IMPACT 100 PENSACOLA BAY AREA

ANNOUNCES 2025 GRANT RECIPIENTS

MPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area announced the 12 grant recipients selected for 2025 during their Annual Meeting on October 19 at the Hilton on Pensacola Beach. Each of the 12 nonprofit organizations will receive a grant of $103,500 from the members of IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area. IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area, Inc. is an organization of philanthropic-minded women committed to improving their community by providing substantial grants to nonprofit organizations in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. “IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area is thrilled to select these 12 remarkable organizations as our 2025 grant recipients thanks to the contributions of our members,” IMPACT100 Pensacola Bay Area President Martha Holden said. “Each of these nonprofits is making an incredible impact in our community, and we are honored to support their efforts in creating meaningful change. We look forward to seeing how these projects will touch the lives of so many in the coming year.” With 1,242 members in 2025, IMPACT 100 was able to award 12 grants totaling more than $100,000 each to deserving nonprofit organizations in our community for a total impact of over $1.2 million. Since its inception, IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area has awarded 177 grants totaling more than $18.7 million to worthy nonprofits serving Pensacola Bay Area communities and contributed over $31 million to Escambia and Santa Rosa economies. IMPACT 100 members contribute more than $1 million annually in direct grants to nonprofit organizations serving the two counties. The organizations purchase goods and services from local businesses, creating further contributions through taxes and other indirect and induced spending. Membership is open to any woman, age 18 or older, who makes an annual tax-deductible donation (membership fee) of $1,000 by March 1 of any calendar year, with the entire contribution used to fund grants. The 2025 grant award recipients selected by IMPACT 100’s members are as follows: Arts, Culture & History Greater Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, Inc. Project: Drumroll, Please: The Sound of a New Century The mission of the organiza-

tion is to promote the well-being of the Greater Pensacola community through excellence in live symphonic music and lifelong learning through engaging musical activities. The proposed project is to purchase essential instruments, including a set of four professional timpani, a vibraphone, a celesta, a digital keyboard with case and music stand lights to be used for decades. Currently, the symphony relies on instruments that are borrowed, outdated or in poor condition. The funds will be used for a timpani four-drum set, vibraphone, celesta, keyboard with keyboard case and music stand lights. Pace Band Boosters, Inc. Project: Every Note Matters: Powering the Next Generation of Musicians The mission of the organization is to support each member of the Pace High School Band to achieve the core values of focus, fundamentals, consistency, passion, positivity and family as they prepare for graduation and their future. The proposed project is to replace aging instruments, equipment and tools that have up to 30 years of constant use. Many band members would otherwise not have the financial means for a personal instrument. The funds will be used for marching brass instruments, percussion instruments and carriers, Color Guard uniforms and garment bags and a utility vehicle to be used as a hydration station. Education Children’s Home Society of Florida Project: W.A.V.E. (Warriors Achieving, Valuing and Exploring) The mission of the organization is to build bridges to success for children. The proposed project is to implement an on-campus, after-school academic enrichment program at Bellview Middle School for up to 120 students. Focusing on students performing below grade levels in reading and math, the program will engage students in reading and math instruction, learning activities and hands-on experiences, while providing them with meals and transportation home at no cost. The funds will be used for partial payroll costs for two staff members, as well as tutors, student supplies, positive behavioral rewards, a series of enrichment events and gas. Escambia County School Readiness Coalition, Inc. Project: Classroom on Wheels The mission of the organization is to identify and meet the needs

of children and families to lay the foundation for lifetime success. The proposed project is to create a Classroom on Wheels by converting a cargo van into a mobile library and learning center to bring awareness about the importance of early learning and child development, while also providing practical learning activities for families to do with their children. The funds will be used for a customized cargo van, the safety and office equipment needed for the mobile classroom conversion and educational materials and supplies with a focus on sensory, visual, auditory and cognitive learning. Environment & Recreation Greater Pensacola Junior Golf Association, Inc. (dba First Tee Gulf Coast) Project: Truly Impacting Warrington Youth The mission of the organization is to enable kids and teens to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges utilizing nine core values. The proposed project is to expand its program for Warrington youth development by providing transportation to a zero-cost, five-day-a-week afterschool golf and life skills programming for at-need youth, along with new storage space to house essential equipment and supplies. The funds will be used for the purchase of a 15-passenger Sprinter van with maintenance contract, framing and roofing materials, labor and scholarships for 100 youth. Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida, Inc. Project: Moveable Habitats, Meaningful Messages The mission of the organization is to mobilize and direct public, private and human resources to provide care, create natural habitats and promote wildlife preservation through education. The proposed project is to improve preparedness and response to frequent flooding events at the facility through two critical purchases: moveable habitats to expand their current wildlife hospital capacity and updated signage to improve public engagement. The funds will be used for construction materials, enclosures and habitat structures, animal enrichment and handling equipment, site preparation and an electrician.

Family Legal Services of North Florida, Inc. Project: Equal Access Express The mission of the organization is to advocate for improved quality of life through high-caliber civil legal assistance for those unable to otherwise access such services. The proposed project is a mobile legal services unit to increase access to free critical legal services for those who may not know it exists, and for those that may not have physical access to it. The Equal Access Express, a new transit van equipped for accessibility and on-site service delivery, will travel to reach those living in rural areas or with limited transportation or mobility. The funds will be used for a new, full-size accessible transit van with built-in office equipment, retractable awning, and vehicle insurance. Wesley Haven Villa, Inc Project: Rolling with a Purpose– Connecting Seniors to Care and Community The mission of the organization is to enrich the lives of older adults and all those who serve them in faith-based communities. The proposed project is a transportation initiative designed to enhance resident mobility, safety and independence. Together, the improvements will expand transportation options, ease family concerns and help residents stay connected to the people, places and experiences that enrich their lives. The funds will be used for a converted van with wheelchair lift, a six-person street-legal golf cart and the replacement of the aging lift on a 14-passenger community bus. Wounded Veterans Relief Fund, Inc. Project: Veteran Family Homelessness Prevention The mission of the organization is to provide urgent financial assistance and critical dental care for eligible wounded and service-disabled Florida veterans. The proposed project is to prevent veteran homelessness and provide housing for veterans who are currently homeless in the Pensacola area through targeted interventions such as rental assistance, emergency housing repairs, case management and connections to local resources to help address the root causes of housing instability. The funds will be used for rental assistance to prevent eviction or displacement, utility assistance to restore or maintain service, temporary lodging expenses and partial salary for a case worker.

Health & Wellness Community Organizations Active in Disaster, Inc. Project: BRACE Mobile Support and Resiliency Unit The mission of the organization is to create community disaster resiliency through public-private partnerships to educate, train and engage all stakeholders. The proposed project is to enable transport of people and gear for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) simulations, deliver Fire Corps members and supplies during fires and support participation in community events. The funds will be used for the purchase of a new Chevrolet Suburban with 4-wheel drive and trailer package, a vehicle wrap, 75 CERT backpacks and shirts, marketing and promotion. Feeding the Gulf Coast Project: Nutrition Equals Seniors Thriving The mission of the organization is to fight hunger through community partnerships and programs by creating access to nutritious food and resources for those facing poverty, crisis or disaster. The proposed project is to expand its senior nutrition program, NEST (Nutrition Equals Seniors Thriving), by providing 2,100 nutritious food boxes to 175 seniors over the course of 12 months and upgrade warehouse equipment, including a forklift to support the program’s growth. The funds will be used for a forklift, battery, charger and warranty and the purchase and distribution of NEST boxes. Gulf Coast Kid’s House, Inc. Project: Healing House and Garden The mission of the organization is to end child abuse and heal families through collaborative intervention, family support and prevention education. The proposed project is to build a therapeutic garden for the children and families who have been impacted by the trauma of child abuse in Escambia County. Gardens are incredibly soothing for people whose nervous systems are on high alert from trauma as well as offer children and their families ways to control their environment, after so many have felt out of control. The funds will be used for plant materials, concrete walkways and fountain wall, fencing, site prep and irrigation. ECFR ADDS FOURTH BULB ON WREATH DURING KEEP THE WREATH GREEN

ASCENSION SACRED HEART FOUNDATION TO HOST THE BAY GALA: MIDNIGHT MASQUERADE

Escambia County Fire Rescue has added the fourth red bulb to the "Keep the Wreath Green" wreath in 2025 following a multi-residential structure fire involving a commercial business on Saturday, Dec. 13. Escambia County Fire Rescue responded to a multi-residential structure fire involving a commercial business at 4:54 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 in the 3300 block of Mobile Highway. Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy smoke showing from a two-story apartment complex that included a laundromat and grocery store on the first floor. Firefighters quickly located and extinguished the fire in an apartment kitchen, preventing a total loss of the apartment unit and additional damage to other units. Despite the rapid response by ECFR, the occupants will be displaced until repairs are completed. The grocery store on the first floor will also require repairs due to water damage. There were no injuries or fatalities. ECFR conducted the investigation and determined the cause to be an acciden-

Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation will host their annual gala, Midnight Masquerade, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 6-10 p.m. at the Boardwalk Hotel Convention Center. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Ascension Sacred Heart Bay Hospital’s Level II Trauma Department. “In 2024, we had nearly 2,000 patients who needed trauma care in our community, and we will likely surpass that number in 2025,” said Robin Godwin, President and CEO of Sacred Heart Bay. “We are the only hospital in the area to provide this life-saving care and the community’s support will help us continue to grow this program.” Guests will be greeted upon arrival with complimentary valet, courtesy of Encompass Health, as well as a glass of champagne, sponsored by Emerald Coast Hospice. Balloon décor will outfit the main entrance courtesy of Emergency Power Source Solutions, while inside, the space will be elegantly filled with florals and masquerade decor, sponsored by Vituity. Guests will check in at Nation's Best Family Healthcare registration table before entering the main event space, where they’ll be welcomed by various live aerial performers, sponsored by Cardiovascular Institute of Northwest Florida. The evening will kick off with a cocktail hour, sponsored by Hand Arendall Harrison Sale, featuring hors d'oeuvres and cocktails served from the Carter Platt PLLC Bar and the Engineered Cooling Services Bar. VIP sponsors and guests will delight in a private cocktail pre-party, courtesy of Jim and Nadia Smallwood, featuring hors d'oeuvres and unlimited cocktails. Attendees will then make their way into the grand ballroom for a multi-course, seated dinner presented by Creative Printing of Bay County Inc., Hello Credit Union, and finished off with dessert presented by Clarity Mental Health. Throughout dinner, attendees will hear from various speakers, including doctors, hospital leaders, and inspiring patients whose lives have all been impacted by Sacred Heart Bay. The elegant celebration will continue into the night with dancing and live music from Az Izz, courtesy of the Chapman Family. Attendees will also have the opportunity to commemorate the evening in the photo booth, sponsored by Emerald Coast Hospice, or the 360° photo booth, courtesy of the Panama City Symphony. There will be multiple fundraising opportunities throughout the evening with all proceeds benefiting Sacred Heart Bay Hospi-

tal cooking-related fire. The American Red Cross has provided temporary housing to the displaced occupants. Additional assistance during the response was provided by Escambia County EMS, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Power & Light, and Fire and Emergency Services Gulf Coast Ladder 34. During the month-long "Keep the Wreath Green" fire safety campaign, five-foot wreaths will be on display at 18 county fire stations and five city fire stations, as well as Escambia County's Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building downtown, the Escambia County Public Safety Building, Pensacola City Hall and Cordova Mall. Each time firefighters respond to a residential or commercial fire with damage, a green light bulb will be replaced with a red one to remind citizens of the dangers posed by fires in residential and commercial buildings. Escambia County Fire Rescue would like to encourage residents to practice space heater safety and know the potential risks associated with home heating equipment.

Do not respond to these fraudulent messages, pay the attached invoices, or click any links. These emails are not legitimate and are not associated with Escambia County Building Services. Escambia County Building Services will never ask for payment via an email link, credit

card, or wire transfer. Escambia County only accepts contractor license payments via cash or check. GREATER PENSACOLA CHAMBER UNVEILS 2026 PRIORITIES AT ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE LUNCHEON The Greater Chamber of Commerce unveiled it’s 2026 legislative priorities at its annual Legislative Luncheon. The luncheon featured a preview of the upcoming session presented by business lobbyist Darrick McGhee. McGhee lobbies for business organizations Florida’s Great Northwest, the Florida Chamber, and the Florida Retail Federation. McGhee covered the key topics that will be debated during the 2026 legislative session including Florda’s budget, property tax reform, and workforce development. He also shared insights on the end of Governor Ron Desantis’ tenure and the upcoming race for Florida Governor in 2026. Chamber Board Member Ruthie Noel emceed the event and unveiled the Greater Pensacola Chamber’s legislative priorities for the upcoming session. “This year’s legislative priorities reflect the issues our business community tells us matter most: Workforce development, childcare access,

affordable housing, transportation, and a fair tax structure,” said Noel. “As the leading voice for business in Pensacola, the Chamber is committed to advocating for policies that strengthen our regional economy and support the long-term success of employers and families alike.” The 2026 Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce legislative priorities are: • Support for Regional Transportation Projects • Initiatives to Improve Childcare Access and Affordability • Support Workforce Development Initiatives • Ensure Property Tax Reform Does Not Lead to an Increase in Business Taxes • Support Affordable Housing Initiatives, Permitting, and Insurance Reforms The Greater Pensacola Chamber will be providing regular updates on these priorities and other key issues throughout session.

MOUNTAINFILM ON TOUR COMES TO PENSACOLA LITTLE THEATRE ON JAN. 17 Mountainfilm on Tour brings a selection of culturally rich, adventure-packed and incredibly inspiring documentary films curated from the Mountainfilm festival in Telluride, Colorado. The tour will visit Pensacola at the Pensacola Little Theatre on Saturday January 17 with films that explore themes connected to Mountainfilm’s mission of using the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world. Mountainfilm on Tour in Pensacola is hosted by Gulf Coast Film Festival in partnership with a collection of local sponsors that include the Edward Jones Cosentino Wealth Management Team and Reboot and Co. This year’s event is the sixth for Mountainfilm on Tour – Pensacola, which hosts an inspiring collection of films to raise awareness and funding for environmental and community causes, including the nonprofit organizations Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program and Healthy Gulf.

The show kicks off on January 17 with doors opening at 5:00 pm, and films beginning at 6:00 pm. Tickets for Mountainfilm on Tour in Pensacola can be purchased online. UWF RESEARCHERS ADVANCE AI TOOLS FOR WILDFIRE DAMAGE MAPPING AND ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING Researchers at the University of West Florida have introduced a new benchmark dataset and evaluation of artificial intelligence methods that could greatly improve how wildfire damage is mapped and monitored at scale. The study, led by Valeria Martin, a Ph.D. student in the intelligent systems and robotics program, introduces CalFireSeg-50, a dataset built from satellite imagery and data from 50 of California’s largest wildfires between 2019 and 2023. Martin collaborated with Dr. Brent Venable, director of the intelligent systems and robotics doctoral program, and Dr. Derek Morgan, associate professor of earth and environmental sciences at UWF, to teach AI systems how to recognize signs of wildfire damage. To do this, the team created a large collection of satellite images — essentially showing the AI what wildfire damage looks like. By giving the AI many examples, it learns patterns and becomes better at identifying fire-damaged areas in new images. “This project showcases how advanced GeoAI techniques can meaningfully support environmental monitoring,” said Dr. Brent

Venable, director of the intelligent systems and robotics doctoral program. “Valeria’s exceptional work demonstrates the power of interdisciplinary research and reflects the innovative spirit of the Intelligent Systems and Robotics doctoral program.” This benchmark can also help models identify where fires burn the hottest, helping emergency responders understand how wildfires spread and quickly pinpoint high-priority zones. The datasets and detailed maps of wildfire damage can also support other work, like tracking vegetation recovery after a wildfire. “By pairing satellite data with deep-learning models, we can detect wildfire damage with high accuracy,” Martin said. “The insights from this work can support emergency response, environmental monitoring and long-term recovery planning.” Martin recently presented the research at the 13th ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
