NODIADAU NIGEL’S NOTES Only 10 games into the season but we must count this afternoon’s match as a crunch fixture and one which could well have a major impact on the chances of European qualification come April next year. The significance of this match is easily seen when the respective League positions are considered. First versus third clearly demonstrates how well both teams have begun this campaign and our visitors can be rightly proud of their League position whilst our own last few results have seen us climb the table to offer a serious challenge at the top. We have strung together a run of 4 consecutive wins and have built up the necessary confidence to look to improve on that run today. I thought we were somewhat unfortunate not to pick up all 3 points down

in Barry early season and our improved form over the last few weeks will ensure that this will be a fiercely contested affair. It surely is too early to call it the old football cliche of a “6 pointer” but to fall 7 points behind our visitors would have a serious impact on our chances of overtaking our visitors despite the large number of games remaining. All to play for!!

BALA TOWN 2, CARMARTHEN 1 Saturday saw the Lakesiders notch their fourth consecutive win with a 2-1 win against Carmarthen at a rainy Maes Tegid. The first half didn’t see too many efforts on goal with both teams moving the ball well but the two backlines were resilient and keeping each other at bay. Bala started well and were applying pressure early on and with thirteen minutes played, they went ahead. A fantastic run into the area by Sean Smith saw him dance past three players and as he came into the area, looking as if he was about to unleash the trigger he picked out Robles who fired past Idzi. Carmarthen didn’t sit back after Town went ahead and much to their credit, didn’t play like a side that haven’t won a game this season. The visitors were awarded a freekick 40 yards which didn’t lead

to anything but midway through the half, were back level.

Smith and Jones combined on the left which allowed Jones to loop a cross towards the backpost but After a break down the right hand Idzi could gather prior to Robles side, a low cross was delivered driving forward and allowing into the box which Bull drove into Jones to unleash a shot over the net making it 1-1. the bar. A solid team display from the Lakesiders who coped well with Carmarthen’s physicality and threat to earn themselves a fourth win in all competitions.
