NASP hosts children’s holiday party From NAS Pensacola Public Affairs
Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola hosted its annual Selected Children’s Holiday Party Dec. 7 at the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) youth center gym onboard NAS Pensacola. The party, sponsored by the NAS Pensacola First Class Petty Officers Association (FCPOA) and designed to provide selected Pensacola-area elementary school-aged children a holiday event including gifts, arts and crafts and lunch, has become a mainstay for the NAS Pensacola FCPOA and something extremely well-received by the more than 100 children attending. “Events such as this – particularly during the holiday season – can serve to make sure that some children in the local community have an
opportunity to enjoy the holiday season that they might not have had,” AC1 Aaron Kelly, the NAS Pensacola FCPOA president said. “Some of us might have come from similar backgrounds, and the opportunity to provide a bit of holiday cheer is part of who we are – both as members of this community and as Sailors.” Kelly said the NAS Pensacola FCPOA worked closely with Carissa Bergosh, a liaison for the four Pensacola-area schools – AK Suter Elementary, Beulah Elementary, Bellview Elementary and West Pensacola Elementary – with students invited to the three-hour event. NAS Pensacola FCPOA members, Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) students and MWR Youth Center employees interacted with the grade-school aged children throughout the party, assisting them with

the service members and civilian employees who volunteered for the event. “It’s a good feeling to know that you’ve made a
difference in the lives of these children, if even for just a moment,” he said. See Santa on page 2

NAS Pensacola marks 24th Tree City USA planting By Marty Daniel Navy Natural Resources Forester NASP PWD
Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola held its 24th annual Tree Planting Ceremony Dec. 7. This puts NAS Pensacola one step closer to its 24th consecutive year as a member of Tree City USA. Tree City USA is a program created by the National Arbor Day Foundation. This program has been working to manage and expand communities’ public trees since 1976. In order to meet Tree City USA status, the community must meet the four core standards of urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.

And to be in the presence of two shipmates who witnessed things we know as history is awe inspiring and important to each and every chief here – we’re charged with ensuring our history and traditions as a Navy are upheld and having the opportunity to learn from a firsthand account of the bravery and sacrifice of the Sailors who came before us is an important part of our continued development as a Navy and a Chief’s Mess.” Nearly 200 attendees observed morning colors See BNC on page 2 Wreath laying at Barrancas National Cemetery tomorrow (Dec. 15) ....
