From the Pensacola Navy Exchange
Pensacola Navy Exchange (NEX) presented a $12,155 check to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) in support of their mission to provide financial and educational assistance to Sailors and Marines. The donation came from the NMCRS $5 coupons sold at the NEX, offering patrons additional savings during the annual spring campaign. America: 242 years young, happy Independence Day Commentary by Craig Lewis Fire and Emergency Services Gulf Coast As we are fast approaching our 242th birthday as a nation and enjoy time with family and friends let’s look at having a safe and happy Fourth. There shall be lots of festivities such as boating, grilling, family fun, fire work displays and of course
fireworks. Don’t let the fun of the day be a sadly remembered day due to injuries caused by mishandling fireworks and let’s be honest – some of you live in Alabama where it is legal to purchase fireworks and the rest of us live in Florida where everything but sparklers are illegal (don’t mean to put a damper on your festivities but it is true). The category of “spar-
klers” are: sparklers, fountains, snakes and glow worms – at the bottom of the article is a link to a list provided by the Florida Fire Marshal’s Office and CPSC.
For those of you living on NAS Pensacola and NASP Corry Station, no fireworks or even Sparklers are allowed on government installations according to IAW NASPNCLAINST 11320.1H. Concerns for cooking are: • Never leave unattended • Keep children away from immediate cooking area • Keep grills at least 10 feet
