Get Jazzy for Justice at Foo Foo Fest By Dawn Gresko
The Legal Services of North Florida (LSNF) is proud to announce Jazz for Justice will be joining the Foo Foo Fest on Sunday, Nov. 15, from 12 to 3 pm in the SOGO District of Downtown Pensacola. “There’s no need to get dressed up,” said Mary Dekle, resource developer at LSNF. “Come as you are and be prepared to have marvelous fun dancing in the streets. We’ll have great music that really gets your toes tapping.” LSNF has been serving the residents of north Florida for nearly 40 years. For 19 years, Jazz for Justice has been the LSNF’s signature fundraising event. All proceeds go toward providing civil legal representation to domestic violence victims, the elderly, children and poverty-level families in danger of losing their homes. In total, Jazz for Justice has raised over $525,000 to enable the LSNF to continue their important work. Sponsors for the Pensacola event include Bay County Bar Association, Paul Schofield Law Firm, Roly Poly, Levin Law Firm, attorneys Will Nelson and Jason Cromey, Phillip Igney, Beggs & Lane RLLP, Stevenson Klotz, Valerie Prevatte P.A., Bodacious, Innisfree, and Blues Angel Music. Other sponsors are Hall, Prangle & Schooveld LLC, North Republic Relations, Cox Communications, News 1620, Cat Country 98.7 and, of course, the Foo Foo Festival. Jazz for Justice has been up and running in 16 counties across northwest Florida, but this is the first year the event will grace the streets of Downtown Pensacola with performances by 20 musicians and four groups. Listen for Chicago blues-style sounds from Randall “Big Daddy” Webster & Red Hot Java, some light and breezy jazz by Caravan, and the UWF Jazz Combo. Other event attractions include First City Art Center’s glass blowing presentation, a silent auction, as well as food and beverages supplied by the Bodacious family of shops along with other SOGO merchants. The UWF Jazz Combo will kick off at noon followed by Caravan at 1 pm and Randall “Big Daddy” Webster & Red Hot Java at 2 pm. “We applied for a grant from the Foo Foo Festival in April of 2015,” said Dekle. “In June, we received word that we had been accepted into the festival with a grant of $7,550. We have been planning for the event ever since.” LSNF has collaborated with the City of Pensacola, the Bodacious family of shops, and other SOGO merchants for streets closures and staging along South Palafox Street between Zaragossa and Main.
