NODIADAU NIGEL’S NOTES A massive Friday evening fixture under the Maes Tegid lights awaits and the importance of the outcome cannot be underestimated by both teams. Our visitors are in need of a points haul whilst 2 back to back defeats have tempered the early season euphoria for the home side and seen them slip down the table. I am finding it difficult to understand how we have returned pointless from the games against Newtown and
Met but those are the footballing facts and it is a situation that Colin and the team are eager to put right. It will be an intriguing encounter and one which always provides an exciting and entertaining match. I am sure that it will once again not disappoint. Our Reserves had another disappointment last Saturday when their fixture was called off for the 3rd time this season due to insufficient referee numbers but their undefeated record will be put to the test here tomorrow Saturday with a
1.30pm kick off. Please come along to support if you can. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed with the entertainment on offer! Please put an early “Save the Date” into your diary for the Clubs Christmas Get Together in the Plas Coch on December 14th. We would like as many of you as possible to join us for a special evening! Tonight is another “special evening“! Enjoy!

AIL DIM - RESERVES Derby day bragging rights for the Reserves! A Friday night derby day fixture was in store for the Reserves, on Friday the 13th, however there would be no Friday the 13th bad luck for Bala! 'Yma O Hyd' was played, as the Bala players took to the field, just to give the players that bit more motivation to go out and put a performance on. A fast paced start saw Bala earn themselfs a penalty in the first 5 minutes, as a foul on Cai Aykroyd was committed inside the Visitors' box! Joe Ephraim would step up to take it, to try and give Bala a very early lead in this derby fixture. However his attempt was saved well by the keeper, who launched him self to his left hand side, and saved Joe's shot, to put it round the post for a corner. Throughout the first 10 minutes, Bala saw most of the ball, passing around well, until.. Dave Yates put in a perfect cross into the box, and Tom Lloyd reached low to head the cross, right into the bottom right hand corner of the net! Tom with his first goal of the season made it 1-0 to Bala on 9 minutes! The Visitors then had their first chance on goal, as they earned a free kick about 25 yards out, but their effort went well over the bar.
Visitors to get another chance on goal, however that chance went over, and Bala regained control of the game. As the half neared its end, against the run of play, the Visitors managed to grab a goal back, which came from a free kick that went to the far post, Ruthin's attacker headed the ball which looped over Dion Jones in goal, hit the post and went in. Very harsh ending to the half, as Bala were much the dominant team in the half.
free kick about 40 yards out, chipped it right on to the penalty spot, which allowed Joe Ephraim to run in behind and dink the keeper from close range! 3-1 Bala! Bala seemed to claim control of the game again, however there were no clear cut chances to improve the lead. Ruthin were able to test Dion in goal, after a fierce shot by the attacking player was pushed wide of the post and out for a corner, great save!
Half time was called with Bala going in with a 2-1 lead, however disappointing to concede another late first half goal, to give the Visitors a chance to get back into the game.
On 82 minutes, Cai Aykroyd had a chance to make it 4-1 to Bala, however after he was let in by a clearance, his effort on goal just went wide of the goal.
The second half was away, and Ruthin started with much more of the possession, however nothing came of all their possession.
Bala did well to slow the game down by the end, by passing it about and making the visitors run.
On 16 minutes, Tom Lloyd striked again! A scramble on the edge of the box, Tom took it on his chest and with a tame effort, his Although Ruthin started much half volley creeped into the left the better side in the second hand side of the net! 2 goals in half, all it takes is a stroke of less than 10 minutes for Tom! brilliance, which is exactly what happened! The final whistle blew and Bala took the bragging rights on derby day! 3-1 victors on the night, which gives them the 3 points and lifts them to 6th in the table!

BALA TOWN 1, CARDIFF MET 2 Lakesiders let lead slip against the Archers. As the September sunshine shone down over Maes Tegid, Bala started well and can be very happy with their first half performance that saw them create plenty but not able to put the ball in the back of the net. Town's first clear cut effort came when Henry Jones' freekick was curled into the box and came to Anthony Stephens, he just failed to make a clean connection on the ball and it went wide. Alex Lang pushed out Mendes' delivery into the box before a series of corners led to Stephens flicking the ball goalwards for the awaiting Venables but Joel Edwards cleared the ball off the line with 19 minutes played. The visitors had a golden opportunity to take the lead when they broke quickly on the counter attack which saw Will Evans fire low but Morris made a solid save with his feet to keep the play at 0-0. A couple of minutes later
another counter attack from Met saw Charlie Corsby pull his shot wide of the post. Bala were finishing the half strongly sith Robles and Smith combining well and getting crosses into the area. Robles headed over from a Jones freekick prior to a massive opportunity for the Lakesiders to go ahead. Venables and Robles had their strikes blocked by Woolridge and Thomas prior to the loose ball arriving to Mendes who lobbed Lang but the ball landed on the roof of the net. The second half started in the best way possible for the Lakesiders as Town took the lead. A Bala corner was cleared and arrived to Henry Jones on the edge of the 18 yard box who drilled a shot towards the goal and saw it fly into the far corner to make it 1-0.
10
However, the lead was shortlived as from the restart, Cardiff Met were awarded a penalty for an alleged handball which Eliot Evans slotted cooly into the net. Town continued to press with Kieran Smith rattling the crossbar from around 8 yards out and subsequently cleared away. Smith headed over the crossbar on 74 minutes from Andy Burns' cross minutes later. With ten minutes left to play, Met added a second. Some awful defending from the Lakesiders which should've seen them clear the danger wasn't dealt with which allowed for substitute Dion Phillips to prod the ball in. Bala tried to hit back in the final ten minutes and almost did when Bala broke down the left and Mike Hayes curled the ball narrowly wide of the far upright. A frustrating afternoon for the Lakesiders who played well in the first half but will rue their missed chances and for allowing Met to come back it.

A huge part of Non-League football is about enjoyment and about getting away from the rigours of another working week to play the game for the love of it with people that you get along with. Of course, everyone wants success and to move up the pyramid but Non-League football also has that lovely human element of regular people enjoying their weekends while also trying to fulfil their dreams in the game. It is for these quirky tales why people like myself have come to love Non-League football and everything that it represents.
