD FROM MAYOR’S AUGUST WORKFORCE SUMMIT After a successful Workforce Summit at Pensacola City Hall, Mayor D.C. Reeves says the focus now turns to how to turn the conversation into concrete action. “As I have said many times, my laser-focus for this term is ensuring that our community builds and supports the talent pipeline needed to make sure that projects like Birdon and partners like ST Engineering have the talent pool they need to thrive here,” Reeves said. “The engagement we saw from the business, education and governmental sectors shows me that the community prioritizes that as well.” Emceed by Steve Baham, the City’s Economic Development Director, the summit included guests who are leaders in secondary and higher education, workforce development, business leaders, private industry and more. “The engagement among the people in the room spoke volumes about how important this subject is to the community,” Baham said. “We did not intend to solve every challenge in the first conversation, but we did set the table for what will come next to help prepare the community and the region for the future.” The summit focused on what the workforce development landscape is statewide, what industry leaders in our region see as needs, identifying capacity, programs that can scale, gaps and funding, flexibility, stacking programs and resource deployment. “As good as the conversation was, I want to be clear: The summit was the easy part; the real work starts now,” Reeves said. What’s next Next steps include convening two working groups–one of private business, one of academia–to continue the conversation in a focused way. According to Baham, based on the survey of attendees, the key themes for moving forward are: Keeping the engagement among employers, educators and government leaders; Building the talent pipeline with answers good for both the short- and long-term. Often mentioned was the need to include everything from apprenticeships, rapid credentialing programs, on-the-job training, as well as short-term and stackable credential pathways, alongside traditional degreed programs.

Ensuring the communication about what job opportunities exist flows to parents and students from schools and educators. Other common threads noted were that the solution to workforce development will have regional impacts and that while the conversation focuses on recruitment, the importance of retention of skilled employees should not be overlooked. “I’m proud of what the community brought to the table, and I’m looking forward to what we build together from here,” Reeves said. SANTA ROSA AND ESCAMBIA COUNTIES PARTNER TO TURN SCRAP MATERIALS INTO UNDERWATER HABITAT Santa Rosa County and Escambia County are joining forces to give damaged metal signposts a second life as an underwater micro-habitat for marine life. Through a collaborative “reef-cycling” initiative, the two counties are repurposing damaged metal signposts by incorporating them into concrete artificial reef modules. The partnership brings together local government, education and environmental stewardship to create lasting benefits for marine life and the communities that enjoy these resources. This is part of a pilot project to determine if these added metal structures on select planned concrete modules will provide shelter for small fish and invertebrates. This Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) funded Natural Resources Damage Assessment (NRDA) Artificial Reef project consists of 124 concrete reef modules deployed in the Escambia County near-shore east site. The micro-habitat structures attached to the concrete modules are an opportunity to use the metal from the signposts to further enhance the upcoming FWC-NRDA deployment. The project also includes students from the welding program at George Stone Technical College, who are helping transform the scrap materials into structures that can be incorporated into the artificial reef modules. This hands-on experience allows students to apply their technical skills to a project that directly benefits the region’s marine environment.

“Working with Escambia County on this project has shown what we can accomplish when we look for creative solutions together,” said Chris Verlinde, Natural Resources Coordinator for Santa Rosa County. “This collaboration extends beyond jurisdictional boundaries to protect and enhance our shared natural resources. By repurposing materials into artificial reef habitat, the counties are reducing waste, strengthening the region’s reef network and creating benefits for marine life, education and recreation.” "We're excited about this partnership between both counties and George Stone Technical College, which not only provides valuable experience for George Stone welding students, but also benefits local divers, anglers and marine life through this new underwater habitat," said Robert Turpin, Escambia County Marine Resources Division Manager. "This new habitat will be a great addition to our artificial reefs, providing opportunities for important scientific research into the relationships between reef habitat and marine species." This reef-cycling project demonstrates how regional partnerships can create innovative solutions that benefit the environment, education and the communities of Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties. By repurposing materials that might otherwise be discarded, the partnership strengthens the region’s artificial reef network while providing educational opportunities for the next generation of skilled workers.

Ty’Ray Davis from West Florida earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after he led the Argos to its second consecutive win after going 14-for-17 in the air for 227 yards and three touchdown passes. The redshirt sophomore playcaller added 75 yards on the ground and a score of his own en route to the Argos 42-14 win over Central Arkansas. Tarleton State’s Tylan Hines had a recordbreaking week to give him an Offensive Player of the Week nod. The 5th year running back had personal and FCS-season highs in rushing yards (250) and scrimmage yards (297) en route to the Texans’ second win over an FCS opponent over as many years. He had clocked a 72-yard run to set up a touchdown in the second quarter and took Tarleton State from its own eight-yard line to the Bowling Green nine-yard line after a breakaway 83-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

Hines’ teammate, Jaden Aubert, earned this week’s Defensive Player of the Week honor after he forced two fumbles against Bowling Green in the team’s 20-13 victory. Along with his two forced fumbles, both resulting in Texans takeaways and touchdowns, the senior defensive back recorded seven tackles. Abilene Christian’s Alex Broome took home the Specialist of the Week honor after he returned a 98-yard kickoff against FBS 12th-ranked Texas Tech. NAS PENSACOLA RELIGIOUS MINISTRIES DEPARTMENT PROVIDES SUICIDE PREVENTION TRAINING TO SAILORS Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola’s Religious Ministries Department provided suicide prevention training to Sailors throughout August 2026, helping the command strengthen awareness, intervention skills and connections to support resources. Developed by LivingWorks, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and safeTALK are suicide prevention programs that can be applied in military settings to help personnel recognize warning signs, engage in supportive conversations and connect those at risk with appropriate care. safeTALK focuses on suicide alertness, while ASIST provides more in-depth intervention training for leaders and others likely to respond directly to a person in crisis. ““It’s rewarding to be a part of teaching others to not just save lives, but to be a resource, and to get resources used in helping prevent death by suicide,” said Lt. Latoya Credit, staff chaplain with Naval Air Station Pensacola’s Religious Ministries Department and co-facilitator for ASIST. “Senior personnel have likely already dealt with situations like the ones discussed in the course. ASIST helps expand their toolbox and smooth out any rough edges.” The department trained more than 100 Sailors during the month as part of a Commander, Navy Installations Command initiative to train installation personnel. E-5 Sailors attended safeTALK, while E-6 through E-9 Sailors completed Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, or ASIST. “I have full confidence in the material and trust the facilitation style,” said Religious Program Specialist 1st Class David Wingfield, Religious Ministries Department leading petty officer and co-facilitator for ASIST. “ASIST allows for leaders to facilitate and foster suicide-safe commands.”

Wingfield explained that a suicide-safe command is one that allows open communication about mental health, meets service members where they are on each of their mental health journeys and provides a sound framework for suicide prevention. Both ASIST and safeTALK use LivingWorks’ Pathway for Assisting Life or PAL three-phase model for response. “I think the enlisted leadership team received a solid model and refresher in dealing with suicidal behavior,” Wingfield said. “I am confident in the PAL model’s application.” Religious Program Specialist 2nd Class Almira Gangapersad, Religious Ministries Department’s assistant leading petty officer, facilitated safeTALK for all the E-5 personnel assigned to NAS Pensacola. “SafeTALK is about suicide alertness,” said Gangapersad. “It’s learning to see the signs, talk to Sailors, observe their actions and conversations and, if someone is having suicidal ideations, get them to a suicide prevention resource, such as a chaplain or medical.” September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, allowing service members and civilians to share resources, spread awareness and provide training on suicide prevention. NAVAL AIR STATION PENSACOLA OBSERVES 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola held observances onboard the installation, Sept. 11, 2026. A 9/11 remembrance ceremony, organized by NAS Pensacola and Naval Air Technical Training Command (NATTC), was held at the Charles E. Taylor hangar at NATTC. Uniformed service members, local first responders and civilian employees observed a moment of silence to honor the victims of the attacks and a reading of the events of the terrorist attacks 25 years ago. “For a quarter century, our nation has kept a solemn promise: we will never forget,” said Capt. Ronald Rumfelt Jr., Naval Aviation Schools Command’s commanding officer and guest speaker at the event. “To never forget is not merely a slogan, it is an operational imperative. For 25 years, the men and women of our armed forces have answered the call born on that morning. Some of you may not have been born when our nation was attacked, yet stand here, entrusted with the task of bearing our heritage into the future, and keeping our solemn promise: we will never forget.” Additionally, a public ceremony was held at the National Naval Aviation Museum’s Blue Angels Atrium onboard NAS Pensacola. Among the speakers in attendance were retired Vice Adm. John Totushek and retired Cmdr. Steve Scheibner, who recounted their experiences of the events of Sept. 11, 2001. Scheibner, then an American Airlines commercial pilot, was originally scheduled to fly Flight 11 the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, which was hijacked and ultimately flown into the North

Tower of the World Trade Center. Scheibner was rescheduled to a different flight on Sept. 10, 2001. “I think all of us, if we’re old enough, remember exactly where we were on that terrible day,” said Scheibner. “That first television screen you saw is etched into your mind forever. It’s one of those moments where your brain takes a snapshot of exactly where you were.” Totushek, the former Chief of Naval Reserve and Commander, Naval Reserve Force, was inside his office when American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon building in Arlington, Virginia. “God bless the brave people that fought fires and went into buildings and rescued people that day,” said Totushek. “God bless the military people and contractors who worked so hard to get the Pentagon back up and running in less than a year. And we’ll never forget. UWF DESIGNATED CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR DOMESTIC MARITIME WORKFORCE TRAINING AND EDUCATION The University of West Florida has been designated one of 16 new Centers of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation through the Maritime Administration for developing engineers and technical professionals powering Gulf Coast shipbuilding. This designation certifies UWF’s ability to produce exceptional graduates for the maritime workforce through high-quality education and training. As the Maritime Administration assessed the University for this prestigious designation, the department considered factors such as operational footprint, relevant assets, workforce pipelines and economic impact of the University. Instructional frameworks like the high-tech fabrication labs, industry-standard software and a waterfront complex allow students to explore both campus-based learning opportunities and hands-on experiences at dedicated waterfront operations. UWF also supports the Watercraft and Vessel Engineering, or WAVE, program, which deploys a project-based watercraft curriculum tailored to coastal marine manufacturers. “UWF is strategically expanding its research and development efforts in areas related to watercraft and vessel engineering and is enhancing its STEM educational offerings to meet the workforce needs of marine manufacturers,” said Dr. Mohamed Khabou, dean of the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering. UWF functions as a major technical workforce driver for the Florida panhandle. BALLET PENSACOLA OPENS ITS 48TH SEASON WITH A NEW TWO-ACT INTERPRETATION OF MARY SHELLEY’S MASTERPIECE Ballet Pensacola opens its 48th Season with Frankenstein, a new two-act choreographic interpretation by internationally acclaimed Cuban-German choreographer Gonzalo Galguera, presented Oct. 2–4, 2026, at the Clark Family Cultural Center. Inspired by Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, Galguera’s production preserves the philosophical and human core of the original while significantly reimagining its narrative structure. Rather than approaching Frankenstein primarily as a Gothic horror story, Galguera centers the ballet on creation and responsibility, grief and mortality, abandonment and the fundamental human need for recognition. Who creates the monster: the creator, the creation or the society that refuses to recognize it? A decade after Liam Scarlett’s 2016 ballet adaptation, Galguera approaches Shelley’s novel from an entirely different dramatic and musical perspective, creating an original twoact interpretation centered on the human and psychological dimensions of the story. A New Reading of Shelley One of Galguera’s most significant departures from the novel lies in the relationship between Elizabeth’s death and the creation of the Creature. In Shelley’s original, Victor creates and abandons the Creature long before his marriage to Elizabeth. After suffering repeated rejection and isolation, the Creature ultimately murders Elizabeth on her wedding night. Galguera reverses that chronology. His ballet begins within the ordered beauty of Victor and Elizabeth’s wedding celebration. Elizabeth discovers evidence of Victor’s secret experiments and later disappears during a blackout. When the light returns, she is found dead, but the cause of her death is never revealed. Unable to accept her loss, Victor pushes his research beyond its limits. In Galguera’s interpretation, the Creature does not cause Elizabeth’s death. Her death becomes the decisive rupture that drives Victor beyond the boundaries of science and mortality, ultimately leading to the creation of life. This reversal transforms the act of creation: what begins as scientific ambition becomes inseparable from grief, obsession and Victor’s refusal to accept the limits of human mortality. The Creature awakens seeking contact with its creator and is immediately rejected. It then enters the human world as an observer, learning through movement, imitation, affection and brief experiences of friendship. Fear eventually overtakes curiosity, and the Creature becomes the object of suspicion and persecution. Yet Galguera resists presenting it as inherently monstrous. Again and again, the Creature seeks connection before violence, and its increasing isolation becomes inseparable from the human response to its difference. The ballet ultimately turns the Creature into a mirror of Victor’s own choices. From Order to Shadow Galguera structures the ballet as a journey from order into shadow. The first act emerges from an aristocratic world defined by symmetry, ceremony and control. That order progressively fractures following Elizabeth’s death and Victor’s creation of life. The second act moves into a more intimate and exposed human landscape, where the Creature encounters play, friendship and the possibility of belonging before once again confronting rejection. Victor, meanwhile, remains imprisoned by grief and increasingly consumed by his pursuit of what he has created. A recurring visual language of mirrors, darkness, flashlights and fractured architecture reinforces the relationship between creator and creation, while a striking image of the Creature carrying Elizabeth in a composition recalling the Pietà deliberately complicates assumptions of guilt and innocence. Galguera also brings Victor’s father more directly into the central conflict, creating a generational structure of Father, Son and Creation. In one of the ballet’s defining moments, the father acknowledges the Creature without rejecting it, offering Victor’s creation the recognition Victor himself has consistently withheld.

Community Submission

The final confrontation leads not to the destruction of the Creature, but to Victor’s own self-destruction. As Victor dies, the Creature attempts to save him and receives, only when it is too late, the gesture of human recognition it had sought from its creator from the beginning. The ballet concludes in snow and silence as the Creature passes through a corridor of black-clad figures who watch without approaching before it disappears into the frozen landscape. The image echoes the isolation of Shelley’s Arctic conclusion while leaving Galguera’s central question unresolved: Where, ultimately, does monstrosity reside? A Curated Musical Landscape Galguera further distinguishes his Frankenstein through its musical architecture. Rather than using a single newly commissioned score, he has created a carefully curated musical landscape drawn from works by Alexander Glazunov, Anatoly Lyadov, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Giuseppe Martucci, Modest Mussorgsky, Gustav Mahler, Antonín Dvořák, Arnold Schoenberg, Gabriel Fauré, Benjamin Britten and Samuel Barber. The selection moves across contrasting musical worlds, from classical proportion and Romantic expansiveness to the psychological tension and fragmentation of late Romanticism and modernism. These contrasting musical voices become an integral part of Galguera’s dramatic architecture, drawing the audience into the fate of Victor Frankenstein and the intertwined destinies of the characters who inhabit Mary Shelley’s extraordinary literary world. Gonzalo Galguera Born in Camagüey, Cuba, Gonzalo Galguera is an internationally acclaimed Cuban-German choreographer whose career has spanned Europe and Latin America. A graduate of the prestigious Cuban National Ballet School in Havana, Galguera began his professional career in Cuba before continuing internationally and later joining the ballet of the Komische Oper Berlin as a soloist under renowned choreographer Tom Schilling. Galguera subsequently established a significant part of his career as a choreographer and artistic leader in Germany, serving as Artistic Director and Chief Choreographer of Ballet Dessau and Ballet Magdeburg, as well as Artistic Director of the Compañía Colombiana de Ballet (INCOLBALLET) in Colombia. Over the course of his career, Galguera’s choreographic work has received numerous international distinctions, including First Prize at the Ibero-American Choreography Competition in Spain and the Italian dance award The Golden Nutcracker (Lo Schiaccianoci d’Oro), presented within a festival whose artistic tradition is associated with legendary Italian ballerina Carla Fracci. His extensive body of work encompasses full-length narrative ballets, reinterpretations of classical repertoire, symphonic works and contemporary creations. Throughout this diverse repertoire, his artistic language has remained distinguished by a strong classical foundation combined with theatrical imagination, musicality, emotional depth and psychological complexity. With Frankenstein, Galguera brings those elements together in a work that returns to Mary Shelley not in search of a monster, but in search of humanity — and the absence of humanity — that creates one. Launched in 2024, it expands beyond lectures to celebrate the rich cultural tapestry of the U.S. Gulf Coast Region through events linked by yearly themes. This year’s Gulf Coast Culture Series theme, Revolution & Rebellion, explores revolution, resistance, conflict and social change in recognition of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Throughout the semester, events will feature a historical and archaeological panel, as well as a variety styled show. Each event will add new perspectives on the historical impact West Florida has had on the nation through scholarly debate and historical evidence. “As the Gulf Coast Culture series enters its third year of programming, we will not only examine the historic role our area played in the nation’s founding but the different voices that freedom nurtures and allows,” said Dr. David M. The program will explore the often-overlooked role of the northern Gulf Coast during the American Revolution, when Spanish and British forces competed for control of West Florida. Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Dr.

Jack E. Davis will provide the keynote and moderate a panel of regional experts in archaeology, history and historic preservation. Together, the speakers will examine the people, places and conflicts that shaped Revolutionary-era West Florida and discuss how archaeological discoveries – both on land and underwater – continue to provide new insights into the region’s history. The evening also includes a public reception, educational displays from regional archaeology and heritage organizations, a book signing with Davis and an after-hours opportunity to visit the Pensacola Museum of History’s "Road to Revolution" exhibit. A reception will begin at 5:30 pm, followed by the event at 6 pm • Oct. 22, 2026 – “Songs of Revolution & Rebellion: A USO-Style Variety Show”: The University of West Florida College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities and the Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present “Songs of Revolution & Rebellion: A USO-Style Variety Show,” at the Museum of Commerce in downtown Pensacola. Exploring revolution, rebellion, war, peace, patriotism and protest, the production brings together faculty, students and guest performers for a musical journey through pivotal periods of American history including songs, historical letters, narration and humor that trace changing ideas about freedom and service from the American Revolution and Civil War through the World Wars and beyond. Inspired by USO’s traditional entertainment, the show celebrates Pensacola's deep military heritage and honors those who have served.
