The Ronald McDonald House Expands its Reach By the summer of 2019, families of sick and injured children will able to sleep, eat, shower, do laundry, use a computer and relax mere steps away from the hospital bedside, thanks to the Ronald McDonald Family Room coming to the new Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida strives to provide the best homeaway-from-home and source of a respite for children and the families of children suffering a medical crisis. Since opening its doors in 1984, the Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Florida has been a lifeline of hope for families. Construction of the new fourstory children’s hospital began in June on the Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola campus. The new children’s hospital is expected to open in 2019. In addition to the Ronald McDonald House currently on the Sacred Heart campus, the Ronald McDonald Family Room inside the new children’s hospital will feature a large, open living room and dining room, full kitchen, shower room, laundry room, computer area, quiet room for families who receive upsetting news and need privacy for processing a diagnosis or making a phone call, and a playroom specifically for patients’ siblings. The new space will also feature three bedrooms and bathrooms to provide overnight accommodations in emergency situations when families need to be seconds away from children who are in critical condition. “Ronald McDonald House has been a vital partner of The Children’s Hospital since the first
House opened in 1984,” said Henry Stovall, president of Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola and The Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart. “They provide an integral part in care for children and families.” The Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart is a 117bed facility that serves as the only children’s hospital in Northwest Florida. The Children’s Hospital offers a wide range of services to meet all of a child’s medical needs, from a pediatric emergency room and neonatal intensive care unit to pediatric intensive care, cancer care, rehabilitation and a medical staff of more than 120 board-certified physicians across 28 pediatric specialties. The Children’s Hospital provides quality, compassionate care to children, regardless of their parents’ ability to pay. “The new Family Room is the next step in our relationship, and it is a much-needed resource, since the current House is often at capacity. Plus, parents of our most severely ill children – those who have been in a traumatic accident, need emergency surgery, are experiencing medical complications or are undergoing treatment for cancer – often don’t want to leave the bedside or the unit,” Stovall said. “They want to be steps away from their child. We are very proud to work together on a project that will bring comfort and support to many more families and allow them to focus on what is most important – the health of their child.” The new 2,800 square-foot family room will be located next to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on the second floor of the new children’s hospital. The new children’s hospital will connect to the front of the existing children’s hospital and will include a pediatric emergency room and
trauma center, new procedure rooms dedicated to pediatric surgery, an expanded neonatal intensive care unit, a pediatric oncology unit, a medical/surgical

Upon opening, the new children’s hospital is expected to add 100 Sacred Heart jobs for the local community. This growth of healthcare services will also enable recruitment of new pediatric specialists. While the Studer Family Children’s Hospital will maintain the space, the Ronald McDonald House will continue to provide the expert staff and trained volunteers to work within the new facility. “We are amazing at taking care of high risk, severely ill and critically-injured children, but when it comes to managing the
service and comfort of families, we have a partner that knows how to do this better than we do— and that’s the Ronald McDonald House,” Stovall said. “This place is intended to compliment what’s already available at the Ronald McDonald House down the hill, so that in their moment of need or distress, they can have that warm safe feeling.” Stovall noted the new facility wasn’t just an amenity, but an absolute necessity for the continued growth of the hospital and the quality of care for their patients and families. “This new space is in the ‘must have’ category, not the ‘nice to have’ category,” he added. “Studer Family Children’s hospital is the pediatric trauma center for the region, and as the complexity of the sicknesses we encounter goes up, we have to think differently about how we take care of these children and families and what their needs are. These families can go through a set of doors and enter a place that feels totally different from the rest of the hospital. If they need to take a nap or a shower, make a call in a quiet place, or just be alone to compose themselves—whatever the need may be—we will have that available to them 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Children’s Home Society of Florida The Cats out of the bag! The Pensacola Little Theatre proudly Achieves National Accreditation Orlando, Fla.-based Children’s Home Society of Florida (CHS) has achieved national accreditation from the Council on Accreditation (COA). The nonprofit, peer-driven COA seeks to improve delivery outcomes by accrediting organizations that demonstrate best practice standards in the field of human services. CHS has continually earned this distinct honor since 1982. CHS is among less than 20 percent of organizations nationwide to achieve full or substantial implementation ratings for all of COA’s accreditation standards relevant to the organization, according to Richard Klarberg, COA’s president and chief executive officer. The standards are intended to ensure that services are wellcoordinated, culturally competent, evidencebased, outcomesoriented, and provided by a skilled and supported workforce. The accreditation process involved a detailed review and analysis of CHS’ administration, management, and service
delivery functions. CHS first provided written evidence of compliance with the COA standards followed by on-site interviews with staff and clients by a group of specially-trained volunteer peer reviewers. Comments from the Final Accreditation Report include: –Case Management – “The case management programs at CHS are exceptional. Documentation is clear [and] concise. Staff are very engaged in assisting the children, adults and families they are serving by helping them to access and utilize supports which build upon their strengths.” –Client Rights – “The organization respects the rights and dignity of their clients and it is shown throughout the organization.”– Ethical Practice – “Very ethical organization. There is transparency across the organization. They are well respected by their public and private partners.” –Performance and Quality Improvement – “CHS has a very robust and structured PQI system in place.” –Training and Supervision –“Very
robust, targeted, and comprehensive training and supervision policies and practices. Demonstrates forward thinking.” – Supervised Visitation and Exchange Program – “The staff providing these services are very sensitive, passionate, and caring. Parents report feeling supported and cared for.” –Pregnancy Support Services – “Staff are very dedicated to birth mothers as well as adoptive parents. It is often difficult to serve both but they are compassionate and able to work the triad very well.” “This is a significant achievement for our organization,” said CHS President and CEO Michael Shaver. “COA re-accreditation affirms that we meet the highest national standards of best practice and provides assurances to all of our stakeholders that Children’s Home Society of Florida is delivering vital, highquality services in our community, conducting our operations successfully, and managing our funds effectively.”

LEVINE TOURS STATE AMID TALK OF GUBERNATORIAL BID By JIM TURNER THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA
Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine rolled into the backyard of two potential Democratic gubernatorial opponents to talk sausage and sports on Friday. While he didn’t shy away from discussing a potential run for governor, any announcement about a 2018 candidacy won’t come until the fall, he said. His “A Day in the Sun” bus tour, Levine said, was about highlighting distinct characteristics of Florida for his weekly satellite radio show. “This entire trip is all about SiriusXM ... It’s all about educating our listeners (about) what is so unique and special about Florida,” Levine said. Levine paints himself a businessman focused “radical centrist” policies --- something important he said for Democrats to capture votes outside South Florida. He also reminded reporters about door-knocking efforts from his mayoral contests as he said traveling and listening to Floridians helps to better understand the people and the state. “These folks that live everywhere, they’re customers,” Levine said. “They pay taxes and they want to be treated like customers. To know your customers, is to know more about your state.” Interviews from the trip, part of an anticipated five-part series for his year-old show called “The
Mayor,” are intended to be non-political, Levine said. “People all want the same things,” Levine said. “They want better economic opportunities. They want great education. They want clean water. They want opportunities for their kids, and they want infrastructure. That’s shared whether you are a sponge diver in Tarpon Springs or whether you are hunting pythons in the Everglades.” With a radio team in hand, and cameras rolling, Levine stopped for breakfast at Bradley’s Country Store outside Tallahassee --- he purchased some store-brand grits, maple syrup and “gluten free” sauce --- and later went off to talk Florida State University athletics at the campus. Bob Fish, a Leon County resident who spoke with Levine while shopping in Bradley’s, said one of his key issues is the economy, particularly the state’s hospitality industry because that is how he’s employed. “Tourism is what keeps us going, tourism is paramount,” said Fish, who noted he supports Gov. Rick Scott while considering himself an angry nonpartisan. “I don’t care what party you’re from, just do the right thing for the state.” Levine, who made a fortune through a business that provided media content to the cruise industry,
was scheduled to finish the bus tour later Friday with stops in rural Wewahitchka and Pensacola. He started the tour Monday with stops at Fireman Derek’s Key Lime Pie and Versailles Cuban Restaurant in Miami and through the week went to places as varied as Everglades Safari Park, a Tampa cigar company and the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum. Interviews were conducted with a sponge farmer in Tarpon Springs, a citrus grower in Citra and a charter fishing crew in Mayport. Levine pulled in to Tallahassee with lower name recognition than other Democrats already in the field. But he has shown no qualms about digging into his own wallet while running for public office. He spent $1.97 million, most coming from his own pocket, when he first won the mayor’s office in 2013. He spent about $896,000 while more comfortably retaining the seat two years later. Other Democrats running for governor include Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum and former Congresswoman Gwen Graham, a Tallahassee resident. Also in the race is Winter Park businessman Chris King. The field also could end up including another wealthy candidate, as Orlando trial lawyer John Morgan considers a bid.
JUSTICES REJECT CHALLENGE TO SCOTT CITRUS VETO By JIM SAUNDERS THE NEWS SERVICE FLORIDA
OF
Despite clear frustrations of some justices, the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday declined to invalidate Gov. Rick Scott’s veto of $37.4 million that lawmakers approved to compensate homeowners whose healthy citrus trees were cut down by the state more than a decade ago. The ruling pointed to circuit-court cases in Broward and Lee counties aimed at forcing the state to pay judgments in class-action lawsuits won by homeowners. In going to the Supreme Court, attorneys for the homeowners argued, in part, that quick action was needed because of the July 1 start of the state’s fiscal year. Lawmakers included the money in the state budget for the new fiscal year, but Scott vetoed it. “The petitioners do not provide any support for an immediate need for this (Supreme) Court to resolve the issue,” said the majority opinion fully shared by Chief Justice Jorge Labarga and justices Barbara Pariente, Charles Canady, Ricky Polston and Alan Lawson. “Nothing about the start
of the new fiscal year prevents the respective circuit courts from issuing the relief requested, if those courts determine that relief is commanded by the facts and law.” But Pariente, in a concurring opinion joined by Justice Peggy Quince, criticized the state for delaying payments to the homeowners, whose healthy trees were cut down as the state tried to eradicate citrus canker disease. “This is yet another chapter in which the ill-fated protagonists, the petitioners in this case, who had healthy citrus trees destroyed by the state in 2002 and 2003, continue to be thwarted in their attempt to obtain full and just compensation,” Pariente wrote. “Rather than reaching a final conclusion in the saga … the legislative appropriations for the full amounts of the final judgments were vetoed by the governor, prompting the petition filed in this (Supreme) Court. Despite the petitioners having obtained final judgments, the validity of which are not contested, the state has fought payment on these judgments over many years, requiring the petitioners to navigate a legal obstacle course.” In a scathing dissent, Justice R. Fred
Lewis called Thursday’s ruling a “sad day for Florida citizens” and pointed to a constitutional obligation for the state to make payments for taking property. “This is not a game and our citizens should not be toyed with as if a yo-yo, and yet that is exactly what this veto accomplishes,” Lewis wrote. “Now, with the opportunity to stop this 10year game of yo-yo, this (Supreme) Court abdicates its responsibility when it allows state actors to disregard their constitutional obligation by playing further games of delay and obfuscation. Justice demands that it stop now.” The homeowners in Broward and Lee counties won judgments against the state because of the removal of 167,677 healthy trees on 70,036 residential properties from 2000 to 2006, according to court documents. The state, however, has not paid the judgments. In vetoing the money this year, Scott cited “ongoing litigation” as the reason --- an explanation also cited by a spokesman after Thursday’s ruling. “It is unfortunate what happened to these Floridians over a decade ago and Governor Scott sincerely understands
their concern,” spokesman John Tupps said in an email. “Due to ongoing litigation, the $37.4 million in the budget was not approved. We are hopeful that all litigation regarding this issue will be completely resolved, allowing the issue to be addressed comprehensively across the state.” In court documents, attorneys for the homeowners disputed the explanation about ongoing litigation, saying the judgments in the Broward and Lee cases are final. They said the only ongoing litigation involves a case in Miami-Dade County. A Lee County judge on June 28 issued an order directing the state to pay Lee County homeowners. But the order also gave the state 40 days to make the payments or respond with why it refuses to do so. In Thursday’s dissent, Lewis wrote that the circuit judge, Keith Kyle, “has already recognized that the time for payment is now.” “We simply cannot allow another 10 years to go by for the executive to continue playing games of hide the money through a veto power and word games in the courts,” Lewis wrote.
WILDLIFE OFFICIALS TO LOOK AT IMPORTS OF SHARK FINS By JIM TURNER THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA
Florida wildlife officials want to look at banning the importation of shark fins through the state’s ports. But they are not getting behind a federal proposal to prohibit possession of shark fins. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Executive Director Nick Wiley directed staff, after hearing from members of the commission and the public Monday, to look into what the agency can do about the importation of shark fins and determine what “we need to be pushing on that if we can.” With fins considered a delicacy in parts of Asia, “finning” is an illegal practice in Florida and the U.S. It involves cutting off shark fins at sea and then discarding the sharks. Commissioner Robert Spottswood was among those who questioned why the state allows the importation of shark fins separate from the rest of shark bodies. “We require, with regard to fish that are imported, species that they follow our size limits,” Spottswood said. “Why do we allow shark fins to come in from people who don’t support the ban on shark finning? I don’t understand.” The commission, however, did not lend support to a proposal before Congress intended to expand the nation’s ban on shark finning. Eight members of the Florida’s congressional delegation are co-sponsors of the proposal: Republicans Carlos Curbelo, Vern Buchanan, Matt Gaetz and Ted Yoho and Democrats Ted Deutch, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Darren Soto and Charlie Crist. Critics of the federal proposal are concerned, in part, about potential impacts on commercial fishermen. The federal proposal has drawn opposition from the marine industry, while opinions from conservationists appear split on the issue. “Yes, the United States is not the number one contributor, but when the U.S. steps up and leads, others do follow,” said Lora Snyder, with the international advocacy organization Oceana. Snyder wants the commission to support the federal proposal, saying the need to sustain the shark population is vital to Florida. Snyder also equated the fin issue to past acceptance of trade in elephant tusks.
“We are participating in the global trade, so much like the demand for ivory has jeopardized elephant population,” Snyder said. “It’s this demand for fins that is contributing to the population declines for sharks.” Yet, Robert Hueter, a shark researcher and associate vice president for research at Sarasota-based Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, in supporting the commission’s stance, said an expanded U.S. ban on possession won’t solve the international trade. Hueter noted the U.S. exports less than 1 percent of the shark fins on the market and imports 0.2 percent. “Whatever we give up will likely be filled up by nations practicing less sustainable fishing than the U.S.,” Hueter said. More importantly, the “well-meaning” federal proposal could harm Florida businesses, he said. A better approach, Hueter said, would be to stop the importing of all shark products from nations that don’t practice sustainable shark fishing, particularly those that still permit finning. “Some authority already exists to do this,” he said. Hueter also supported state legislation signed into law by Scott in May (SB 884) that increased penalties for people who violate a state law about the illegal possession of shark fins. The state requires sharks harvested in Florida waters to be brought ashore in a whole condition. The new law, which goes into effect Oct. 1., would increase fines and penalties for people illegally in possession of shark fins. Commissioner Ron Bergeron said the federal proposal appears “like a waste to me.” “I was always raised that every animal your hunt or fish, you use every part of it,” Bergeron said. “I think we have plenty of protection, and we’re only 1 percent of the whole global picture of the shark fins.” Commissioner Michael Sole added that “it’s clear that the problem is not here.” “If we’re trying to address the problems that are occurring in other nations, through commerce … (this) seems to be the right path; not to completely turn upside down a fishery that is being managed appropriately,” Sole said.

FLORIDA CITRUS HARVEST LOWEST IN DECADES By JIM TURNER THE NEWS SERVICE FLORIDA
statement. “Florida’s brightest minds
OF are making progress toward a solution,
The final forecast of the 2016-2017 season for Florida’s struggling citrus industry shows the orange crop falling 16 percent from the previous season --- which, itself, had been at a fivedecades low. And after a season of severe drought, combined with the continued fight against a deadly citrus disease and the expansion of residential development, the news wasn’t any better for grapefruit farming, where production dropped 28 percent from the prior year. Agriculture Commissioner and gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam, who grew up on a farm in Polk County, expressed a need to keep fighting the disease citrus greening, which he equated to being “like a biblical plague” spreading across the state’s groves. “The future of Florida citrus, and the tens of thousands of jobs it supports, is wholly dependent on the discovery of a silver bullet in the fight against greening,” Putnam said in a prepared
but until then, we must continue to support our growers and provide them every tool available to combat this devastating disease.” The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported Wednesday, in the final forecast for the 2016-2017 season, that Florida growers have harvested enough oranges to fill 68.7 million 90-pound boxes. The figure is up slightly from a June forecast, but down from the 70 million boxes growers were originally predicted to fill this season. The monthly uptick was the focus of the Florida Department of Citrus. “Ending the season on a positive note is a big deal because it shows there is still investment in Florida’s signature crop,” Shannon Shepp, executive director of the Department of Citrus, said in a prepared statement. “It takes quite serious effort to produce every single piece of fruit. Every additional box shows promise for Florida citrus.” Growers produced 81.6 million boxes of oranges in the 2015-2016 season.
Meanwhile, growers during the 2016-2017 season filled 7.8 million 90-pound boxes with grapefruit, the red variety accounting for 6.3 million boxes. While unchanged from the June forecast, grapefruit production a year ago stood at 10.8 million boxes, and this year’s harvest was initially forecast to reach 9.6 million boxes. A relative bright spot for citrus growers this year was the production of tangerines and tangelos. The specialty crop, which hit a low of 1.415 million boxes last season, filled 1.62 million boxes this past season. The forecast at the start of the season was for tangerines and tangelos to fill 1.65 million boxes. A decade ago, Florida growers produced 151 million boxes of oranges, 19.3 million boxes of grapefruit and 6.9 million boxes with tangerines and tangelos. At that time, Florida accounted for almost three-fourths of all U.S. orange production. California was second filling 53 million boxes, or 25.7 percent. Florida now accounts for 58 percent
of the U.S. orange production. California remains second with 48 million boxes filled this year, or 40.65 percent of the total. To brace for the continuing declines, the Florida Department of Citrus has approved a preliminary $17.5 million operating budget that would feature a 22 percent spending cut. The proposed budget, based on growers producing another 10 percent less next season, won’t be finalized until October when the first 20172018 forecast is available. To help growers, the department is proposing that a tax on each box filled with grapefruit would drop from 7 cents to 5 cents. A year ago, the tax was lowered from 23 cents to 7 cents on each box of processed oranges and from 19 cents for each box of grapefruit. The spending reductions during the 2017-2018 fiscal year would come mostly by eliminating retail-marketing efforts, which stood at $1.5 million in the current year, a $1.43 million cut to public relations and a nearly $1 million decrease to the fresh and gift fruit program.
STATE `JOB GROWTH’ FUND OPENS FOR BUSINESS By JIM TURNER THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA
Florida is starting to accept pitches for $85 million that lawmakers have set aside for economicdevelopment projects. Gov. Rick Scott announced Wednesday that the state Department of Economic Opportunity and Enterprise Florida are accepting proposals for money in the “Florida Job Growth Grant Fund,” which was created during a June special legislative session. “We are competing against other states and countries for new jobs, and we must aggressively fight to make Florida the best destination for business,” Scott said in a prepared statement. The creation of the fund was a compromise after the House this spring blocked Scott’s request for a similar amount of money that would have gone to business incentives awarded out of the publicprivate Enterprise Florida. Rather than providing direct incentives to individual companies that expand or relocate
to Florida, money from the new fund must go toward infrastructure projects or job training. The Department of Economic Opportunity and Enterprise Florida will recommend projects to Scott for approval. House Speaker Richard Corcoran, R-Land O’ Lakes, led criticism during the past two years of Scott’s requests for money for business incentives, often calling such incentives “corporate welfare” and even labeling them “de facto socialism.” But with the new fund in place, Corcoran cozied up to Scott during a “victory” tour after the special session, declaring the fund “a brand new model for the rest of the nation on how to do funding for bringing business and keeping businesses here with infrastructure and education that benefits everybody, not just the few.” “This fund will free up the governor to cut through unnecessary bureaucracy, regulation, and red tape to improve infrastructure and education leading to greater job growth and opportunity for all
Floridians,” Corcoran said in a prepared statement Wednesday. As part of infrastructure proposals, for example, government entities must detail anticipated economic impacts and “how the public infrastructure improvements will connect to a broader economic development vision for the community and benefit current or future businesses.” Applications for job-training money are required to describe how the proposals support state college and university programs, as well as providing sustainable workforce skills to more than a single employer. Applicants must also predict the number of jobs that will be created from the job training. Senate President Joe Negron, R-Stuart, said the “new transparency measures,” provide the “right balance between accountability to the taxpayers who fund our government and the flexibility needed to remain nationally competitive.”
EVEN WITHOUT ANNOUNCEMENT, SCOTT RUNS FOR SENATE
By BRANDON LARRABEE THE NEWS SERVICE OF FLORIDA
Calling Gov. Rick Scott’s likely bid for the U.S. Senate an “open secret” would be a misnomer --there’s no secret there, open or otherwise. Scott continues to sprint across the state for official events that easily double as campaign swings --- this week alone, he’s done a pair of ceremonial bill signings and two events to highlight law-enforcement pay raises he signed into law last month. The only mystery is when the governor will make his 2018 plans official. Observers say there’s no hurry. “Because he’s potentially the biggest name in that race on the Republican side, he can take his time, really,” said Aubrey Jewett, a political science professor at the University of Central Florida. Scott has repeatedly brushed off questions about when he might run, saying the public is “tired of long campaigns.” He also has personal experience to draw on: Scott announced his first run for governor as a virtual unknown in April 2010 before beating Attorney General Bill McCollum in an August GOP primary and Democrat Alex Sink in the general election that November. This time, Scott would probably need to start a little bit sooner. “He can probably push it into late in the fall. Obviously, he is running already,” said Rick Wilson, a Republican strategist. The governor began laying the groundwork for a possible campaign months ago. He has kept intact
his first fundraising committee, “Let’s Get to Work,” which has raised more than $11.5 million since Scott won re-election in 2014. At the federal level, Scott has announced he would chair the “New Republican” super PAC, saying the goal of the committee “is to make the Republican Party Great Again” --- part of an overall Scott theme of tying himself closely to President Donald Trump. In addition to trips across the state, Scott has traveled to Washington, D.C., and continues to raise his profile on national issues. On Monday, Scott held a “Venezuelan Freedom Rally” in Miami to slam the authoritarian regime of President Nicolas Maduro. “Today, as hundreds of people rallied together, a clear message was sent to Maduro and his gang of thugs: the movement will not be silenced --- freedom and democracy will thrive in Venezuela,” Scott said in a statement released by his office Monday. “Basically, his actions and his words have made it pretty clear that he intends to run, and his bank account makes it clear that he intends to run,” Jewett said. Democrats have also shown they have no doubt that Scott is running. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has hammered the governor repeatedly over the past few months. On Wednesday, they slammed “Self-Serving Scott’s selfpromotional press tour” on law-enforcement pay raises, saying Florida officers still make less than many counterparts in other states. “Rick Scott’s self-serving agenda has taken Florida to the bottom of the nation in household income and wages --- and under Scott even Florida’s brave
law enforcement officers make less than almost anywhere else in the country,” said David Bergstein, a spokesman for the committee. U.S. Bill Nelson, the Democratic incumbent who Scott would face next year, has also taken a few subtle and not-so-subtle jabs at the governor. Still, no formal announcement seems to be in the works. After being governor since January 2011, Scott also lacks one of the key reasons for an early announcement --- making sure voters, and particularly campaign contributors, know a candidate’s name. “He’s already run statewide twice,” Wilson said. “He’s already got a lot of name ID.” Scott has held off longer than his predecessor, former Gov. Charlie Crist, who announced in May 2009 that he would seek a U.S. Senate seat the following year. But Crist also faced something Scott does not, so far: a credible primary challenger. In the 2010 U.S. Senate race, former state House Speaker Marco Rubio drummed Crist out of the Republican Party and then went on to win a three-way general election campaign. For now, no other high-profile Republican has made serious noise about challenging Scott for the Senate nomination if he wants it. “I don’t know that him announcing earlier is going to scare anyone off who’s not already scared off,” Jewett said. Still, Wilson said, even Scott can’t wait forever. “You have to put your toe in the water at some point,” he said, “or you attract other people into the game.”
