BLENDING CULTURE

BISTROLOGY DEBUTS NEW LOCATION IN DOWNTOWN PENSACOLA

istrology has officially opened its doors in downtown Pensacola , bringing towering pancake stacks, expertly crafted lattes, floral-garnished drinks and a vibrant brunch experience for local foodies.

Located in the former Secret Sagittarius Bierwerks & Scratch Kitchen (formerly Big Top Brewing Company), Bistrology is a breakfast and brunch spot serving up specialty coffee, craft cocktails and bold American comfort food with Spanish, Columbian and European influences.

Co-owned by Jonathan Gallen and Henry Guerrero, Bistrology’s first location opened in July 2023 in Miramar Beach and quickly became a popular brunch destination amongst locals and tourists alike. The restaurant’s modern

aesthetic, unique flavors and Instagrammable dishes generated quite a buzz on social media.

After seeing the success of the flagship restaurant, Bistrology owners Jonathan Gallen and Henry Guerrero began looking to expand the business along the Gulf Coast.

The downtown location has been in the works since late 2023, and its doors finally opened to the public on August 22.

Located at 21 W. Romana St., the downtown Bistrology serves as the restaurant’s second location.

The building has been remodeled and transformed into a luxurious modern space, featuring earth-tones, natural textures, exposed brick and a gorgeous marble bar top.

Bistrology’s food and beverage menu matches the space’s sophisticated vibe, featuring visually stunning dishes, coffees and cocktails.

From elevated breakfast favorites like stuffed croissants and eggs benedict to classic lunch bites like sandwiches and burgers, Bistrology is serving up dishes that are as delicious as they are beautiful.

When creating the menu, Gallen and Guerrero were inspired by the flavors and dishes of their Spanish and Colombian cultures.

The Peruvian Ceviche—avocado with shrimp, onions and peppers served with fried plantains—and the Lomo Saltado—a flavorful beef and veggie stirfry—are two popular Spanish-inspired dishes.

The owners’ Spanish and Columbian influences are also evident in their coffee beverages. Bistrology sources its coffee beans from farms in Colombia, Brazil, Guatemala and Honduras.

Bistrology baristas will be pouring up drinks that are not

just your average cup of joe. The coffee menu features drinks made with a variety of brewing methods, including Japanese siphon, French press and espresso.

The restaurant also offers a variety of signature lattes, including the popular Nutella Signature, which includes espresso and milk, with a garnish of Nutella, Oreo cookies and whipped cream. The coffee menu also features less sweet options, including nitro cold brew, matcha lattes and all the classic espresso-based drinks.

Apart from coffee, Bistrology also serves up homemade sodas, smoothies, fresh juices and more. Several Latin-American sodas will also be available, including Mexican Coca-Cola and Fanta, Pony Malta, Colombiana and more.

For those who want to sip on something stronger, Bistrol -

ogy offers a full bar with signature brunch cocktails, including mimosas. The cocktails are crafted with house infusions and handmade syrups, giving each cocktail a unique flavor. Like every menu item at Bistrology, the cocktails are beautifully garnished, making for a picture-perfect presentation.

With its lively atmosphere, culinary creativity, and trendy aesthetic, Bistrology is on track to become a favorite brunch spot in downtown Pensacola. Bistrology is open Monday through Friday from 7 am to 3 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 7 am to 8 pm. For location details, menus and more information, visit the website bistrology.restaurant. BARRY REED ANNOUNCED AS NEW PRESIDENT/CEO OF GOODWILL

GULF COAST

Goodwill Gulf Coast proudly announces the appointment of Barry Reed as its new President and CEO, following a national search for the organization’s next leader. Reed, who currently serves as Vice President of Donated Goods Retail for Goodwill Gulf Coast, will assume his new position on October 1, following the retirement of Frank Harkins, the organization’s longtime leader who provided decades of service to the organization and its 10-county service area in Alabama and Florida.

Reed’s selection marks a new chapter for Goodwill Gulf Coast, while also representing a continuation of the organization’s mission and values. Reed’s journey with Goodwill Gulf Coast began nearly 20 years ago when he joined the team as a donation attendant. Since then, he worked his way up through the ranks, holding numerous leadership roles while demonstrating a consistent commitment to maximizing revenues from donated goods and generating financial support for programs and services.

“Barry’s passion, experience, and deep connection to our mission make him the ideal leader for Goodwill Gulf Coast’s next chapter,” Richard Wilkins, Board Chair of Goodwill Gulf Coast, said. “His story is a true ‘Goodwill success story’ that reflects what Goodwill is all about – opportunity for advancement, personal and professional growth, and dedication to the communities we serve.”

Originally from Nashville and raised by a devoted single father in the U.S. Air Force, Reed attributes his values of service, hard work, and community to his upbringing. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and recently completed his MBA at the University of West Florida. As CEO, Reed will bring not only Goodwill operational expertise but also a deep commitment to improving the lives of individuals and families through the power of work and education.

“It’s an honor to follow in Frank’s footsteps and lead an organization that has meant so much to me,” Reed said. “Goodwill Gulf Coast changed my life by continually provid-

ing me with opportunities to take on new responsibilities. As CEO, I will be committed to ensuring that Goodwill Gulf Coast continues to be a place that improves lives through the power of work and education.”

Reed lives on a small farm near Pace, Florida with his wife of 15 years, Aimee, and their beloved animals. When not at work, he enjoys hiking, home improvement projects and spending time outdoors. He recently joined the Rotary Club of Mobile, a reflection of his desire to deepen his civic engagement and give back to the community that has shaped his life so profoundly.

Harkins will retire at the end of September following 50 years of service in the nonprofit sector.

In 1979, Harkins began his 46-year tenure as senior administrator of the Mobile chapter of Alabama Easter Seals and, later on, Goodwill Gulf Coast, following a merger of the two nonprofits in 1999. He has played a pivotal role in shaping the nonprofit organization into a dynamic force for empowerment.

Today, Goodwill Gulf Coast helps thousands of individuals annually through job training, employment placement services, youth and family support, disability services and more – all rooted in its mission to empower people through education, employment, and supportive services. In FY 2024, for every dollar that Goodwill Gulf Coast spent, 90 cents went directly to support programs and services.

About Goodwill Gulf Coast

Since 1956, Goodwill Gulf Coast has helped people enter the workforce through skills training and placement services, and provided support programs for children, parents, and youth. Goodwill Gulf Coast serves seven counties in southwest Alabama and three counties in the Florida panhandle. In FY 2024, Goodwill Gulf Coast provided over 23,000 services to 14,474 individuals through workforce development programs, early childhood preparation and support, and medical, financial, and disability support services.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY OBSERVES

FLORIDA PREPAREDNESS MONTH 2025

Escambia County encourages residents

to join in observing Florida Preparedness Month during September. Florida Preparedness Month is observed each year by the state of Florida and the Florida Division of Emergency Management, in conjunction with FEMA National Preparedness Month, to increase awareness of the historical peak of Atlantic hurricane season.

“As Escambia County enters peak hurricane season, now is a great time to ensure your household is one week ready,” Emergency Manager Travis Tompkins said. “By getting prepared now, you’re avoiding the frantic run to the store to purchase supplies needed before, during and after a storm. A hurricane can have a severe impact on a community, so be sure to have seven days' worth of essential items for each member of your household. You can find a full shopping list and other important preparedness information on our website at MyEscambia.com/BeReady. We encourage residents to set up emergency alerts on all cell phones in their household and follow us on our social media channels if you are active on social media. Emergency Management will be working with local, state, and federal agencies to provide the latest storm updates for our residents and visitors." Get One Week Ready

• Residents should be equipped to provide for themselves, their families and their pets for at least one week following a major hurricane.

• Make an emergency plan and build your disaster kit with food, water, tools and other supplies for you and your family.

• Know where you will get emergency information, including alerts and warnings.

• Strengthen your home and complete any needed repairs.

• Know your evacuation zone, and have an evacuation plan.

• Pay attention to local guidance about updated plans for evacuations and shelters, including shelters for your pets. Prepare now for disasters by following these tips from Escambia County and FEMA:

• Know Your Zone - Do you live in a hurricane evacuation zone? Learn your evacuation zone and have an evacuation plan. Find your zone at the website myescambia.com/KnowYourZone.

• Know Your Home - Is it prepared for a hurricane? Your safest place may be at home instead of a shelter.

• Know Your Plan - Where can you stay if you are evacuated? Confirm plans now with family or friends, before the storm.

A Minute with EM

Escambia County Emergency Management frequently produces episodes of "A Minute with EM," a video series focusing on emergency management-related topics, including hurricane preparedness, weekly weather forecasts, how-to tips related to preparedness, community partnership spotlights and more. Every "A Minute with EM" video can be viewed at MyEscambia.com/ BeReady, and on Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube.

Check Your Insurance Coverage

• Insurance is the first line of defense in a disaster. Check your insurance coverage and review FEMA's document and insure property guide.

Flood insurance allows communities and families to recover more quickly and more fully. Visit floodsmart.gov to learn more about flood insurance and how to protect your home or business. Save for an Emergency

• Plan financially for the possibility of a disaster.

• Complete an emergency financial first aid kit.

• Maintain emergency savings for use in case of a disaster or other emergency. Learn Lifesaving Skills

• Become CPR certified.

• Know basic home maintenance to protect your family and your home. Learn how to mitigate your home against damage, and know how to turn off utilities like natural gas.
