A Banana Republic is what happens when a tropical country gets hijacked by big business in the name of fruit. In the early 1900s, U.S. companies like United Fruit (now Chiquita) didn’t just sell bananas, they bought governments in countries like Guatemala and Honduras, building private armies, rigging elections, and even convincing the CIA to overthrow democratically elected leaders. In one case, they spread fake rumors of a communist uprising just to trigger a U.S. invasion. These companies owned millions of acres, ran their own railroads and ports, and even paid workers in company scrip they could only spend at company-owned stores. It was paradise on the surface with a pulp-fiction plot underneath.

dives headfirst into the wild origins of the Banana Republics — a term that once sounded sweet and sun-soaked, but carried the tangled weight of foreign intrigue, corporate conquest, and Caribbean chaos. Inspired by old-school Dole and Chiquita banana ads and the colorful art of 20th-century propaganda, this collection peels back the shiny label to tell the untold story in wearable form.
THE STORY
Over the years, Jeff and the team lived and traveled through Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala, drawn by the call of surf, street food, and sunsets over the jungle canopy. But beneath the beauty, we found the roots of something deeper — banana barons, CIA-backed coups, and a tropical empire built on fruit and force. From dusty border towns to forgotten railroads overgrown with vines, the ghosts of the Banana Republics were everywhere. And like all great legends, they begged to be told.
We took the hues of the lush jungles, and sun-soaked beaches to create a collection layered with vintage ad graphics, corporate caricatures, and reimagined commercial art. They’re sun-faded satire and buttery-soft rebellion. This isn’t nostalgia. It’s subversion by style.
And remember: just because it’s paradise doesn’t mean it’s innocent.
