President’s Message Dear Members, We had a great Southeast Building Conference in Orlando this past week, and if one honest theme ran through it, it was this: our industry is hard. We all know it. We work in a difficult business, and the headwinds we face from time to time are enough to make anyone stop and ask why we do what we do. But at the end of the day, we love what we do. This industry means a great deal to us — and it means a great deal to this country and to our local area as well.

Heath Kelly

President

That honesty carried into the local presidents’ meeting FHBA held, where much of the conversation across the state turned to a difficult reality. Builders are talking about job sites sitting empty and deposits being handed back on projects that are ready to go — not for lack of demand, but for lack of the workers to complete them. It is one of the real headwinds facing our industry right now, and it is worth naming plainly.

And yet, another meeting that same day reminded me exactly why we do this. In the FHBA Governmental Affairs meeting, we worked through the process of gathering input from members across the state on the issues that will be top of mind heading into this coming legislative session — and let me tell you, there were several. It reminded me why we get involved. It reminded me that what we do here in our little corner of the state matters. All the events, all the fundraising — it matters. Stay the course.

Heath Kelly Construction

Speaking of events, this is the news the whole year has been building toward: the 2026 Dream Home has finally taken shape, and as of today it is on the market for sale. We just held the ribbon-cutting on site, and it was an honor to recognize the tremendous donors and trade partners whose hard work made it possible. My sincere thanks as well to Westerheim Properties for building this one and seeing it through. What a house we are presenting as an association. If you have not walked through it yet, you owe it to yourself to do so during the Parade of Homes. We open with a Kick-Off Party at Seville Quarter on August 13, with the Parade itself running the 14th through the 16th. Come see not only our Dream Home, but the outstanding work other builders are showcasing throughout the Parade as well. As a collective group of industry professionals, we have done a really good job this year, and I look forward to the success of this year’s Parade of Homes. So yes, this business is hard. But while our area has its troubles, there are still great things happening here and good work still going on. Let’s all count our blessings to live and build in such a great part of the state of Florida. Teamwork makes the dream work.

Heath Kelly,

HBA President

Celebrating the Dream Home: Ribbon Cutting & Donor Recognition Members of the Home Builders Association of West Florida, Dream Home donors, community partners, and friends gathered at the 2026 Dream Home for a special Ribbon Cutting and Donor Recognition event. With a fantastic turnout filling the home, the evening was an opportunity to celebrate not only the completion of the Dream Home, but the many people and companies who helped make it possible. The event marked an exciting milestone after months of planning, coordination, construction, and collaboration. While the finished home provided the perfect backdrop for the evening, the real focus was on the individuals and businesses whose contributions brought the project together. Throughout the build, an incredible number of HBA members and community partners stepped forward to donate products, materials, professional services, skilled labor, time, and expertise. Those contributions ranged in size and scope, but every one played a role in moving the project from plans on paper to a completed home. During the evening, HBA had the opportunity to formally recognize those contributions. Platinum-level donors were presented with special awards in appreciation of their significant support of the project, while donors at the Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels received certificates recognizing their contributions. It was important to HBA that the evening include an opportunity to acknowledge the businesses behind the project and personally thank the people who gave so much to it.

Projects like the Dream Home highlight one of the greatest strengths of our Association: the willingness of our members to come together. A project of this scale requires far more than one builder, one company, or one trade. It takes suppliers, subcontractors, skilled tradespeople, designers, professional service providers, volunteers, committee members, and many others working behind the scenes. The Ribbon Cutting and Donor Recognition event gave us the chance to celebrate that collaboration and recognize the tremendous amount of work represented in the finished product. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to the 2026 Dream Home and to everyone who joined us for the celebration. We also extend our appreciation to the Dream Home Committee and all those who dedicated their time throughout the process to help keep the project moving forward. To every donor, worker, volunteer, committee member, partner, and supporter who played a part: thank you for helping make the 2026 Dream Home a reality.

HBAWF News A Special Thank You to Our Dream Home Committee Behind the completion of the 2026 HBA Dream Home were months of planning, coordination, creativity, and collaboration. From the earliest conversations about the project through the final preparations to open the doors, our Dream Home Committee worked alongside the builder and HBA staff to help bring the vision for this year’s home to life. A project of this size involves countless details, and the committee was an important part of the process from beginning to end. Members shared their time, knowledge, and industry expertise while participating in design selections, coordinating with donors and industry partners, reviewing plans and finishes, visiting the home throughout construction, and helping make the many decisions that shaped the finished product. The committee, builder, and HBA staff worked together throughout each stage, with everyone bringing their own experience and perspective to the project. For several of our committee members, that commitment extended beyond the time they dedicated to planning the Dream Home. Gene’s Floor Covering, Carnley Services, and Swift Supply also supported the project as Dream Home donors, contributing materials and services in addition to the time and expertise their representatives provided as members of the committee. Their involvement is a wonderful example of the generosity and commitment that made this project possible, and we are especially grateful for the many ways they chose to support the Dream Home. That spirit of collaboration is at the heart of the Dream Home. The project provides an opportunity to showcase the craftsmanship of our local building industry, highlight the products and services of our members and industry partners, and demonstrate what can be accomplished when so many people contribute their talents toward a shared vision. We sincerely thank each member of the 2026 Dream Home Committee for the time, expertise, and commitment they contributed throughout the process. We are grateful for the partnership between our committee, builder, HBA staff, donors, and industry partners and for everyone who played a part in creating a Dream Home our entire association can be proud of.
