2018 Rising Star Yearlings With a new name, flash new silks, a couple of new trainers and an exciting bunch of 2yo’s currently hitting the track, the future looks bright for Carbine Thoroughbreds.

We welcome Tony McEvoy and Rob Hickmott to the fold who join our stellar roster of trainers headed by Lindsay Park, Darren Weir, John Sadler, Mick Price and Henry Dwyer.

Our 2yo’s have hit the track running. OCEAN KNIGHT was devastating on debut for Team Hayes and is being set for the spring majors.

RUBAN BLEU made a fantastic debut at Flemington and looks well above average. DAME OF THRONES exceeded all expectations in her first ever preparation and we look forward to seeing our staying trio of PEACE BROTHER, BOOMSTOCK and MEDIEVAL MISS strut their stuff in the spring.

The Mick Price trained MYSTERY LOVE won her jumpout at Caulfield looks to have plenty of raw ability and we eagerly await her debut later in the year.

We purchased three yearlings in 2018 which you can view in this brochure.

For those owners looking for proven stallion success, look no further than our NICCONI colt who is impressing the McEvoy team with his early work.

For those happy to punt on the first season sires, we have two crackers for you.

A TORONADO colt (purchased in partnership with Darren Weir) who looks a real “miler” and a WANDJINA filly who is our “early” running and hopefully our Blue Diamond flag bearer! She is sharp and looks fast.

In Sydney we worked with the Darren Weir team to secure a beautiful chestnut colt by TORONADO out of Northern Meteor mare Northern Aspect for $105,000.

Toronado was an exceptional racehorse in Europe. A son of High Chaparral, he was precocious enough to win all three starts as a 2yo before stamping himself as one of England’s best ever middle distance horses winning the G1 Sussex Sks and the G1 Queen Anne Sks.This colt is from the first Southern Hemisphere crop of Toronado whose yearlings have been very highly sort after at the yearlings sales. This colt is a mature August colt who should get up and going as a 2yo much like his father. He has already been broken in and received rave reviews from breaker Bruce O’Del who described him as a “bombproof colt with a super attitude towards his work”.

He is Super VOBIS qualified and will be paid up for the lucrative VOBIS Gold Series. He will be trained by the master himself, Darren Weir.

Our second purchase was a filly by first season sire WANDJINA out of Musical Lady who was a three-time winner and a half sister to AJC Oaks winner Rena’s Lady.

Her sire, Wandjina, is another exciting first season sire with big expectations.

He is the best son of Snitzel to go to stud having won the Group 1 Australian Guineas under the care of stallion making trainer, Gai Waterhouse (Sebring, Pierro and Northern Meteor!).

Wandjina is earmarked to be her next!

This filly is a beautifully balanced and sharp moving filly who will be targeted at the pre-Christmas 2yo races. Her Smart Missile half sister (Anthemoessa) was twice placed in town as an early 2yo before running credibly in the Gold Coast Magic Millions. She is being targeted at stakes races in the spring.

NICCONI – A WEE DRAM COLT

We journeyed to Adelaide for our final purchase a striking colt by NICCONI who will be trained by Tony McEvoy.

This colt is a magnificent type and looks a real 1200m-1400m sprinter. His mother, A Wee Dram, was a smart sprinter herself who was stakes placed and won over $100k in prize money.

This colt is by the same sire as exciting young sprinter Nature Strip and even bears a close resemblance to him, with a big strong frame and lovely loose walk.

The colt broke in beautifully and is currently flying along in his first preparation at Angaston under Tony’s watchful eye.
