NMOTC holds change of command Story, photos by MC2 Michael Lieberknecht Navy Medicine Operational Training Center
Navy Medicine Operational Training Center (NMOTC) held a change of command ceremony at the National Naval Aviation Museum onboard Naval Air Station Pensacola (NASP) July 10. Capt. Theron C. Toole relieved Capt. Mark M. Goto as commanding officer during a ceremony that included a retirement observance for Goto. “Capt. Goto, under your leadership NMOTC has excelled in mission accomplishment and led from the front on several strategic initiatives for Navy Medicine,” Rear Adm. Rebecca McCormick-Boyle, Commander, Navy Medicine Education, Training and Logistics Command (NMETLC) and presiding officer for the ceremony said. “I am grateful to you for your service and for your tremendous leadership as NMOTC’s commanding officer.”
Goto used his time to speak to wish the command was well prepared for the future. “As I say farewell to you, like a parent saying goodbye to their child, I want to make sure you have enough gas in your tank and an extra twenty dollars in your wallet,” Goto said. “In the end, you’ll find your way and do even greater things.” Toole read his orders and expressed his gratitude as the new commanding officer. “I’m thrilled to be here and I look forward to serving with all of you over the next two years,” Toole said. “Thank you very much. I can’t say that enough.” NMOTC is part of a healthcare network of Navy medical professionals around the world whom provide highquality healthcare to more than one million eligible beneficiaries. Navy Medicine personnel deploy with Sailors and Marines worldwide, providing critical mission support aboard ships, in the air, under the sea and on the battlefield.

Your input needed: Predesign public survey for NAS Pensacola Bay Living Shoreline Project visit https://myescambia.com/our-services/natural-resourcesmanagement/shoreline-project-questionnaire

Escambia County has received funding from the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council as a result of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill for the design and permitting of a large-scale living shoreline project in Pensacola Bay. Public involvement is a key component of this project and the county is seeking public input about the project design. Public comments received as a result of this survey will be used by the design team to guide the development of the overall conceptual design. The project will include three separate areas around NAS Pensacola (NASP): one adjacent to White Island in northwestern Pensacola Bay and the other two on the eastern and southern shores of NASP. The goal is to
create 24,800 linear feet of rock and oyster reef breakwater to protect the shorelines from further erosion by reducing storm surge impacts. The project will also create 205 acres of marsh and submerged aquatic vegetation habitat at these three sites. Living shorelines address erosion by providing long-term protection, reducing wave energy and restoring vegetated shoreline habitats through strategic placement of plants, rock and oyster reefs. Living shorelines also stabilize sediment, improve water quality, and enhance habitats for oysters, fish, shrimp, crabs, birds, sea turtles and other species.
