for the Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Corry Station onboard NAS Pensacola (NASP) Corry Station, where he has served since December, 2016. Schneider and his wife Lorah were on their way to an early dinner date and while driving down the street of their Bristol Park neighborhood, they witnessed a few people next to a car parked along the street. “When we approached the people and vehicle, the scene seemed a bit chaotic,” Schneider shared. “I stopped my car and asked the group if they needed
any help.” At that time, Norma Hickerson said, “Yes please, we need help!” Norma is the wife of Ernest Hickerson, the 78-year-old man that was experiencing a life-threating medical emergency. Schneider was told Ernest had been cutting his lawn when the medical emergency occurred, roughly a minute prior to Schneider’s arrival. “Kevin and Lorah immediately exited their vehicle and Schneider took charge of the situation,” Norma said. “I could immediately tell Kevin was a gift from God, because in a split second, Kevin took emergency actions to help my husband while also helping me to remain calm.” Schneider’s Navy and certified recreational rescue diver life-saving training instantly kicked into action. Schneider directed his wife to call 911 and he then assessed Ernest’s vitals. At the time, Ernest was not breathing and had a weak pulse. Schneider opened Ernest’s airway and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). After a short time, Ernest took a deep breath and regained consciousness. However, Ernest then again stopped breathing and lost consciousness. Schneider repeated the CPR process, resuscitating Ernest again. Soon after, local emergency medical technicians arrived and transported Ernest to the hospital with Norma.

In recognition of the Department of Defense (DoD) Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM) observed each April, more than 1,500 Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) students participated in the sixth Annual Amazing Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Challenge April 20. The event, onboard NAS Pensacola (NASP), is de-
signed to increase awareness of sexual assault situations, the role of alcohol in sexual assault, active intervention strategies and avenues of support for sexual assault victims. The proactive challenge stresses the importance communities, DoD and the Navy place on mitigating sexual assault. “These young men and women are new to the United States Navy and Marine Corps, and providing them with the right tools to ensure they are able to recognize, intervene and report any form of sexual assault is demanded of us,” Capt. Max-
ine Goodridge, NATTC commanding officer said. “Here at NATTC we are not just teaching them how to be aviation technicians, but how to be leaders, how to be a meaningful and responsible part of this Navy and Marine Corps family, where sexual assault within our ranks is never tolerated at any level.” SAPR is a DoD-wide program designed to educate service members on sexual assault, provide support to victims of sexual assault and generate awareness on See SAPR on page 2
