A Letter From The E.C.M.S. President The tenth edition of the Escambia County Medical Society Membership directory is now in print. It includes the member physicians of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. This valuable asset to your practice contains the member physicians’ name, specialty, NPI number, practice address, phone number, fax number and email address. Additionally, hospital contacts, managed care contacts and county health department contacts are provided. The directory includes up to date requirements regarding CME and licensure. We host important membership meetings which provide our physicians with the needed mandatory CME credits for re-licensure focusing on: risk management, opioid management and prevention of medical errors. We also offer information concerning other important topics such as asset protection, wealth management, physician burnout, and medical-legal education. The ECMS hosts the Women in Medicine brunch annually. ECMS members also receive additional benefits including: discounted medical malpractice polices and workers compensation insurance. An additional member benefit is a consultation from The Florida Health Care Law Firm if needed. We work to facilitate networking with other physicians in the community at our meetings. We strive to unify our physicians despite our diverse backgrounds. Our society has strong representation at the Florida Medical Association with 10 representatives to the House of Delegates. We encourage new and current members to become a FMA delegate or to draft a resolution that we can take to the House of Delegates. We are following a strategic plan for ECMS to help strengthen our membership and keep our society relevant to our members. The details of our strategic plan are also included in this directory. The Escambia County Medical Society in conjunction with Santa Rosa County [E.C.M.S.] is a local professional association of medical doctors and doctors of osteopathy (M.D.’s & D.O.’s), that addresses political, social, and economic issues concerning the level and delivery of healthcare for patients and physicians. Started in 1873, the non-profit E.C.M.S. represents over 400 physicians living or working in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties of Northwest Florida. Mission: The mission of the Escambia County Medical Society is to advance physicians’ practice of medicine in our community. Vision: Tradition – Honoring the history of medical care in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Service – Serving the needs of our community through the service of our members in the practice of medicine. Leadership – Meeting the challenges of the future and safeguarding our community’s health through organized collaboration on the local, state, and national level. E.C.M.S. Foundation
The ECMS Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Escambia County Medical Society. It is a nonprofit, 501c3 organization dedicated to providing healthcare services on a volunteer and funding basis. It was created in 1994. The Foundation Goals: • To help assure access to healthcare for the medically indigent citizens of the county. •
To study and promote improved methods and facilities for healthcare.
•
To pursue the protection of public health principles and practices.
•
To disseminate information concerning the improvement of healthcare.
Our current programs and projects are: • Escambia County We Care. •
Go Seniors Program.

FSU Medical Student Scholarships.

Physician Wellness Program.
The Foundation is your arm of the Medical Society. It is funded by your contributions, and the ongoing programs provide focused care to the citizens of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. We are proud of it - not all medical societies have a charitable division. 1. The We Care Program is the oldest and was initiated in 1992. This program enrolls physicians to donate services to those who cannot afford them. It has made a significant impact on many lives in our community. The 2018 recipients were recognized at the 2019 ECMS Annual Inaugural Ball. Thank you to everyone who participated. Remember—the more that volunteer, the better the outcomes and the easier it becomes for patients to be seen. Please consider joining The We Care Program. 2. The Go Senior Program is a program facilitated by the Foundation that issues vouchers to help elderly patients with transportation needs to doctors offices. These vouchers provided nearly $7,000 worth of cab fares last year to enable these patients to obtain the care they needed. Your donations combined with a grant from the Fellows Memorial Fund has enabled this program to thrive. 3. The Blood Pressure Cuff Program was initiated two years ago by the Foundation to supply patients with cuffs to monitor their hypertension. More than 400 cuffs have been provided to Health and Hope, Good Samaritan, St. Joseph and Escambia County Clinics. This has made a tremendous impact for many patients. 4. FSU Medical Student Scholarships is an endowment made in conjunction with the Pensacola regional campus. Medical students are presented scholarships and hopefully this will emphasize the need for our area, and some with come back here to practice after all of their training. An initial $100,000.00 contribution was made through the Foundation to create it, and it has continuously grown. Various fundraisers including a Wine Gala, a jewelry fundraiser at Bere’ Jewelers, and the Bourbon, Beer and Boil have helped to sustain it.

5. Pensacola State College Endowment is a partnership between ECMS Foundation and PSC to award 4 scholarships per year to students pursuing degrees in healthcare. 6. The Physicians Wellness Program is a program to help heal the healers. Physician Burnout has become an increasingly prevalent problem over the last few years. To help meet this challenge, the Foundation facilitates the physician’s approach, so that they can spend needed energy toward their patients. It is less than a year old and has already made a significant difference. Additionally, the ECMS Foundation has participated in other varied endeavors. It has provided awards to local science fair winners, money for public service billboards, and enabled a project to bridge the gap between hospital and home care. In 2017 the ECMS Foundation created the 1873 Society, a society to raise awareness and fundraise for our projects. Donors who pledge $3000 or more are recognized on a plague at all society meetings. It is your participation in these programs that keep it going. The money for the Foundation comes from your tax deductible donations. Please consider this as you review your charitable giving. Family planning also provides abstinence counseling and information about natural family planning. Participants will receive a clinical exam by a nurse practitioner or doctor. Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer 850-595-6500, extension 1202 & Early Detection Program The Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (FBCCEDP) promotes early detection through connecting at-risk populations to resources for screening and treatment. The program targets women 50 to 64 years of age without Medicaid or insurance who live in Florida. Call for more information. HIV Prevention -- Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Services 850-595-6345 and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Services Screens candidates and coordinates treatments to prevent HIV infections in Escambia County residents who are at high-risk for exposure, or have been exposed, to HIV. Immunizations 850-595-6500, option 2 FDOH-Escambia offers immunizations for children and adults. All childhood and adolescent immunizations are offered in accordance with the Bureau of Immunizations Schedule and the Florida School Guidelines. No-cost vaccinations are available to children from six weeks through 18 years of age. Clients who are 19 years old and older may qualify for the Adult Vaccine Program that offers a certain vaccines for $18 each. Osteopathic Physicians licensed in the first year of the biennium must complete the 40 hours above to include 1 hour of HIV/AIDS. Domestic Violence is not a requirement for the first renewal. Osteopathic Physicians renewing after July 1 of the second year of the biennium (odd year), are required to complete the HIV/AIDS, Florida Laws and Rules, Professional & Medical Ethics, Federal & State Laws Related to the Prescribing of Controlled Substances and Prevention of Medical Errors courses Florida Board approved courses can be found at www.cebroker.com American Osteopathic Association American Medical Association Florida Osteopathic Medical Association Please see rule 64B15‐13, F.A.C. for additional methods for obtaining CME credit Of the 15 general hours, only 8 can be home study Certain members of the Armed Forces can obtain all hours via home study (see rule) Licensees must obtain 2 hours of domestic violence every third renewal period

Medical Doctors renewing a license for the first time are exempt from the general continuing medical education requirements and are only required to complete 2 hours of Medical Errors and a 1 hour AMA Category I, HIV/AIDS course Courses approved by any state or federal government agency or nationally affiliated professional association or any provider of Category I American Medical Association Continuing Medical Education; Any post graduate training program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education; The following specialty training: American College of Emergency Physicians, Cat I; American Academy of Family Physicians prescribed credit; American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists cognates; and study courses required by those specialty certification boards approved by the Board for the purpose of sitting for specialty recertification examinations 5 hours for attending a regular meeting of the Board of Medicine Up to 15 for serving as a volunteer expert witness 5 hours for a current Board Member serving on a Probable Cause Panel of the Board of Medicine 6 hours for serving as a supervising physician 3 hours for serving as a monitoring physician 5 hours for performing pro bono medical services 6458‐ 13.005(9)
