Meals on the Move W

hat’s every foodie’s favorite thing? Delicious and affordable meals that move on wheels. Since Jan. 7, when the City of Pensacola teamed up with Pensacola Cooks Kitchen to bring mobile food vendors to the City Hall parking lot, the back corner of the lot (at the intersection of Spring and Main streets) has become a gathering for eager food lovers and food trucks alike. This month, eight trucks will be featured at City Hall Wednesdays through Saturdays for breakfast and/or lunch: Beachy Barista, Busy Bee, Cajun Meat Train, DogOn-It, Jordan Valley, Old King Colbert, Pensacola Cooks Mobile Kitchen, and Warriors Wagon. To find out when your favorite food truck will be making rounds, keep up to date with the monthly food truck schedule at cityofpensacola.com By Dawn Gresko The Beachy Barista Need that morning caffeine fix? The Beachy Barista recognizes that need and knows just what you like. The beachinspired mobile coffee shop is offering all the best selections of a traditional coffee barre at prices that won’t break your wallet. The truck doesn’t just have a theme for its exterior: visit the truck often to see the servers dress in different themes each day. Choose to take your coffee hot or iced at 12-, 16- to 20 oz. Try a Beachy coffee black or with cream, or a blended Beachino— the choice is yours. For those who aren’t coffee lovers, don’t fret: Beachy Barista offers chilly fruit smoothies (four berry, strawberry and mango), as well as hot chocolate. Find out where Beachy Barista is heading to next by checking out their Facebook page, or calling 423-310-3093. Busy Bee Want all the tastes of Southern comfort food in one quick stop? Then there’s no better place to be than at the window of Busy Bee Al Fresco food truck. From stocking up on hearty sides like potato salad and baked beans to ordering your favorite BBQ meat, there’s plenty of reasons to make Busy Bee your next stop for lunch. Crowd favorites include Grandmother’s fried chicken, pork chops and fried fish, but you’re equally guaranteed to enjoy pulled pork sandwiches and homemade hamburgers with fries. Busy Bee is also known for its chicken wings, which come in orders of five or 10 pieces, and flavors include: battered, hot, mild, lemon pepper and barbeque. For the full menu visit Busy Bee Facebook page, or call 850-291-3486. Cajun Meat Train Climb aboard the Cajun Meat Train for your fill of Cajun cooking and BBQ staples. While the Train travels frequently through Gulf Breeze and Navarre, you might also spot the truck parked near events like the upcoming Grand Mardi Gras Parade in Downtown Pensacola. The truck also offers catering to local businesses, parties and other special events. The majority of meat marinades and sides are made from scratch, and the andouille sausage is housemade from the curing and stuffed to being slow smoked in pecan wood. That being said, traditional Cajun dishes and crowd pleasers include gumbo, boudin, shrimp etouffee, and signature New Orleans-inspired red beans and rice. Stay tuned to Cajun Meat Train’s Facebook page for the latest updates on menu and where the truck will be stationed next, or call 850-382-2626.

Dog-On-It Looking for one of the best hotdog joints in Pensacola? Dog-On-It has what you’re looking for and more. In addition to specializing in great tasting hotdogs, Dog-On-It offers Cuban sandwiches for lunch, as well as coffee and donuts for a quick breakfast guaranteed to hit the spot. Although you can usually find Dog-On-It surfing around the beach in Perdido Key, the truck has been making waves at City Hall. Bring yourself, a group and/or the kids next time you’re craving a juicy frank. Want to know more about the menu at Dog-On-It? Call them at 850-607-0770, or email your questions to dogonithotdogs@ yahoo.com. Jordan Valley The Jordan Valley food truck may be small but it offers all the big flavors of the Mediterranean. Three years ago, Tommy Ghboun decided it was time to get the word out about Jordan Valley’s Downtown restaurant and decided to try something new by starting a food truck. Gyros and grape leaves are popular orders, and most of the special spices and meats come from the nearby cities of Jacksonville and Atlanta. In addition to its days at City Hall, you can find the truck at events, such as Movies at the Maritime and Gallery Nights in Downtown Pensacola. If you like what you taste, don’t forget Jordan Valley provides catering services for any private events from weddings to graduation parties. For more on what Jordan Valley offers, call 850450-1761. Old King Colbert Enjoy made-from-scratch specialty waffles that are cooked using 100 percent organic ingredients at Old King Colbert food truck. Specialty waffles include those with sweet flavors like the Old Trusty (chocolate chip batter topped with strawberries and whip cream), or savory options like the Gouda Troppa (garlic, bacon and parsley batter topped with toasted gouda cheese and even more bacon). In addition to frequenting the Imogene Theatre in Milton, Old King Colbert can be found outside various local businesses like Game Stop and Guitar Center. Follow the Old King Colbert Facebook page for the latest on routes, locations and events where you can find the signature green truck. For a bit of added fun on your food break, check out Old King Colbert’s “bounty board,” where they post trivia questions that (if answered correctly) can score you discounts on your next meal. To learn more about the offerings at Old King Colbert, call 850-530-7433.

Pensacola Cooks Mobile Kitchen Everyone’s favorite Pensacola Cooks Kitchen has gone mobile. Prepare to find all your goto entrees and sides like the Best Ever BLT, chicken adobo, handmade potato chips, and so much more. The locally owned and operated food truck uses fresh, locally-sourced ingredients—so when you buy from Pensacola Cooks Mobile Kitchen, you’re supporting local. If you’re tired of packing the same lunch, switch things up by discovering a dish from the mobile kitchen that will agree

with your stomach as well as your lunch-money stipend. If you have special dietary needs, ask the chef what he or she might recommend from the menu. Stay up to date with Pensacola Cooks Mobile Kitchen by visiting their Facebook page, or inquire about their menu and specials at 850456-0743. Warriors Wagon The churrasco-style grill at Warriors Wagon not only shows support for our troops, but, also supports the use of churrasco—a Spanish/South American term that refers to the method of

grilling meat on a wood for charcoal fire. In addition to frequenting the local Hurlburt and Eglin bases, the truck will be making itself at home in the City Hall parking lot this month For that reason, popular dishes on the menu include hamburgers with candied jalapenos, as well as shrimp and sausage tacos. If you’re looking for something a little different, try the chili, gumbo, or black bean stew— feijoda. Don’t forget to try Ruth’s Banana Pudding Ice Cream for dessert.. If there’s more you’re wondering about Warriors Wagon, call 850-737-1371 or visit warriorswagon.com.
