Nigel's Notes

“Where is Maes Tegid?” is probably a question which our supporters would be asking after a gap of over 7 weeks since the last time we played a first team fixture at home! The fixture scheduling combined with a continuous run of away Cup draws has certainly not been kind to us and it has also been a somewhat disappointing period as far as results go. We have had 6 consecutive League draws and have slipped to a precarious 7th place in the table with only 6 matches to be played before the split. We do however remain the only team unbeaten away from home in the JD Cymru Premier League which is an extremely positive factor. We must though try to turn some of the draws into wins and push us into the coveted top 6 when the break arrives. We also continue to be decimated with injuries and had 7 players sidelined last weekend on the treatment table. We desperately need some better fortune if we are going to climb the table and our 2 matches this week will be so crucial towards the final outcome for this season.

Tonight we host European campaigners and League Champions TNS. We are under no illusions what that means but we must try to replicate the brilliant 3-2 away win against the visitors tonight when we last played them. They are having an amazing UEFA Conference Group stages campaign and we congratulate them on all they have achieved not only for themselves but for the benefit of all Welsh domestic football. That is as far as I go in pleasantries and now we turn to the task ahead to take all the 3 points off them this evening! It will be a fascinating encounter for us all to watch!!

It really is feast or famine at Maes Tegid – no game for 7 weeks and then 2 in 3 days as we entertain Barry Town on Saturday! The Club had planned a Christmas party when the fixture was announced but only 3 weeks ago the kick off was changed to 5.15pm to accommodate the TV cameras and we decided unfortunately to have to revert to a drinks get together after the match due to the lateness of the start. Disappointing but each and everyone of you are invited to join us in the Plas with all the Players and Management team to enjoy a little festive occasion.

We were also disappointed to see our Academy Director Dan McNeil leave the Club in November to take up a full time position at Coventry City. We wish Dan well in his new venture. We are however delighted to welcome Dr Nicholas Jones as Academy Director to replace Dan. Nick’s experience as part of our 1st Team Management for the last 4 years will be a huge benefit to the Academy and will help to bring a much stronger association with Academy and 1st Team. Nick has already taken over at the helm and we wish him the very best of luck in this difficult roll. The FAW confirmed that there would be ZERO funding for our Academy until at least 2025/26 season and this seriously jeopardises the future position. We will as always do our very best despite this unacceptable decision by the governing body.

Thank you all for finding your way back to Maes Tegid this evening. Enjoy the entertainment.

Diolch. Nigel.

CHANGE IN ACADEMY DIRECTORSHIP

Bala Town FC Academy Director Dan McNeil left his post on November 14th to undertake a new challenge as a full-time employee at Coventry FC Academy.

The Club is hugely grateful to Dan for his superb effort in rescuing our Academy from the very difficult situation he was left with in September 2023. We wish Dan the very best of luck in his new role and hope that his progression within the Academy positions continues to flourish.

We are also delighted to announce that Dr Nicholas Jones has agreed to take over the role of Academy Director. Nick has been an integral part of our entire First Team Management structure for the last four years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this new role.

This appointment will significantly strengthen the link between First Team football and Academy football and seriously enhance the pathway and progression from Youth to Senior level participation.

We do however still face a daunting task in attempting to provide first class Academy football development with zero financial funding from the Football Association of Wales.Nick is fully aware of the challenges ahead and will closely follow the excellent work Dan has done during these difficult time.

We send our best wishes to Dan on his move and we welcome Nick into his new role!

CONGRATULATIONS LUCA BECK

A huge congratulations and well done is necessary for Luca Beck, after the 16 year old made his first senior appearance for the Town in a 3-1 defeat to TheNew Saints three weeks ago.

Luca would be promoted from our Academy to the first team in August this year, whilst still appearing for our development side in which he has scored seven and assisted twice in 11 appearances in the FAW National Academy North Development League so far this season.

The 16 year old would go on to make his first senior appearance in the late stages of our 3-1 defeat in the Nathaniel MG Cup against The New Saints.

Llongyfarchiadau Luca, keep up the good work!
