President’s Message

Dear Members,

As I sit here thinking of what to write I am filled with pride to be associated with such a great organization. Last week there were over 200 FHBA members walking the halls of the state capital advocating for your interests and mine on behalf of the residential construction industry. We spoke with our legislators about current and future regulations that overly burden our businesses as well as the ones we can get behind that support economic growth and smart development. There are some level-headed laws being presented that we locally and at the state level can support and we must express such agreement. We also must stand firm against the unnecessary language that can hurt our industry and the great people that make a living within it when such laws are presented. The week was an excellent opportunity to come together with all 22 other local Home Builder Associations from across the state and really make a difference for our members.

Another membership that you are a part of by being a member of the HBA here in West Florida is the NAHB. They are also fighting on our behalf at the national level. And just this week I can report that they (we) had a big win in DC. The HUD delayed the implementation of new energy codes that would raise the cost of housing by an estimated $20,000.00 and depending on who you talk to an estimated $31,000.00 per single family residence. Either one of those numbers are not good for our industry or our clients in this affordable housing crisis we face. This is the difference that construction professionals being involved in the HBA can make.

I bring both events to your attention to encourage you to get involved. If you have not been to Tallahassee and the legislative conference and had a chance to speak in favor of smart laws to help and not hurt our industry you should certainly think about going next year. It is well worth the time invested. You will never know the impact you can have until you get out and start speaking with others in the industry about the changes that can and do take effect because of the time of the members getting involved.

In closing, I want to personally thank our members who made the trip over to Tallahassee for the FHBA conference! Rusty continues to tell us how much of a difference you make when you show up in support of these efforts. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. It was an honor to represent my fellow HBA members from Northwest Florida.

A Trip to the Capital: FHBA Legislative Conference

We recently wrapped up a successful FHBA Legislative Conference in Tallahassee, where FHBA members from across the state met directly with legislators to advocate on behalf of the residential building industry. We are grateful to the dedicated members who represented HBA West Florida: Alton Lister (Lister Builders), Heath Kelly (Heath Kelly Construction), Jessica Ford (FD Builds), Suzanne Spann (Legacy Insurance), Austin Tenpenny (aDoor Properties), and Janson Thomas (Swift Supply) Their time, commitment, and willingness to speak up on behalf of the industry play a vital role in shaping policies that impact housing across our communities.

Through meetings with local officials, participation in statelevel legislative sessions, and ongoing conversations around costs, codes, and regulations, the HBA works to protect the future of housing and the businesses that support it.

The Home Builders Association is about far more than networking events and social gatherings. At its core, the HBA exists to advocate for the building industry and ensure that the voices of builders, trades, and industry professionals are heard where decisions are made.

NAHB Expands Member Savings Program with New Partners and Big Benefits in 2026

The NAHB Member Savings Program continues to deliver significant value for members. In 2025, NAHB members saved a total of more than $40 million through a variety of exclusive offers designed to support their businesses and everyday operations.

With a growing portfolio of partners and programs, NAHB Member Savings remains a powerful benefit of NAHB membership – and momentum continues to build.

Savings Highlights in 2025

The past year saw several additions to the Member Savings Program, particularly in the auto category. New partnerships with Ford Pro, Mercedes-Benz Vans and Ram (a returning program offering re-vamped deals) give members even more opportunities to save on vehicles essential to their business.

• Ford Pro–Members can save up to $5,500 on Ford Pro’s trucks, vans and SUVs.

• Mercedes-Benz Vans–Members receive an additional $500 off new Cargo Vans, Crew Vans, Passenger Vans and Cab Chassis.

• Ram–Members can enjoy a $1,000 discount on trucks and vans (stackable with in-market offers).

In addition to savings programs for vehicles, NAHB also introduced two other valuable programs in 2025:

• Baytek Intuit QuickBooks–offering members up to 50% off select QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop Solutions.

• Best Buy Business–providing savings of up to 40% off retail on thousands of appliances, smart-home technology and whole-home audio from top brands.

Expanding Value for Members in 2026

Looking ahead, the Member Savings Program continues to grow with new offerings launching soon. One of the newest additions is Signature Federal Credit Union, a nationwide and full-service credit union that provides members access to no-fee checking, personal loans and up to 97% financing on mortgages and auto loans nationwide.

Signature FCU also provides an online branch and mobile banking app, ensuring members have access wherever they are. New member applicants will also receive a $25 statement credit towards their first purchase.

Members will also notice on the member savings site that the company formerly known as Heartland has rebranded to Global Payments. While the name and logo have changed, members can expect the same hands-on support and trusted merchant processing services they’ve always received.

In addition, Active&Fit Direct has also launched their new Marketplace where members who are currently enrolled in a gym through Active&Fit Direct can save 10-50% on wellness products such as apparel and gadgets from Adidas, New Balance, NutriBullet, Therabody, and more!

For a complete list of current Member Savings Programs and to see what’s new, visit nahb.org/savings. If you have questions or suggestions for new programs, feel free to contact Sharon Salang.

More than a century ago, our founders saw the need for a bank built to last an institution anchored in values, reinforced with resilience and focused on opportunity. To realize their vision, they forged business foundations from the character and community that distinguish the Gulf South. SPIKE CLUB

In construction, a spike is a steel object that is essential to making a building strong. As in construction, the HBA of West Florida sees a Spike as someone that works to keep our association strong. Spikes work on the recruitment and retention of members in addition to keeping members active with the association. Anyone is eligible for Spike status. On Spike credit is awarded for each new member recruited and an additional credit is awarded for that new member’s renewal on or before their anniversary date. If you help to retain a member, you are eligible to receive a half point for each member.
