Artist Profile: Lynka

Lynka is an emerging Australian-Polish figurative abstract artist based in the Barossa Valley. Lynka’s creative practice is largely focused on Her - mind, body and identity.

Working predominantly with acrylics, she seeks to explore a woman’s relationship with herself, others and ultimately her place in society. Through simplified forms and complex lines, the work examines the transformative parallels between the rational and irrational.

Intuitively drawn to the ambiguous and the obscure, Lynka finds that working in abstraction facilitates the freedom to push these boundaries. It allows her to explore beyond the acutely obvious or logical, and invites the viewer to delve further into the work to reflect on personal associations and discover their own emotional connection.

There is great emphasis on fragmentary compositions in the artwork where negative spaces and shapes play an important role. Lines are pure and distinct in their presence, having been deeply contemplated to earn their purpose in the defining of form. Juxtapositions of fluid curves with more static linear elements create a tension that is further heightened by evocative textures, a limited palette of hues and predominantly monochromatic schemes.

A self-taught artist with an apparel design background, Lynka has participated in a number of group exhibitions across Australia to date, and in 2021 she held her first solo exhibition, ‘Moments of Being and Everything In Between’.
