Cyber security expertise: Assess. Address. Success. Help when you need it, not when you don’t
Here at Business & Industry Today, we are delighted to showcase Thirty Nine Cyber as our Cyber Advisory Company of the Month.
A quick glance at the Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2024 by the Home Office: Department for Science, Innovation & Technology confirms that cyber security breaches and attacks remain ongoing concerns. Phishing, malware and targeted spam are the most common threats and a third of charities and half of businesses have reported one cyber security breach or attack in the last year. Basic cyber hygiene measures can protect against basic threats, using malware protection, updated firewalls, cloud back-up and robust password policies but SMEs now need to consider more sophisticated cyber security risk assessments.

For some, this amounts to needless expense and yet more insurance policies but when viewed strategically, aligning business models with cyber security assessments offers a robust long-term protection and peace of mind.
The fact remains that as many as 1 in 3 businesses estimate they will see one weekly cyberattack attempt. The financial and reputational damage of these attacks can have serious ramifications. Many SMEs mistakenly think they are not at risk of cyber-attacks but in actual fact, 43% of all cyberattacks are aimed at SMEs.
Thirty Nine Cyber provides cyber advisory services to all UK businesses through comprehensive cyber assessment and remediation services, all proportionate to the risk appetite and resources of each organisation. Cyber Maturity as a Service (CMaaS) offers a full range of bespoke elements for all clients, including the following:● Cyber security strategy● Incident & crisis management● Strategic planning & road mapping● Incident & crisis management● Technology evaluation & implementation● Supplier risk management● Security cultural awareness● Risk management & compliance● Programme monitoring & optimisation
The company was established in April 2024 by experienced co-founders Gareth Stewart & Stuart Avery. Both bring a wealth of industrial and public sector experience from cyber security and business strategy, with in-depth knowledge of architecture, Cloud, SaaS, COBIT, NIST and much more.
We caught up with Stuart to find out more about Thirty Nine Cyber, “We provide proportionate services that are unique because we tailor them to be highly relevant for the individual organisation but maintain consistency by using frameworks, what we do is always mindful of the business model of our customer and therefore more relevant in terms of output.

“Our target customer base includes the following: SME and CMM organisations in the professional services, investment services (PE/ VC), Life Sciences, Tech and Innovation manufacturing, and Government (Blue Light and LA).
“We had a successful exhibit at The Business Show 2024 at London’s flagship ExCeL a few weeks ago. The footfall was excellent and we answered queries from many SMEs about cyber security.
“Our team are ready to support you with robust cyber strategies, to bolster confidence and ward off any potential cyber security threats. From a comprehensive pre-assessment, assessment, post-assessment and follow-up, our streamlined process will ascertain cyber health and risks, in proportion to each business. The post-assessment report will set out bespoke findings and suggest clear, actionable recommendations.”
Cyber Maturity as a Service (CMaaS) uses an assess-address-success process for all clients. By understanding each business model, Thirty Nine Cyber develops the right assessment for each organisation, creates and executes strategies to achieve outcomes and provides timely updates of all progress.
“Our range of four assessments include: the UK National Cyber Security Centre – Cyber Assessment Framework (available in full and lite), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) – Cyber Security Framework Alignment Assessment (2.0), ISO27001:2022 Alignment Assessment, and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62443 for Operational Technology Control Systems alignment assessment.
“The Assessment 1a – UK National Cyber Security Centre – Cyber Assessment Framework (lite assessment) is ideal for SMEs to identify alignments to the cyber assessment framework.
“Looking ahead to the future, we wish to extend our service to include a facility that allows for customers to conduct assisted self-assessments on-line. Watch this space!”
