dventure is coming to town, bringing a fresh wave of inspiration to Pensacola. Returning for its sixth season, Mountainfilm on Tour will bring a curated selection of thought-provoking documentary films to Pensacola Little Theatre on January 17. Exploring themes aligned with Mountainfilm’s mission of using the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world, Mountainfilm on Tour showcases a selection of short films that share powerful stories of resilience, hope and transformation—spotlighting individuals and communities who rise above adversity with courage and creativity. Originating in Telluride, Colorado. in 1979, Mountainfilm is a nonprofit organization and documentary film festival that celebrates the stories of indomitable spirit and aims to inspire audiences through the power of film. The unique gathering blends film with art, speakers and discussions to foster connection and inspire real-world change. While the main festival was originally only held in Telluride, Mountainfilm began touring in 1999 to share its films with larger audiences in communities across the globe. “The Pensacola tour showcases a collection of culturally rich, adventure-packed and incredibly inspiring documentary films from the annual Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride,” Mountainfilm on Tour – Pensacola Co-Director Jacey Cosentino said. After experiencing the awe and beauty of the Mountainfilm Festival firsthand during a family trip to Telluride, Cosentino immediately

knew it was something that needed to come to Pensacola. In 2020, she teamed up with individuals in the community, including Healthy Gulf Florida/Alabama Coastal Organizer Christian Wagley, to bring the Mountainfilm on Tour event to Pensacola. Originally established to celebrate the mountains and outdoor adventure through short film screenings that inspire attendees to engage with the natural world, Mountainfilm is one of America’s longestrunning film festivals. Over the years, the festival's scope has expanded to include a wider range of films and speakers, but the core goal has remained the same—to use the power of film and ideas to educate, inspire and motivate action for a more liveable planet. What began as a three-day event featuring 27 films in a single theatre has grown into a four-day international gathering, showcasing more than 100 films across eight theatres and welcoming hundreds of special guests. Each year after the main festival in Telluride, Mountainfilm hits the road sharing a selection of the year's most inspiring short films with audiences across the world. The Pensacola tour will include a powerful lineup of films celebrating wild places, bold exploration and stories that push the limits of human grit. “We handpicked 12 to 13 short films from the main festival in Telluride to showcase for the Pensacola event that would not only resonate with, but also inspire the local community,” Cosentino said. “The films explore a variety of themes and topics, showcas-

ing inspirational stories that focus on community, diversity and the connection between people and wild places.” The Pensacola tour will kick off with a special screening of a short documentary film produced by local florist and owner of Fiore of Pensacola, Shannon Pallin. The film is called Follow The Flower, and it explores the life cycle of Alaskan peonies, highlighting the growers’ dedication and capturing how a single bloom has the ability to connect people from the farthest reaches of the earth. With screenings at festivals worldwide—including the Anchorage International Film Festival this past December—Pallin’s inspiring story of care, cultivation and connection is resonating with audiences around the globe. The Pensacola tour will host a collection of films that raise aware-

ness and funding for local environmental and community causes, with all ticket sale proceeds directly benefitting two nonprofits driving change in our community—the Pensacola & Perdido Bays Estuary Program and Healthy Gulf. From daring expeditions in wild corners of the world to heartfelt journeys that tap into the core of the human spirit, Mountainfilm on Tour features breathtaking filmmaking and perspectives that will stay with you long after the credits roll. “Through stories of resilience, exploration and community impact, the films serve to inspire audiences of all ages to explore new ideas and try new things,” Cosentino said. “The goal is for people to leave feeling inspired, and to open people’s minds and hearts to the world.” The Pensacola tour kicks off January 17 at the Pensacola Little Theater

at 400 S. Jefferson St. in downtown Pensacola. The doors open at 5 pm, with film screenings beginning at 6 pm. ESCAMBIA COUNTY EMS ENCOURAGES LEARNING CPR AS NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION

KEEP THE WREATH GREEN ENDS WITH 12 RED BULBS IN ESCAMBIA COUNTY

The New Year is here, and Escambia County EMS is encouraging residents to make learning CPR a top resolution for 2026. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, commonly known as CPR, is an emergency life-saving procedure performed when the heart stops beating. Knowing CPR can double or triple the chances of survival after cardiac arrest, according to the American Heart Association. CPR helps keep blood flowing in the body, extending the opportunity for a successful resuscitation once trained medical staff arrive. “As the Medical Director of Escambia County, I can say with full confidence that our EMS system has never been stronger,” Dr. Benjamin Abo said. “We are restoring pulses after a cardiac arrest at a higher rate than ever before. This success does not begin with EMS; it begins with the person who knew and performed CPR. This New Year’s, make a resolution that truly matters. Learn CPR and how to use an AED. You can be the difference between life and loss.” Escambia County EMS has more than quadrupled the success rate for getting a pulse back after cardiac arrest, jumping from 9.2% to 43.4% this year. The significant increase in the success rate is a result of the implementation of updated resuscitation protocols, which have been implemented at all levels of Escambia County EMS. CPR Stats from the American Heart Association: • More than 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur each year in the United States. • Less than half (46%) of bystanders will perform CPR. • Every minute counts; survival rates without CPR decrease by 10% as each minute passes. • More than one in three American adults (estimated 85.6 million) have more than one form of cardiovascular disease, also known as CVD. On average, someone dies of CVD every 37 seconds in the U.S. Another critical skill a person can learn is how to use an automated external defibrillator, known as an AED. An AED is used to treat sudden cardiac arrest by reading the heart’s rhythm and delivering an electric shock to reset it. Sign Up for Classes Today Escambia County EMS offers CPR and AED classes to the public. EMS employees teach the hands-on class, and students taking part in either course will gain a wealth of knowledge, learning the proper techniques of CPR and the use of an AED. The Heartsaver CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. The Heartsaver CPR AED course trains participants to give CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely and effective manner. This course reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). Escambia County EMS Accomplishments in 2025 2025 not only marked the 50th year of service for Escambia County EMS, but featured significant team and individual accomplishments: • On April 12, EMS hosted an open house, which provided a behind-the-scenes look at county EMS operations, including handson demonstrations, ambulances and facility tours, and one-on-one conversations with EMS staff and leadership. • From May 18-24, Escambia County EMS was recognized during EMS Week, which honored the hard-working men and women who devote their lives to providing life-saving critical care to those they serve. • After receiving 45% of the vote, Escambia County EMS won the Florida Sheriffs Association Fire & Rescue graphics contest with their submission of their blue ambulance stationed at Pensacola Beach.

At the conclusion of Keep the Wreath Green, Escambia County Fire Rescue placed 12 red bulbs on the wreaths between Dec. 1 and Dec. 31, 2025, with each red bulb representing a residential or commercial structure fire with damage. Escambia County Fire Rescue encourages residents to continue to practice fire safety every day and help prevent fires in their homes. ECFR added the 12th and final red bulb to the wreath following a structure fire Wednes-

• Escambia County EMS was busy during the Saturday performance of the Pensacola Beach Air Show, treating 115 patients at the mobile medical facility in the Casino Beach parking lot, including 65 patients with heatrelated illnesses. Due to prompt treatment by on-scene paramedics and EMTs, 102 patients were released and able to enjoy the air show. • On July 19, Paramedic Cheryl Taylor and EMT Karen Russell, along with the Ascension Sacred Heart Emergency and Trauma team, were recognized by the Pensacola Blue Wahoos for the life-saving care they provided to a patient who was struck by a drunk driver. • In August, Escambia County EMS became one of only seven EMS service providers in Florida to be recognized as Pediatric Ready Gold Tier for pediatric readiness, the highest level of pediatric readiness an organization can attain. • In September, Paramedic Supervisor Reid Jackson received the Emergency Services Award from the Pensacola chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. • Throughout the year, EMS took major steps forward in prehospital care by equipping every paramedic unit with state-of-the-art video laryngoscopes, reinforcing the department’s commitment to providing cuttingedge, life-saving care for the community. The new video laryngoscopes represent a significant advancement in airway management, giving paramedics enhanced visualization during intubation, especially in difficult or high-risk situations. • Escambia County EMS has increased its engagement with local community organizations, including Dr. Benjamin Abo and Supervisor Megan Poff being voted onto the Executive Board of the Emerald Coast Stroke Coalition. Dr. Abo was recently recognized by the Emerald Coast Stroke Coalition for his active engagement in stroke care. • To celebrate a year of accomplishments and 50 years of service, Escambia County EMS hosted its first-ever awards banquet on Nov. 8. The banquet recognized individual and team achievements throughout the year and honored those who retired in 2025. During the banquet, Logan Wagner was named Paramedic of the Year while Dalaina Hayes was named EMT of the Year. Additionally, Paramedic Wagner was named Paramedic of the Year by VFW Post 706. • Leading up to Thanksgiving, EMS Chief Chris Watts and Deputy Chief Chris Stephens attended the first-ever Third-Party EMS Administrative Summit in Daytona Beach. The one-of-a-kind event hosted EMS administrative and supervisory staff of third-party EMS organizations, teaching best practices and methods to improve emergency medical services. • Shortly after the summit in Daytona Beach, several Escambia County Public Safety employees attended the 34th Annual Surviving Trauma Conference in Pensacola Beach, which is an event designed to provide up-to-date information for practicing surgeons, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, family practitioners and other healthcare team members who provide care for trauma patients. • The Escambia County CORE program has successfully assisted more than 500 patients, reaching a major milestone in its mission to combat the opioid crisis and provide comprehensive care to individuals battling opioid addiction. • With the addition of Medical Director Dr. Benjamin Abo, extremely progressive and expansive patient care protocols were created and implemented, along with a variety of medications and procedures, including stocking antibiotics for treating sepsis, adding honey to all medical kits for children who inhaled a button battery and adding lifesaving cyanokits, meant for smoke inhalation patients.

YOUNG LAWYERS DIVISION PARTNERS WITH AYLSTOCK WITKIN KREIS AND OVERHOLTZ GIFT DRIVE Savannah Green is the Philanthropy Chair for the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Escambia Santa Rosa Bar Association. This holiday season, YLD partnered with local law firm, Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz (AWKO) to provide Christmas gifts for 15 local families (a total of 56 individuals!). AWKO sponsored the gift drive and YLD members and their friends and familymembers worked together to shop for the

gifts. The firms partnered with the Title 1/ Family Outreach Department of Escambia County School District that works with children and families facing homelessness and housing hardships to gather their Christmas wish-lists and coordinate gift delivery. YLD held a Holiday Party at Odd Colony to celebrate the success of the gift drive and had all attendees bring gift wrapping items to help wrap the gifts for the families.

The fire was aggressively attacked and brought under control by 5:12 a.m. One patient was treated and transported to an area hospital by Escambia County EMS. The structure is a total loss due to the significant damage. ECFR investigated and determined that a space heater caused the fire.

BLUE WAHOOS ANNOUNCE STAFF PROMOTIONS, ADDITIONS IN ADVANCE OF 2026 SEASON The Pensacola Blue Wahoos announced Tuesday a series of recent promotions and additions to their front office staff in advance of the 2026 season. Anthony Aspenson, TJ Johnson and Brandon Miller have been promoted to Assistant General Manager, and will oversee day-to-day operations of the club. Aspenson originally joined the organization in 2022 to lead the club’s creative services efforts, Johnson began as an intern in 2020 before taking on an operations leadership role in 2025, and Miller joined the Blue Wahoos in 2021 as a box office trainee before taking over ticketing and sales. Tim Mulroy joins the full-time front office staff as a Corporate Sales Executive after spending the past three seasons on the gameday promotions staff as an on-field emcee. He also served as the “man in the stands” for the Pensacola Pelicans for eight seasons prior to the arrival of the Blue Wahoos in 2012. Hannah Moret joins the full-time front office staff as a Group Sales Executive after serving as a group sales and community relations trainee during the 2025 season. A Talla-

hassee native, she graduated from Florida State University in 2024. Jackson Dietz joins the Blue Wahoos as a Ticket Operations Manager after spending the past five years with REVELxp, a premium hospitality and tailgating company. The Bradenton native graduated from Florida State University in 2022. Madison Alexander joins the Blue Wahoos as a Group Sales Executive with prior experience in ticketing and event operations with Rock The Country music festival, Professional Bull Riders, and The Sound Amphitheater in Mississippi. The Navarre native graduated from the University of South Alabama in 2025. The Blue Wahoos begin their 2026 season on Friday, April 3 as they welcome the Montgomery Biscuits, Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, to Blue Wahoos Stadium. THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES REFLECTS ON COLLECTIVE IMPACT FOR FLORIDA FAMILIES AND 2025 HIGHLIGHTS Today, the Florida Department of Children and Families spotlights milestones and celebrates outcomes achieved as a result of Governor Ron DeSantis’ leadership and the collective impact of many to protect, support, and empower Floridians and their families. “The results we are seeing for children and families across Florida are not by happenstance,” said Department Secretary Taylor N. Hatch. “They reflect years of intentional leadership by Governor DeSantis and First Lady DeSantis, strong partnerships in the Florida Legislature and local organizations, and a commitment to serving families as if they were our own. Every accomplishment achieved in 2025 represents a moment that mattered—a child kept safely at home, a family stabilized, or a life saved. We look forward to another year of building a legacy that is continually informed by the voices of those we serve.” Since 2019, Florida has sustained measurable improvements across child and family well-being, homelessness, behavioral health, and economic self-sufficiency. Florida’s deliberate and unrelenting focus on prevention, early intervention and targeted supports have contributed to the following outcomes: • A 47 percent reduction in children entering out-of-home care since 2019, reflecting strong family stabilization efforts and proactive supports. • Strategic investments in housing supports provided through a multitude of partners like the Managing Entities and the Continuums of Care, which saw a 308% increase in state funding since Fiscal Year (FY) 202223, leading to a decrease of 35% in homelessness in Florida, the largest decrease in homelessness of any state in 2024. • Nearly one third reduction in opioidrelated deaths for the most recent reporting period, calendar year 2023-2024, driven by expanded treatments and supports. • A 20 percent decrease in involuntary Baker Act examinations statewide from FY 20192020 to FY 2024-2025. • Reductions in Floridians’ reliance on government assistance, including a decrease of 6 percent for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or food assistance, 43 percent for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families or cash assistance, and 16 percent for Medicaid during calendar year 2025. • More than 33,000 participants of Hope Florida reduced or no longer needed public assistance, generating an estimated $128 million in annual savings. Protecting Florida’s Most Vulnerable and Supporting Strong, Resilient Families Child Protection and Wellbeing • More than 240 missing and endangered youth were safely recovered and provided with support and placement coordination through four major multi-agency missing youth recovery operations—Operations Dragon Eye, Home for the Holidays, Northern Lights, and the Northeast Florida Child Rescue Mission. ○ The Department’s Human Trafficking Team, Missing Child Unit, Regional Criminal Justice Coordinators, Child Protective Investigators, Community Based Care organizations, Managing Entities, and providers from across the state partnered with the U.S. Marshals, the Office of the Attorney General, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, and the National Child Protection Task Force. • Florida continued to see major improvements in child safety and permanency throughout 2025: ○ Children entering out-of-home care decreased to 7,575, down from 8,072 in FY 2023-2024. ○ The number of children currently in outof-home care decreased from 17,012 to 14,567. ○ Over 93 percent of children did not re-enter care within 12 months of achieving permanency and permanency achieved within 12 months increased from 8 percent to 31.8 percent. ○ This progress reflects more children growing up in stable environments and families receiving the right supports at the right time. Advancements Informed, Created and Guided by Those with Lived Experience • In 2025, the Department launched the Statewide Youth Advisory Board, a new

youth-led group made up of youth and young adults, created to elevate and honor the voices of those with lived experience in Florida’s child welfare system. • This year, the Department launched a new Adopt Florida website, enhancing the adoption journey by streamlining the adoption process and connecting more children with permanent families by utilizing and optimizing available resources. Homelessness Reduction In 2025, Florida made important progress in reducing homelessness even as the state’s population continued to grow. Overall homelessness dropped by more than 9 percent, and the number of people living without shelter, such as on the streets or in cars, fell by nearly 19 percent. Homelessness among Florida’s veterans also decreased by nearly 19 percent. Despite the ongoing population growth, these declines in homelessness demonstrate that targeted housing programs and support services are helping more people find stable places to live. Fortifying Crisis Prevention and Behavioral Health Supports • Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORE) Network Currently operating in 47 counties, the CORE Network, an innovative, holistic recovery network launched under Governor Desantis’ leadership in 2022, continues to expand its reach and impact. • In FY 2024-2025, the CORE Network: ○ Served 28,470 individuals with Opioid Use Disorder. ○ Provided 17,555 individuals with Medication-Assisted Treatment. ○ Responded to more than 55,900 overdose-related calls, with more than 17,000 specifically tied to Opioid Use Disorder and reversing an overdose with naloxone on 16,988 of those calls. • Since 2022, 133 student The Facts. Your Future. assemblies have been held, reaching 61,080 students in partnership with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, providing an interactive and engaging approach to ensure our next generation is informed about the risks and challenges they may face. ○ In June 2025, more than $5 million, was awarded to five local non-profit entities across 50 counties to expand prevention initiatives. ○ From 2019 to 2025, nicotine vaping and marijuana vaping declined by 4 and 4.6 percentage points, respectively. ○ The number of students reporting that they felt “depressed or sad most days”, decreased from 47.3 percent in 2022 to 37.3 percent in 2025. • During FY 2024-2025, Florida’s 988 Lifeline received 181,056 contacts, a 17 percent increase from the prior fiscal year. More than 1,374 in-progress suicide attempts were de-escalated, with 100 percent of individuals reaching care safely. • During FY 2024-2025, Florida Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) teams served more than 4,100 individuals, with more than 525,200 encounters having occurred, maintaining 3 percent housing stability, with 45.3 percent continuing to live independently and 81 percent of individuals served maintained or improved their level of functioning. • Family Intensive Treatment (FIT) teams served more than 1,700 families at risk for out of home care, and after receiving FIT services, 79 percent of families did not need out of home care. Modernizing Technology Systems and Innovation • The Department deployed a new automated call center initiative, responding to more than 200,000 inquiries and allowing staff to prioritize urgent, complex cases during the recent federal shutdown to assist Floridians with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. • The Comprehensive Child Welfare Information System modernization project advanced toward full implementation, strengthening data integration and modernizing the statewide child welfare information system. The Department is grateful for the leadership of Governor DeSantis, valuable partners, and the incredible families we work to serve each day. As we look towards 2026, we are encouraged by progress made and motivated by the opportunities that lie ahead.
