PENSACOLA ICE FLYERS RETURN FOR 18TH SEASON

T

his month, the hangar is welcoming home the Pensacola Ice Flyers as they enter a new season full of heated matches and fun fan events. The Flyers will hit the ice for their 2026-2027 season on Oct. 17 at the Pensacola Bay Center. With 30 home games on the schedule as part of the team’s stacked 60-game season, there will be plenty of opportunities for longtime fans and newcomers alike to catch a game, take part in fan events and experience the team’s lineup of theme nights throughout the season. “Every year we’ve been building on the last one — more fans, more energy in the building, more people in this community who’ve made an Ice Flyers game part of their fall and winter,” Ice Flyers Owner Greg Harris said. “What gets me excited this year is that we’re not just adding things because we can. We’re adding things because our fans told us what they want more of.” Fans can look forward to a mix of new and veteran players on the roster this season, along with the exciting return of former goalie Rico DiMatteo. After playing goalie for the Ice Flyers last season, DiMatteo recently moved to Pensacola with his family and will re-join the team this season, ready to hit the ice and take on the competition. “I wanted to come back this season because of how much Pensacola made me feel like family last season,” DiMatteo said. “The organization is first class and takes such good care of me and all of the other players.” Alongside a thrilling lineup of games, the team is also bringing back a full slate of theme nights throughout the season. From special activities and merchandise to unique entertainment and fan

experiences, these events give fans even more ways to connect with the team, get involved in the community and show their Ice Flyers team spirit.

“Every year we’ve been building on the last one — more fans, more energy in the building, more people in this community who’ve made an Ice Flyers game part of their fall and winter.” “We build the calendar like we are planning nights out for a lot of different people, because we are,” Ice Flyers Senior Director of Operations Brendan Arney explained. “A grandparent, a season ticket holder, a family with young kids and a group of college friends should all be able to look at the slate and find a night that feels made for them.” Some longtime community favorite theme nights are making their return this season. The beloved wiener dog and small dog races are welcoming some of the area’s cutest canines onto the ice to compete for the fastest finish. “Minor league hockey is at its best when it does not take itself too seriously,” Arney said. Other returning favorites include Day of the Dead Night, Bushwackers Night, Blue Angels Night and Star Wars Night. Furthermore, several new theme nights will debut this season, such as Retro Video Games Night and Ice Pirates, adding some new ways for fans to make the most of their game-night experiences. The season will also feature several holiday theme nights, includ-

ing two for Christmas, Holiday Movie Night and Home for the Holidays, along with a Mardis Gras and St. Patrick’s Day theme night celebrations. Other notable theme night events include youth and adult jersey giveaways beginning Nov. 13, along with Military Appreciation Nights and $5 Nights at both the beginning and end of the season. “Between the $5 Nights, the military pricing and the jersey giveaways for adults and kids, there is a way for just about any family to get in the building and have a great time without overthinking the cost,” Arney said. “That was intentional. We want the Hangar to be for everybody.” Theme nights are not the only returning community events. Continuing a team tradition, the Ice Flyers Foundation will partner with SWAN Capital to host its Charity of the Month Program throughout the season. Each month, a local nonprofit will be featured during the team’s home games, giving fans an opportunity to learn more about its mission and support its work. The featured organization will also

set up a table at games throughout its designated month, providing another way for fans to connect with the charity and get involved. Both full- and half-season tickets are available for purchase online. Single-game tickets range from $20 to $30 dollars depending on seating, and those can be purchased online or in-person at the Pensacola Bay Center Box Office. Group packages are available for youth sports teams, military units, church groups and more. The Pensacola Ice Flyers are also reinstating popular mini-plans for fans to save money on tickets. The 3-Game Hat Trick Plan includes three games and a free hat for each ticket purchased, with the option to claim silver or gold seating. The 5-Game Plan allows patrons to book tickets for any five games of their choosing. These plans allow fans to experience the thrills of their most anticipated games while working them around their schedules and budgets. “I’m excited to see everyone on night one and feel the support from everyone through the ups and downs of this upcoming season,”

DiMatteo said. “I can’t wait to hear the energy every single night. It truly does help our team.” With all of these opportunities to experience these games, the Ice Flyers’ 18th season is a prime time to support the team, enjoy the various theme nights, learn about great causes and connect with a welcoming, passionate community. “We’re trying to be something this community is proud of and leans on,” Harris said. “Between the games themselves and the work we do through the Ice Flyers Foundation, we want people to feel like this team gives back more than it takes. Pensacola has a lot of options for how people spend a Friday or Saturday night and how they spend their money, so we take it seriously that families choose us.” To purchase tickets, view the full season schedule or explore fundraising and donation opportunities, visit iceflyers.com. BAPTIST HEALTH CARE HOSPITALS EARN U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT RECOGNITION

BAPTIST HEALTH CARE AND PAM HEALTH EXPAND JOINT VENTURE VISION

Baptist and Gulf Breeze hospitals have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its 2026-2027 Best Hospitals ratings for excellence in patient care. The Baptist Health Care hospitals earned 11 total High Performing awards. The honors recognize excellence in procedures and conditions within multiple areas of care, including heart and vascular, orthopedics, neurosurgery and urology. "It's always an honor to be recognized, but awards like this are really about our people," said Mark Faulkner, president and CEO of Baptist Health Care. "From our clinical to support team members, everyone plays a part in delivering patient care. We are incredibly proud of their compassion and expertise, and we are so thankful for the trust our patients and community continue to place in us."

Baptist Health Care and PAM Health are collaborating to address rapid growth and increasing demand for health care services across Northwest Florida and South Alabama. This updated partnership will bring 40 new acute care beds on the campus of Baptist Hospital and 60 new inpatient rehabilitation beds to Baptist Medical Park – Nine Mile. The enhanced bed capacity is a direct response to the increasing community need for inpatient acute care and inpatient rehabilitation beds in our region. Under the new approach, PAM Health and Baptist Health Care will develop a freestanding 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the Baptist Medical Park – Nine Mile campus, providing expanded capacity for specialized rehabilitation services. Baptist Hospital will retain the planned space in the Henderson Health Center, which will be converted into a 40-bed acute care hospital unit. “Our commitment to the Pensacola community has only grown stronger,” said Anthony Misitano, founder, chairman and chief executive officer, PAM Health. “When Baptist Health Care identified an urgent need for additional acute care capacity, we recognized an opportunity to think bigger. A freestanding, 60-bed hospital allows us to design a rehabilitation hospital without space constraints, featuring state-of-the-art therapy gyms and robust clinical programs that will serve as a true destination for patients recovering from serious injury or illness.” The addition of beds at the Baptist Hospital campus comes at a time when the need for inpatient care in the local area is increasingly high. The expanded unit will help provide care for more patients and support the growing health needs of the community. “Our community has a very clear need for additional inpatient acute care beds. This collaboration with PAM Health allows us to address critical capacity needs at Baptist

U.S. News evaluates hospitals across a broad range of specialties, procedures and conditions to help patients make informed decisions about their health care. Hospitals that earn a High Performing rating excel in areas such as patient outcomes, quality of care and other measures that matter most to patients and their families. “For more than three decades, U.S. News has been an invaluable guide for patients,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “High Performing ratings recognize hospitals that deliver exceptional outcomes in specific procedures and conditions, providing patients with a trusted measure of quality as they make decisions about their care.” These recognitions reflect Baptist Health Care’s ongoing commitment to clinical excellence and compassionate care across the communities it serves.

ICE FLYERS WELCOME BACK GOALTENDER RICO DIMATTEO FOR 2026-27 SEASON The Pensacola Ice Flyers announced today that the team has re-signed goaltender Rico DiMatteo for the 2026–27 season. DiMatteo returns to Pensacola after making his professional debut with the Ice Flyers during the 2025–26 season. The 6-foot-3 goaltender appeared in 16 games for Pensacola, posting a 10-4-0 record with a 2.84 goalsagainst average and a .915 save percentage. His strong start to the season earned him recognition as the SPHL Player of the Week following the opening weekend, when he stopped 33 shots in regulation and overtime before turning aside all six shooters in a shootout victory over Macon. "We're thrilled to have Rico back in Pensacola," said Head Coach Jeremy Gates. "Rico is a very talented goalie who has valuable experience and is the type of person looking continue to grow his game. We've seen his ability firsthand last season. He brings competitiveness and is an important part of our team as a goalie and person. I look forward to hearing his name announced at The Hangar in front of our great fans." Following his strong start in Pensacola, DiMatteo earned an opportunity at the next level when he was loaned to the ECHL's Rapid City Rush on December 26, 2025. He went on to make 12 appearances with Rapid City,

finishing his ECHL campaign with a 3.96 goalsagainst average and a .907 save percentage. The Brasher Falls, New York, native also gained valuable experience during his time in the ECHL, including a standout professional debut in which he stopped 55 of 57 shots for the Rush. DiMatteo's performance marked the highest save total by an ECHL goaltender in his first game that season and helped establish him as a reliable option in Rapid City's crease. Before turning professional, DiMatteo played NCAA Division I hockey at Northern Michigan University, Long Island University and the University of New Hampshire. During his senior season at New Hampshire, he appeared in eight games, posting a 2.53 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. He also earned two Hockey East Goaltender of the Week honors. After gaining experience at both the SPHL and ECHL levels during his first professional season, DiMatteo returns to Pensacola with another year of development under his belt and an opportunity to build on his strong rookie campaign. "I'm calm, patient and athletic," said DiMatteo. "My goal this season is to be the top goaltender in the SPHL." The 2026–27 season will mark DiMatteo's second professional season and his second campaign with the Ice Flyers.

SANTA ROSA COUNTY TO REFORMAT LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE TO IMPROVE LONG-TERM USABILITY Santa Rosa County is proposing an administrative reformatting of its Land Development Code to make the document easier to maintain and use in the future. This is not a rewrite of the Land Development Code, and no development regulations are changing. The proposed ordinance would repeal and replace the existing Land Development Code solely to address formatting and organizational issues. Currently, portions of the code, including the Table of Contents, rely on page numbers to help users locate information. Because the code is periodically amended, text can shift from one page to another, making those references inaccurate and requiring additional reformatting.

Under the proposed format, page numbers will be removed from the Table of Contents, and section numbers will be used as the primary way to identify and locate provisions. Section numbers will also be added to document footers to provide a consistent reference point even when the number of pages changes. Public Meetings The proposed ordinance will be considered by the Santa Rosa County Zoning Board at 5 pm Thursday, October 8, 2026, and by the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners at 5 pm Thursday, October 22, 2026. For questions or more information, contact Shawn Ward, Planning and Zoning Director, at ShawnW@santarosa.fl.gov or 850-981-7082.

SANTA ROSA COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES TO HOST FALL FEST ADOPTION EVENT SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10 Santa Rosa County Animal Services will celebrate the season with a Fall Fest Adoption Event, sponsored by Wicked Pirates, on Saturday, October 10, from 11 am to 3 pm at the shelter, located at 4451 Pine Forest Road in Milton. As part of the event, all adoptions will be just $10 for the day, allowing residents to find a new four-legged family member while helping shelter pets find loving homes. The event is also an opportunity for community members to learn more about getting involved with the animal community. In addition to meeting adoptable dogs and cats, attendees can enjoy a festive afternoon at the shelter featuring food and coffee vendors, local vendors and crafts and other activities.

Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck will be on-site and will provide free coffee to the first 50 attendees. Taste Atlas will also be serving up food, with additional vendors and crafts available throughout the event. “We’re excited to welcome the community to the shelter for a fun fall event and, hopefully, help some of our shelter pets find their families,” said Randy Lambert, Chief of Santa Rosa County Animal Services. “Events like this give people a chance to meet our adoptable pets while enjoying a fun afternoon with the community. We encourage anyone considering adding a pet to the family to stop by and see who might be waiting to meet them.” For more information about adoptable pets and Santa Rosa County Animal Services, visit santarosa.fl.gov/405/Search-Adoptable-Pets.

Hospital while investing together in a bigger vision for the rehabilitation needs of our community,” said Brett Aldridge, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Baptist Health Care. "By expanding both inpatient capacity and rehabilitation services, we are creating greater access to high-quality care for our growing region. We are grateful for a partner whose mission and values align with our commitment to serving this community." The new inpatient acute care beds at Baptist Hospital are expected to be available in the coming months. Additional details and timelines for the inpatient rehabilitation hospital at the Baptist Medical Park – Nine Mile campus will be announced soon. Summary Bullets for Reporter Reference: • Baptist Health Care and PAM Health are expanding their joint venture partnership. • The updated agreement revises a plan announced in early 2025. • The original plan called for a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital within the Henderson Health Center on the Baptist Hospital campus. • The revised plan includes development of a new freestanding 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the Baptist Medical Park – Nine Mile campus. • The new rehabilitation hospital will increase capacity for specialized inpatient rehabilitation services. • Baptist Hospital will retain the planned space in the Henderson Health Center. • The retained space will be converted into a new 40-bed acute care unit at Baptist Hospital. • Baptist Hospital's bed count will increase from 279 to 319. • The new acute care beds at Baptist Hospital are expected to open later this year. • Details and timelines for the rehabilitation hospital will be announced in the coming months.

FEMA ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $116 MILLION FOR FLORIDA RECOVERY FEMA is awarding more than $116 million to Florida for 88 projects that will accelerate disaster recovery and build resilience in communities. With this funding, President Donald J. Trump is keeping his promise to reform federal disaster support and ensure that taxpayer money is spent only on projects and programs that deliver safety and security to the American people. The state will receive more than $66 million through the Public Assistance program, which provides federal reimbursement to communities for debris removal, emergency protective measures taken to reduce or eliminate disaster impacts, and repair or rebuild damaged critical infrastructure. Public Assistance grants announced today include: Nearly $44 million for Manatee County for emergency response and debris removal, including more than 1.2 million cubic yards of vegetative and construction debris from roads, public property and rights-of-way following hurricanes Milton and Debby. More than $3.8 million for Lee County for debris removal and repairs to recreational facilities, including Bowditch Point Beach Park’s pier and boardwalk damaged by Hurricane Ian’s storm surge, high winds and debris. More than $1.8 million for Pinellas County for site inspections, damage assessments, permitting and code enforcement, along with emergency protective measures following recent hurricanes. More than $751,000 for the city of Sarasota for repairing damage at Indian Beach Park resulting from Hurricane Milton storm surge. More than $660,000 for the city of North Port to reimburse costs for police emergency response and measures that protected lives, public health and property during Hurricane Ian. Nearly $641,000 for Lee County Electric Cooperative to repair and replace Pine Island’s storm-damaged electric system, including poles, wires and transformers and other electrical infrastructure damaged by storm surge and flooding.

FEMA is also awarding the state more than $50 million for projects that will prevent, eliminate or reduce future disaster-related damage. This money is being distributed through FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Through this program, state, local or territory governments and Tribal Nations take proactive mitigation measures such as acquiring hazard-prone homes and businesses, adopting and enforcing building codes and standards, protecting against floods through elevations and drainage improvement projects, building safe rooms and upgrading utilities and infrastructure. Notable projects in Florida include: • More than $46.4 million to the state of Florida for cost-effective residential mitigation projects statewide, including work on 62 homes through elevations, property acquisitions, demolitions and reconstruction of eligible homes. • Nearly $840,000 for Pinellas County to plan and design a hurricane safe room with backup power at the Logan Utilities Operations Center in Largo. • More than $828,000 for the city of Tallahassee to provide a generator for backup power for the Tallahassee International Airport terminal. • More than $761,000 for Miami-Dade County to strengthen six fire stations against hurricane winds by protecting building openings and upgrading roofs to current high-wind standards. • More than $634,000 for the University of Miami to provide a generator for emergency backup power for the McKnight Building in Coral Gables. This funding is part of more than $781 million that FEMA announced for more than 490 projects nationwide. It is the latest example of the billions of dollars in disaster recovery provided by FEMA to support state and local communities as they work to rebuild from recent natural disasters.

A 10 am matinee will be added on Saturday, Oct. 10, to accommodate young audiences. Please note that there will be no 7:30 pm performance on Oct. 10. Audiences will be invited to come in costume as their favorite character and stay after the performance on Oct. 3 and Oct. 10 to meet and take pictures with characters onstage.

Bringing this production to life will be director Marci Duncan, head of the BFA acting program. She says, “Our Alice in Wonderland is bold, vibrant and full of surprises, but at its heart is a young person trying to find her voice in a world that keeps telling her who to be. We’re inviting audiences to lean into the unexpected, let their imaginations lead, and rediscover the joy of wondering, ‘What if?’” UWF Professor of Lighting and Scenic Design Connie Smith will design the set and lights, with Sarah Liffick as Technical Director. Student costume designer junior Aubrey Leger will design the costumes. “Diving into the world of Alice in Wonderland was such a joy,” says Leger. “I have loved incorporating fun whimsical styles with a glimpse of reality, and I can’t wait for everyone to see my costume designs.” Student sound designer senior Sean Travis will also compose original music for the production. General admission ticket prices will be $22 per person for adults, $18 per person for senior citizens and active military, $16 per person for non-UWF students and UWF faculty and staff and $9 for children and high school students. UWF students will be admitted free with their ArgoCard. You can buy tickets at the CFPA Box Office (Building 82).

RICK METZGER NAMED PRESIDENT AND CEO OF ASCENSION SACRED HEART PENSACOLA Rick Metzger, a healthcare executive and registered nurse who served as CEO of USA Health Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama, has been named president and chief executive officer of Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola, effective Oct. 12. He brings more than two decades of experience in patient care, hospital operations, quality and safety, and strategic growth. The appointment marks a return to Ascension for Metzger, who previously spent nearly seven years as vice president of operations and chief operating officer at Ascension Providence from 2016 to 2023. "Coming back to Ascension feels like a true homecoming," Metzger said. "At my core, I am a nurse and a servant leader, and connecting back to Ascension’s faith-based mission is deeply meaningful to me,” he said. “Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola has an exceptional legacy, and my primary focus will be building upon the strong foundation Will Condon established, expanding access to care and earning the trust of our dedicated physicians, associates, and community." Before coming to Sacred Heart, Metzger has served as CEO of USA Health Providence Hospital, a 349-bed acute care hospital and Level III trauma center in Mobile, Alabama, since June 2024, first as interim CEO and then as permanent CEO beginning in October 2024 Metzger led Providence through several major technology initiatives, including the transition to a new electronic medical record system. He also led a financial improvement

plan that achieved more than $10 million in operational savings and helped grow clinical services by building strong partnerships with physicians. His focus on quality and safety helped Providence improve its Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade from a C to a B in spring 2026. He succeeds Will Condon, who was recently appointed CEO of Ascension Sacred Heart Health System. "We are thrilled to welcome Rick back to lead Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola," Will said. "Rick brings a unique combination of frontline clinical insight as a registered nurse, proven operational leadership, and a steadfast commitment to our Mission. He understands what it means to lead within Ascension, and that will be invaluable as we continue to expand services and provide compassionate, high-quality care across our region." Metzger began his healthcare career when he was 19 as an OR orderly and went on to work in surgical technology, nursing, hospital operations and executive leadership. A Huntsville, Alabama, native, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and a Master of Management in Health Care from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management. In 2022, he completed Ascension’s Executive Ministry Leadership Formation program. Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola is home to the region’s only Level I Trauma Center and includes the main hospital campus, Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart and comprehensive outpatient facilities.

UWF PARTNERS WITH HOME BASE FLORIDA TO EXPAND MILITARY WELLNESS SUPPORT IN NORTHWEST FLORIDA The University of West Florida announced a new partnership with Home Base Florida, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program, bringing the organization’s Warrior Health and Fitness program to UWF’s Pensacola campus. UWF is only one of three universities across the nation to house this program that will expand access to community-based health, fitness and wellness support for veterans, service members and military families across Northwest Florida. “Strengthening UWF’s support for our military community has been a top priority of mine since becoming president,” said UWF President Manny Diaz Jr. “We are proud to partner with Home Base Florida to expand access to this important support for military and veterans in our community.” Warrior Health and Fitness is a free, 90-day wellness program designed to help participants improve their physical health and overall well-being through supervised exercise, nutrition education, stress management, coaching and community-based support. The program also serves as a gateway to additional Home Base services for those in need of support for invisible wounds, including post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety and traumatic brain injury. Warrior Health and Fitness participants will have access to a dedicated campus-based wellness space in Building 77 on UWF’s Pensacola campus where they can build strength, improve overall well-being and connect with peers who understand the unique experiences

of military life, with support from Home Base Florida. The space is adjacent to UWF’s Office of Military Services, creating a natural connection point for veterans, service members and military families already supported through the University’s military-focused programs and transition resources. “The Office of Military Services and Home Base are a natural partnership,” said Dr. Andrew Del Gaudio, executive director for UWF’s Office of Military Services. “We share a deep commitment to supporting our military and veteran community as they prepare for whatever comes next. Success for the next mission starts with building resiliency while building relationships and creating a community where people know they are supported.” Home Base Florida’s collaboration with UWF marks an important milestone in their continued expansion across Northwest Florida and reflects the organization’s commitment to working alongside trusted community partners to reach more veterans, service members and military families closer to home. “With more than six military installations in Northwest Florida, this region is home to a significant military community,” said Betsy Hart, Program Manager for Home Base Florida, a military spouse and Pensacola resident. “Home Base Florida’s Pensacola presence is designed to reduce barriers to care, strengthen local referral pathways and create accessible opportunities for healing, wellness and connection.”

ECUA TO BEGIN EMERGENCY REPLACEMENT OF 24-INCH FORCE MAIN ON MONTEIGNE DRIVE The Emerald Coast Utilities Authority will begin an emergency project next month to replace an existing 24-inch ductile iron force main along Monteigne Drive within the Pensacola city limits. Construction is anticipated to begin the week of Oct. 12, 2026 and is expected to continue for approximately 12 weeks, with completion targeted for early January 2027. The project will include the complete replacement of the existing force main along the following corridor: • Monteigne Drive: From Bay Cliff Estates Park, a City of Pensacola park, to Summit Boulevard • Summit Boulevard: From Monteigne Drive to Scenic Highway ECUA and its private contractor, Talcon Group, LLC, will install approximately 4,800 linear feet of new 24-inch PVC force main, along with gate valves, fittings, couplings and other related infrastructure.

Construction will require excavation within the public right-of-way, including roadway cuts and trenching behind the curb. Residents and motorists in the area should expect construction activity and associated impacts as crews work to install the new force main. No interruptions to water or sewer service are planned during construction. However, brief, temporary interruptions may be necessary in some instances. For example, a water service line or meter may need to be relocated if it conflicts with the new force main. Customers affected by any necessary service interruption will be notified individually as the need arises. All areas disturbed during construction will be restored to their original condition or better upon completion of the project. ECUA appreciates the residents’ patience and understanding throughout the emergency replacement process. A map showing the proposed locations for the 24-inch force main installations is provided below.

FPL HELPS ELIGIBLE SENIORS ACCESS BILL CREDITS AND WAYS TO SAVE

Pensacola International Airport has been awarded a $12,779,600 grant through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Voluntary Airport Low Emission Program to fund two projects designed to reduce emissions and improve local air quality. The combined award will support the installation of electric ground power and preconditioned air equipment at 15 passenger gates, as well as a new electric hydronic heating system serving the airport’s existing terminal and future five-gate concourse. “This investment allows us to modernize critical airport infrastructure while making a meaningful, long-term commitment to cleaner and more efficient operations,” Airport Executive Director Matt Coughlin said. “As Pensacola International Airport continues to grow, we are focused on ensuring that our facilities grow responsibly. These projects will improve the environment at our gates and support the next generation of air service at PNS.” Of the total award, $3,745,372 will fund the airport’s gate electrification and pre-conditioned air project. The project includes the installation of 14 electric 400-hertz ground power units and 15 pre-conditioned air units across the airport’s 10 existing gates and five new gates planned as part of the Terminal Expansion and Modernization Program. The new equipment will provide aircraft with electricity and conditioned air while

"It is so encouraging and inspiring to see corporate partners like FPL step up to help seniors in a real, tangible way. FPL is not standing on the sidelines waiting for someone else to step in; they are putting resources directly toward meaningful relief and practical solutions that can help older adults save," said Josh Newby, president and CEO of Council on Aging of West Florida. "Our aging network thanks FPL, I thank them, and most importantly, the seniors we serve thank them for being a strong partner in our communities." What is FPL Saving Steps? parked at the gate, allowing airlines to turn off aircraft auxiliary power units. This will reduce fuel consumption, aircraft emissions and noise while also replacing existing equipment that has reached the end of its useful life. The remaining $9,034,228 will support the installation of a new electric hydronic boiler system serving the existing terminal and future concourse. The project will replace 27 packaged gas-fired rooftop units with 19 hydronic air-handling units and associated terminal equipment using hydronic hot-water heating. By transitioning terminal heating from natural gas to an electric system, the project will eliminate the airport’s use of fossil fuels for terminal heating. Over the system’s anticipated 20-year useful life, the project is expected to reduce approximately 31 tons of carbon monoxide, 37 tons of nitrogen oxides and additional volatile organic compounds, sulfur oxides and particulate matter. The FAA’s Voluntary Airport Low Emission Program provides funding for eligible cleanair projects at commercial service airports. The program supports investments in low-emission vehicles, infrastructure and other technologies that reduce airport-related emissions. Both projects complement Pensacola International Airport’s broader Terminal Expansion and Modernization Program, which will add a new five-gate concourse and expand airport infrastructure to accommodate the region’s continued growth.

ESCAMBIA AND SANTA ROSA COUNTY PARTNER TO DEPLOY ESCA-ROSA REGIONAL REEFS Escambia County and Santa Rosa County are excited to announce the deployment of the Esca-Rosa Regional Reefs, a series of new artificial reef sites made possible by more than $1.1 million in combined grant funding and a multi-year partnership between the two counties. Artificial reef modules are being deployed to construct 69 patch reefs using 209 Florida limestone modules and 132 Grouper reefs. These new reefs are located within the eastern portion of the Escambia East Nearshore Artificial Reef site. The Escambia County Marine Resources Division, in coordination with Santa Rosa County Natural Resources, is directing the placement of the reefs by Walter Marine, Inc. of Orange Beach, Alabama, using Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Natural Resource Damage Assessment funding. Some of the concrete prefabricated artificial reef modules incorporate "microhabitat features" created by George Stone Technical College's Welding Program using repurposed metal signposts, giving them a second life as an underwater micro-habitat for marine life. The next phase of the project will include seeking permits for new artificial reef sites 1 mile offshore at Park East and Portofino public access sites in Escambia County,

in addition to planning for similar sites offshore near Navarre Beach that will ultimately stretch westward to meet Escambia County's sites. This regional reef project aligns with the Coastal Corridor Program implemented by the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida in partnership with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, with a $15 million allocation from the Florida Legislature to create and restore marine habitat along Florida's entire coastline. The partnership between Escambia County and Santa Rosa County helps advance coastal environmental stewardship goals and strengthens regional partnerships, while also providing additional habitats for marine life and new reef sites for recreational divers, boaters and anglers to explore. Artificial reef programs in Northwest Florida have demonstrated exceptional returns, with a regional study finding that reef-related activities generated $414 million in total economic output, supporting 8,136 jobs and $84 million in wages across Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton and Bay Counties. The annual recreational use value was estimated at $19.7 million, producing a discounted asset value of $656 million, which represents a benefit-to-cost ratio of 131:1.
