The greatest danger in a BESS is thermal runaway

A single faulty battery cell is enough to start a thermal runaway which can cause either an uncontrollable fire or an explosion. Several experts have recently noted the same, leading to changes to NFPA standards making explosion protection for all BESS mandatory.

Venting By Gas Detection

One of the ways to reduce thermal runaway hazards is to detect gas escaping from defective batteries cells early in the process with the help of suitable gas detectors.

DUAL-VENT opens upon gas detection within the BESS and opens to vent any explosive gases outside, preventing any build-up of explosive gases and thereby reducing the risk of fire and explosion before being closed and reset.

Explosion Venting

In the event of a rapid thermal runaway and should gas detection fail and lead to an explosion, the DUAL-VENT includes a tested and certified explosion vent panel. This will burst open, releasing the overpressure caused by the explosion and protect your infrastructure.
