The Water Equipment Show 2024 review: Best year on record!

The water industry joined together again for The Water Equipment Show (WES) 2024 on the 16th May at Telford International Centre but this year was no ordinary year: it was record-breaking with a phenomenal 2,200 registrants, 120 exhibitors and over 30 keynote speakers. It was the 2024 calendar event for connecting water and wastewater manufacturers, pump and pumping systems with suppliers with water company buyers for ‘real-world conversations’ and potential sales leads.
With timely concerns over infrastructure and sustainability, the sector is facing its biggest test yet and this year’s show gave the biggest players a chance to showcase innovations and solutions for the future. The theme was: ‘Innovative Solutions to Water Industry Challenges in the 21st Century’ with exhibitors sharing knowledge, expertise and solutions for climate change, water scarcity and outdated infrastructure.

Keynote speakers showcased the latest innovations in pump optimisation and AI condition-based monitoring, to prepare the industry for the road ahead. Notable conference highlights included presentations on ‘Delivering Advanced Pump Optimisation and Failure Prevention by Transforming Data into Trusted and Actionable Insights’ by James Hardwood: Digital Solutions Specialist at Sulzer and ‘Water-Resilient Water: Automating Solutions for Reliable Drinking Water Quality’ by Sara Ferdi: Product Manager at bNovate Technologies.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive from the UK’s utility and water supply company visitors and exhibitors alike, with many commenting that WES 2024 was the definitive ‘event of the year.’
“This year’s show was an incredible success, and the feedback we have received is evidence of this. It was great to see the innovations of our member’s first-hand and to learn about the ways in which they are driving solutions to pressing issues within the water industry. We had a record-breaking number of registrations this year, as well as keynote speakers and exhibitors. The Water Equipment Show keeps growing year on year and I look forward to seeing what WES 2025 brings.” John Howarth, Pump Centre Manager.
Engineering excellence was celebrated at the annual members dinner with the Young Engineer Awards with the standout award of Derek Jackson Special Achievement Award given to Amelia Swain, Apprentice Mechanical Field Engineer at United Utilities.
