A small investment in lubrication can make a significant difference
We understand how important it is that your machines run smoothly, and maintenance tasks kept to a minimum, which is why as specialists in lubrication, we also understand how lubricants can improve the effectiveness of components and the efficiency of machinery. But all too often this valuable resource is forgotten.
In our highly engineered world, lubrication is essential, and can significantly extend the lifespan of machinery and equipment, increase reliability, reduce TCO, and support best practice in audits and compliance.
A recent example of where a proactive approach to lubrication has been employed was at a new state of the art flourmill in the UK. The flourmill recently made a significant investment in new milling technology to continue their progression and commitment to sustainability. With this investment came a responsibility to ensure lubrication was managed expertly by utilising technologically advanced, food safe lubricants whilst maintaining full compliance, and set the standard for best practice in lubrication management. Driven by Buhler OEM approvals, the company not only wanted a lubricant supplier, but a company that could offer ongoing technical support and prove to be a long-term partner.
Our World Class Lubrication (WCL) Management approach involved a comprehensive survey of the site, which was conducted by an experienced Klüber Lubrication Technician and resulted in a catalogue of assets with the corresponding lubrication points and recommendations for Buhler approved lubricants. As part of the survey process, an optimisation review with recommendations for potential actions to reduce lubrication tasks by utilising Klübermatics (automatic lubricators), and sight glasses was completed.
Following survey approval, we added a colour scheme and metal detectable colour coded labels for all lubrication points. Klüber Lubrication also supplied labour for label application throughout the mill.
All relevant quality and compliance documentation was provided in the form of a Compliance Folder, and additionally, the flour mill was informed of the MyKlüber app which gives access to all relevant documentation such as Product Information, and Material Safety Data Sheets by scanning the QR code on our product packaging.
Finally, lubrication training in the form of Train the Trainer sessions were delivered onsite by Klüber Lubrication UK Technical Manager, Shaun Dell. This level of training meant that the attendees were equipped with the knowledge to deliver lubrication training in-house.

Next Steps: Taking World Class Lubrication Management on the road MAINTEC 2024, is a landmark event for the maintenance, reliability, and the asset management industry, and as industries continue to evolve and demand for higher productivity grows, the importance of effective lubrication in maintenance processes cannot be overstated. For this reason Klüber took the decision to exhibit at MAINTEC 2024 and explain how making a small investment in the right lubricant can increase the lifetime of machinery and reduce maintenance tasks.
One of our key messages at MAINTEC 2024 was our World Class Lubrication Management approach. The 7-step sequential process is designed to align with many common maintenance methodologies employed across manufacturing; whether that’s TPM, Autonomous Maintenance, or Operator Asset Care, our World Class Lubrication management approach, restores your operations to base conditions, before building a lubrication management system that delivers long term asset reliability, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.
In the context of improving maintenance processes, the implementation of a strategic lubrication program is vital. Such a program involves selecting the right type of lubricant for each application, establishing accurate lubrication intervals, and using precise application methods. It also includes monitoring and analysis to assess the effectiveness of the lubrication and to make informed decisions about maintenance activities.
Another often overlooked aspect of lubrication management is the storage and handing of them, but this is an area Klüber put a lot of emphasis on. Proper lubrication storage is crucial for several reasons that go beyond the simple need for a storage cabinet. It’s about creating a system that enhances overall maintenance practices and equipment.
Lubrication storage is essential for simplifying lubrication activities, reducing contamination risks, ensuring compliance, standardising lubricant use, and supporting effective operator asset care. It’s about creating a bespoke system that enhances overall maintenance practices and equipment reliability. You may want to keep your quality declarations and documentation in there too.
Therefore it is a topic worthy of consideration, taking it further than a standard COSHH cabinet and instead, designing a bespoke unit to ensure it meets the needs of your production processes.
A bespoke lubrication storage system, for improved visual managementIn conclusion, the importance of lubrication in maintaining manufacturing assets and improving maintenance processes cannot, and should not be overlooked. By adopting Klüber best practices, businesses can enhance the reliability, efficiency, and longevity of their equipment, ultimately leading to better performance and cost saving.
