CHAIRMAN’S NOTES Mae rhai yn dweud o dro i dro bod wythnos yn amser hir mewn pêl droed. Wel mae’r frawddeg ddiwethaf yn enghraifft o’i gwir ystyr I ni yma yn nglwb pêl droed y Bala yr wythnos hon.

Wrth I mi ysgrifennu pwt I’r rhaglen heddiw rhaid am y tro roi’r pel droed o’r neilltu. Fe ddaw ne amser eto i hyn.

Brawychwyd ni fel Clwb a Thref y Bala gyda’r newydd trist brynhawn Mawrth o farwolaeth sydyn y gŵr balch oedden ni yn ei adnabod fel “Dei Bri”.

Dyma ŵr oedd â chymeriad siriol a balch, un oedd â hiwmor hwyliog a person lle roedd cyflawni yn bwysig iawn iddo. Fel mae llawer wedi cyfeirio yn ystod y diwrnodau diwethaf ar wefanau cymdeithasol ac ati ffrindiau, chwareuwyr, cyn chwareuwyr, hyfforddwyr a chlybiau cyfagos, roedd Dei wedi gadael ei hoel ar gymaint o bobol wrth iddo ymestyn ei groeso pan fyddai’n croesawur unigolion hyn, wrth iddynt droedio ag ymweld â Maes Tegid.

Byddai rhestrau’r swyddi ar dylydswyddaufyddai Dei’n ei ymrwymoi hun yn ddiddiwedd ag roedd yn giamstar am hel rhyw griw at eu gilydd, byddai yn creu hwyl yn ogystal a chael y gwaith wedi ei wneud.

Rhaid cofio os oedd rhuwyn yn llausu dwylo mi fyddai yn cael ordors I wneud paned a bod yna fisged yn y bocs a byddai yn deud “hynnu ydi os medri di ffeindio’r bocs” Roeddem fel swyddogion wastad yn rhoi Dei fel cyswllt rhwng ein dyletswyddau dyddiol ni fel Clwb ar hun oedd yn mynd ymlaen ar Faes Tegid o ddydd I ddydd. Yn amal iawn os oedd angen trwsio, glanhau, tocio gwrych, torri gwair, peintio ag yn y blaen byddai Dei wastad ar gael I wneud y dibenion hyn a byddain mwynhau yr hyn fyddain gyflawni er mwyn cadw y maes yn ei iawn gyflwr.

Byddain mynychu ein pwyllgorau yn rheolaidd, a byddai wastad yn barchus ei ffordd. Os oedd eisiau codi rhyw bwynt byddai yn dweud “Sgiws me Mr Chairman” a bob amser yn edrych i mewn i llygaid i!

Gŵr cwrtais, trwsiadus, sglein a gwen ar ei wyneb oedd Dei. Gŵr fyddai’n rhoi eraill yn gyntaf ag yn hoffi plesio.

Mae llawer o fynd a dod o fewn y Clwb dros nifer o flynyddoedd, ond mi fedrai sicrhau bod llenwi esgidiau gŵr fel hyn bellach bron yn amhosib. Roedd yn ŵr Clwb ag yn ffrind i ni gyd. Mae ein meddyliau gyda Sheila, Stephen, Mark a’u teuluoedd I gyd yn ystod yr amser anodd hwn.

OPPONENT - ABERYSTWYTH TOWN EST. 1884 HOME: PARK AVENUE ABOUT ABERYSTWYTH TOWN Although Aberystwyth Town FC was formed in 1884, the club probably existed in the 1870s in an earlier incarnation – the re-establishment of a "town" club is recorded in 1876.[3] The club was founded by Arthur Hughes, son of a local solicitor, and his brothers Jack and Hugh. Although football had been played in the town since at least the early 1870s, it was in October 1884 that Arthur Hughes placed an advertisement in the local press: Aberystwyth Football Club Gentlemen wishing to join the above club are requested to attend a meeting to be held at the Belle Vue Hotel on Saturday, the 4th inst., at 4pm. Members' subscriptions to be paid in advance, 2s. 6d.

The club's early days were limited to friendly matches, as the club did not join a league until 1896. It joined the

Welsh League for a year, before reverting to playing friendlies again.[7] In 1900 Town beat Druids 3–0 in the Welsh Cup final and became the first team from mid-Wales to take the trophy.

The club has traditionally held friendly rivalries with Bangor City and fellow town-dwellers Aberystwyth University.

However, the club's biggest rivalries are with Newtown and Carmarthen Town.

The club created history for all the wrong reasons by losing 10–1 to TNS in their second home game of the 2019/2020 season.

In the first season of the Cymru Premier Super 12, Aberystwyth, although in the top six for most of the first half of the season, were in the bottom half of the table at the mid season split, being beaten to the top half again by Port Talbot. The club finished in 7th place, before beating Airbus in the UEFA Europa League playoff quarter final, and eventually losing out to Neath F.C. in the semi-final.

In the 2011/2012 season Aberystwyth Town found itself in the bottom six again, and in a relegation battle. After a defeat to Cymru Alliance side Cefn Druids A.F.C. in the Welsh Cup, Alan Morgan stepped aside and Tomi Morgan returned as manager. Under Morgan the team finished in 8th place, and so qualified once again for the end of season Europa League playoffs.

A day to forget for the Lakesiders!

After the abandonment of our mid-week game against The New Saints, the Lakesiders were back at Maes Tegid just 3 days later, as we welcomed Haverfordwest County AFC on Saturday (3rd of October

The Lakesiders started the game with a succession of corners, with the closest chance coming from Will Evans, but his header would go over the bar.

Ollie Shannon then came close, as Nathan Peate headed back across the box from a corner, as Ollie hit a curling shot on to the crossbar.

After just 10 minutes, the visitors had the ball in the Bala net, however the linesman called for offside.

Venables also came close after a Ollie Shannon cross went to the far post, as Venables headed towards goal, but the keeper got across to deny Bala the lead.

It took until the 25th minute for a goal, and it came following a penalty to the Lakesiders.

Sean Smith put in a teasing cross towards Venables, however a shove on the back of Venables from Scott Tancock led to the referee pointing to the spot. Venables strolled up to the ball and cooly placed the ball into the top right corner, 1-0 to the Lakesiders after 25 minutes!

Following the penalty, the visitors put some pressure of their own on the Bala defence, however their only big chance was an effort inside the box that went over the bar However a minute later, the Bluebirds levelled the score with a pinpoint pass from Dan Summerfield onto the head of Danny Williams who loops Ramsay in goal and makes it 1-1 with 10 minutes of the first half left.

The last 10 minutes of the half saw little action, although right before half-time Venables had a free kick in a good area for Bala, but his shot on goal was blocked by the wall.

The half-time whistle went with a goal a piece, with little goal scoring opportunities in the first half.

Bala then started the second half with a great chance to take the lead, after miscommunication between the defence of the Bluebirds, however Venables couldn’t take advantage of the mistake, and the visitors were able to clear.

The visitors made their first change of the game after an hour played, with Jack Britton replacing Kurtis Rees.

Bala then also made their first change with Henry Jones replacing Kieran Smith.

The visitors had a good chance to take the lead after the hour, but Sean Smith was there to block the shot.

Bala were awarded a free kick after a handball from Sean Pemberton, as Henry Jones took the set-piece, his ball towards the back post was missed by everybody and went out for a goal kick.

With 25 minutes left, both managers made a change with Anthony Stephens making way for Steve Leslie for Bala, and Ben Fawcett made way for Jack Wilson.

Jonny Spittle went into the book for a foul in the Bala half.

The Bluebirds tried long range efforts to beat Ramsay, yet none were on target.

With 10 minutes left of the match, the Lakesiders went looking for a winner, although the visiting defence stood strong and held out the pressure.

Haverfordwest made their last substitution as Marcus Griffiths replaced Danny Williams.

Bala were awarded a free kick in a good position for a cross, with Leslie taking the set-piece. His cross into the box was low, and bounced off a Haverfordwest player, but the ball trickled into the hands of the keeper.

Colin Caton made his last change of the game with 5 minutes to play, as Raul Correia would come off for Llyr Morris.

Will had a good chance to take the lead with minutes remaining, but his header from Leslie’s cross went wide of the post.

The fourth official held up 4 minutes of added time, with both teams looking like they could snatch all 3 points.

After 2 minutes of added time, the visitors came close to the winner, but a shot from the edge of the box was dragged wide of the post.

Although with seconds remaining, Haverfordwest had a counter attack with a 3 on 2 break away, as Kieran Lewis led the attack, and ended up passing to Jack Wilson who cut back inside on his right foot and curled an effort past Ramsay in goal. Joy for the visitors who looked to pick up their ďŹ rst 3 points of the season, but dispair for the Lakesiders who were just not good enough.

The referee then blew the whistle for fulltime, leaving the Lakesiders disappointed after a poor performance, but joy for Haverfordwest after picking up 3 points away from home.

Fantastic five for the Lakesiders!

The Lakesiders ran riot in the Friday night football with a sublime second half performance to keep another clean sheet and add another five goals to their tally this season.

Much to their credit, Aberystwyth more than tested the Lakesiders in the first half and might have felt hard done by to be trailing at the interval.

The start was quite scrappy with no threatening chances on goal in the opening quarter but it was the home side who looked brightest as they passed the ball around well and started to build some momentum with Marc Williams forcing Tibbetts into an early save before Edwards placed a header wide of the post.

Bala’s backline was busy as Spittle and Stephens cleared the danger on a number of occasions with Aber almost going ahead on 15 minutes when Phillips drove forward and passing the ball to the wing before getting on the end of the returning cross but Tibbetts saved well.

A mix up at the back saw Roberts slice a clearance into the path of Venables but when he broke into the area, his touch was heavy and the ball went out of play.

With 28 minutes played, Town took an unlikely lead. A fantastic counter attack from Venables saw him flick the ball through Jenkins’ legs into the path of Henry Jones who took the ball in his stride and blast the ball low into the back of the net.

Aber almost levelled from the restart when a corner came into the area which Williams got on the end of but it rattled the bar.

A minute before the break, Bala doubled their lead. Burke’s corner picked out Stephens which he flicked on goalwards towards an unmarked Robles who got a crucial header on it to divert the ball into the far post making it 2-0 to the Lakesiders at the interval.

Town’s second half display was much improved with plenty of impetitous in their play as they looked to build on their two goal advantage.

A moment of class came on the 70th minute when Chris Venables made it 3-0 as he dances around Philipps and unleashed a stunning strike into the top corner from the edge of the eighteen yard box and firmly putting himself in contention for goal of the month!

The goals came flooding in as five minutes later, a fourth was added when Roberts poor clearance fell to Henry Jones who burst into the box after a one-two with Smith and setting up Robles who released a rocket of a right footed volley into the net.

Seven minutes from time, Town made it five. Robles lob was pushed onto the bar by Roberts but the ball fell to Venables three yards out who nodded the ball over the line.

CLUB STATEMENT The following is a Club statement released by CEO Nigel Aykroyd: Bala Town FC have been deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Dei Bri Roberts.

Dei has been the friendly face at Maes Tegid for countless years and has fulfilled almost every Management Committee role during this time. His quiet, unassuming, friendly and compassionate manner was always demonstrated throughout his ever-present dedication to his numerous responsibilities at the Club. We have lost not only a true supporter but a true gentleman, a true friend and a truly dedicated Clubman.

Maes Tegid will be undoubtedly a poorer place without Dei’s infectious enthusiasm but his memory will forever spur us all on to continue to strive for the improvement in standards for all ages and genders at the Club which was so much in the forefront of Dei’s wishes and aspirations. He will never be forgotten!

The Club extend it’s deepest sympathies and condolences to Sheila, Stephen, Mark and all his family and to the very significant number of people who were so fortunate to call Dei a friend.

Heb os, fydd Maes Tegid yn lle tlotach heb frwdfrydedd heintus Dei ond bydd ei gof am byth yn ein sbarduno ni i gyd i barhau i ymdrechu i wella safonau ar gyfer pob oedran a rhyw yn y Clwb a oedd gymaint ar y blaen yn nymuniadau a dyheadau Dei. Ni fydd byth yn angof!

Mae’r Clwb yn estyn ei gydymdeimlad â Sheila, Stephen, Mark a’i deulu i gyd ac i’r nifer sylweddol iawn o bobl a oedd mor ffodus i alw Dei yn ffrind.
