Because of your contributions, we can make a measurable difference in the mental health and well-being of children and families. Without your help, we couldn’t have accomplished all that we have this past year!

2025 was such an impactful year of providing care for children and families across our full range of programs and services. The Center for Effective Therapy greatly expanded staff capacity, resulting in nearly 14,000 appointments and over 900 clients supported! Our team was proud to also expand our catalogue of insurance providers to greatly increase access to high-quality care treating conditions such as ADHD, trauma, depression, anxiety, behavior problems, and more.

Our special education school, Manville, flourished under the leadership of our new Senior Director, John Kershaw. The school acted as a critical resource for the Greater Boston community, providing special education in a therapeutic setting for 140 students.

Through our Quality Care Initiative, we expanded our local and national impact through our highly acclaimed training programs. This program helps improve access to effective mental health care in communities and trains mental health professionals in the foundations of evidence -based and informed trauma care. Over 4,700 individual communities were impacted by QCI training programs this year.

We are so proud of what we accomplished this past year but are also looking toward the future. Children and families need effective mental health care, and we will always stand ready to meet that need. Because of you, more children are back on a healthy developmental trajectory and looking forward to bright futures. We couldn’t do it without you!

OUR IMPACT IN ACTION

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

The Journey to Improving Care and Changing Lives At The Baker Center, our core mission centers around providing children, teens, and young adults with the absolute highest quality care to make a lasting impact on their lives. Our approach spans across a range of different programs and services, establishing connections between each of these resources to ensure a multi-faceted and truly comprehensive approach. When helping families, we look at the full road map of what their journey may look like. If a client needs effective care, in what setting should that be? How do we ensure the treatment works? To meet these needs, we have created multiple categories of programs to ensure The Baker Center provides support not only with things like a summer camp, special education school, and mental health clinic, but that we are actively paving the way for effective treatments through training, guidance, and research.

The Center for Effective Therapy The Center for Effective Therapy (CET) provides short-term outpatient, evidence-based mental health treatments for children, teens, young adults, and their families who are dealing with problems related to anxiety, depression, trauma, disruptive behavior, and parenting. At our clinics in Boston and Waltham, families from more than 100 towns and cities in Massachusetts seek support from our CET clinicians. Therapists help children and caregivers learn skills to enhance relationships and address emotional and behavioral problems. In 2025, CET served over 900 different children and families through a combination of in-person and telehealth appointments. This year, CET also introduced a brand new neuropsychological assessment service line and provided care for over 60 clients through that program.

Our direct service programs tackle the needs of families on the front lines. The treatments and interventions we use at these programs feed in directly from our training & research programs in which we identify the highest quality treatments that have been proven to work.

Our training and research programs promote effective, high-quality care which feeds into both our direct service programs and the community at large. We actively contribute to research which directly informs which treatments are going to have the biggest impact on those we serve.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Manville School is a therapeutic day school for children (K-11) experiencing complex emotional, behavioral, and diverse learning styles that impact their ability to succeed in other school settings.

Each year, more than 100 children achieve exceptional educational and personal outcomes through Manville’s curriculum, instructional, and clinical practices. In 2025, Manville educated 140 students across 54 different communities.

CHANGING LIVES AT MANVILLE Manville was the first school where my child truly felt heard. We’ve had so many negative experiences in the past where people just didn’t get what we needed and the level of understanding just wasn’t there. Manville sees my child who he really is and genuinely cares about supporting him in the way that works best for him.

Camp Baker is a six-week summer treatment day camp for children (ages 6 to 12) with ADHD and co-occurring challenges. Each summer, Camp Baker welcomes children to participate in typical camp activities such as swimming, sports, and art, while learning social, academic, and life skills that help them succeed in school, at home, and in life!

Additionally, caregivers participate in weekly group sessions focused on teaching concrete skills for parents to practice at home with their child. Camp Baker supports campers in building and maintaining friendships and builds a community of support for caregivers as well. In 2025, Camp Baker had their largest cohort of campers ever with 60 campers across 36 different communities!

CHANGING LIVES AT CAMP BAKER Staff didn’t just tolerate my child, they saw the best in them and didn’t see them as a ‘problem.’

I never worried about getting a phone call that they couldn’t handle my child, which happened in other camps and settings.

Next Step: College Success & Independent Living Next Step: College Success builds confidence for independent living and college life for students ages 1620 with social learning and anxiety challenges, or related learning differences. Each summer, students participate in a week-long overnight college campus stay and learn what to expect in college, what supports are available and how to access them, and practice how to navigate academic and social situations as they transition from home to college. In 2025, Next Step provided guidance and support to 11 college-bound young adults.

The Quality Care Initiative The Quality Care Initiative (QCI) offers professional development training to mental health practitioners to close the research-to-practice gap and to increase access to the highest quality care in Massachusetts and beyond. QCI services help to address the workforce crisis in the behavioral health workforce, producing more qualified professionals who can efficiently treat more children and families. In 2025, QCI reached over 4,700 communities and trained nearly 500 professionals in the use of evidence-based practices.

CHANGING LIVES AT NEXT STEP My son emerges from these sessions feeling more confident and competent and I, as a parent, emerge feeling like I can slow down, appreciate my child, and take some of the pressure off of both of us. I leave the Next Step sessions with a fresh perspective, realizing that my son’s differences can also be considered his strengths.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Professional Training The Baker Center provides professional training programs to current and future psychologists, social workers, early childhood specialists, special education teachers, psychiatrists, nurses, and mental health counselors. To support undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students, we offer on-the-job training through practicums, internships, and fellowship opportunities through our clinic and other programs. We train practitioners to utilize evidence-based treatment practices that will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of care. In 2025, nearly 500 professionals were mentored through Baker Center training programs.

Implementation Research Division Our Implementation Research Division operates out of Hawaii and focuses on improving the lives of those with behavioral health conditions through research and implementation.

We use a community-based participatory research approach that integrates community perspectives across all phases of research design. The method is grounded in ongoing quality improvement and building partnerships and collaborations. The research covers a wide range of different topics and conditions related to youth mental health, implementation science, and health equity. There is an emphasis on understanding youth mental health innovation in varying contexts, especially for underserved and indigenous populations. Our Implementation Research Division is transitioning to the University of Pennsylvania Center for Mental Health in February 2026.

The Massachusetts Child Abuse Emergency Line, operated

by The Baker Center for the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, provides a statewide, after hours emergency response system protecting the Commonwealth’s children from abuse and neglect. In 2025, the Emergency Line fielded over 67,000 total calls across 351 different communities.

New England Association of Child Welfare Commissioners and Directors The New England Association of Child Welfare Commissioners and Directors is a consortium of child welfare agency leaders and staff from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont working to improve the safety and well-being of children and their families, especially those with lived experience in the foster care system.

Through a myriad of events, trainings, and policy initiatives, the Association strives to engage young people to improve the foster care system.

Community Spotlight Increasing Access to Effective Care In 2025, we reached more families than ever before. One of our main goals as a family-serving organization is to identify what barriers stand before those who need effective mental health services and then work to break those barriers down. One of the most significant challenges in accessing care is affordability. Many providers and programs are only able to accept payment out-of-pocket, and that’s just not feasible for the average family. This year, we were so pleased to have been approved to expand the different types of insurances we are able to accept with a goal of affording access to care to as many children as possible. Our staff worked tirelessly this year to put this plan into action, and the populations we serve can now get the life-changing care they need. Our community grows stronger together when we put their needs at the forefront. And this is just the start! In 2026 and beyond, we are actively pursuing further insurance coverage to make sure we grow our community even further.

In FY25, The Baker Center demonstrated exceptional financial stewardship, maintaining stability, flexibility, and mission focus while navigating an unprecedentedly challenging year for nonprofits. The organization generated $31.2 million in revenue without donor restrictions, providing a strong foundation for daily operations and enabling the delivery of high-quality programs and services that directly benefit children and families. Public contracts and earned revenue provided steady, reliable support, while philanthropic contributions offered the flexibility to respond quickly to new opportunities and emerging needs. These resources allowed The Baker Center to prioritize the well-being of children and families while remaining agile and responsive.

Total expenses for FY25 were $33.9 million and were thoughtfully managed to maximize mission impact. Of these expenses, $29 million, or 88 percent, was directed to programs and services, ensuring the vast majority of resources directly supported children, families, and the community. The remaining $4.17 million, or 12 percent, was invested in essential administrative functions, including finance, human resources, compliance, and technology.

FY25 also included a planned operating deficit, which was a strategic decision to draw on reserves to sustain continuity during a period of unprecedented challenges for the nonprofit sector. These reserves were carefully deployed to support critical operations, retain essential staff, and make mission-aligned investments. With oversight from the Board of Trustees, this approach ensured that the organization could meet current needs while safeguarding long-term financial health.

The Baker Center’s long-term financial sustainability remains strong. Investments totaling $6.3 million were managed prudently to protect future capacity and ensure readiness for both planned and unexpected needs.

Independent auditors issued a clean, unmodified opinion, confirming that the organization’s financial practices and oversight are sound. Every dollar of support, whether from donors or public partners, is managed with care and purpose. The Baker Center remains steadfast in its commitment to using resources efficiently, transparently, and directly in service of its mission to support children and families.
