Feel at home
A stay at the lodge is generously all-inclusive of breakfast, lunch and dinner with daily changing menus, open bar with premium wines and spirits (a cellarmasters list is available at an additional cost), in-suite bar, signature experiences and return Kangaroo Island Airport transfers. Reflecting the easy-going Australian way, dress is smart casual at Southern Ocean Lodge. It’s a relaxed dinner dress code, with no jacket required. Comfortable walking shoes, a warm top and weather-proof jacket are recommended year-round. In the cooler months, it’s best to pack versatile clothing that can be layered. A hat and sunscreen are every-day essentials.
Signature experiences
Kangaroo Island’s vast landscape and endless horizons beg to be explored. A series of guided adventures offers guests a first-hand encounter of abundant wildlife roaming freely in its natural environment and a chance to discover the island’s unique natural attractions.
Signature experiences are provided on an intimate shared basis with fellow guests at scheduled times. A personalised itinerary is created for each guest and presented on arrival at the lodge. Touring may also be arranged on a private basis for an additional charge, subject to availability.
Bespoke experiences
Southern Ocean Lodge offers a range of options for guests looking to explore more or pursue a special interest. Hike the wild isle from Remarkable Rocks back to the lodge or visit island providores at the source. Cuddle a koala, experience the sights and sounds of Kangaroo Island after dark or start the day with a beach adventure among the sea lions. Activities generally operate on a private basis.
Southern Spa
Set amongst the coastal heath, the Southern Spa is a private sanctuary, slung low to capture stunning views of native wilderness framed by wide open skies. A menu of signature treatments features the Australian-made alkeme spa care range, complemented with Kangaroo Island’s own natural beauty products. Three treatment rooms, a sauna and gymnasium offer guests a stylish, sensory retreat while outside on the terrace hot and cold plunge pools are perfect for soaking in the moment.
Check-in / Check-out
Check-in time is 2pm and check-out time is 10.30am. Where possible, flexibility with early check-in and late check-out will be provided, in the meantime guests are welcome to enjoy the lodge’s generous guest spaces including the restaurant and lounge areas.

Dining
Dining at Southern Ocean Lodge is an experience in itself, showcasing Kangaroo Island as a hub for artisan growers and food producers. The spectacular panorama of Hanson Bay provides a dramatic backdrop for savouring the kitchen’s dynamic, produce-driven menus. The feel-at-home bar is available throughout the day while a walk-in cellar offers a superb collection of fine, exclusively South Australian wines.
Dietary requirements
As the lodge is situated in a remote destination, it’s essential to advise any special dietary needs at the time of reservation. We will do our best to tailor menus accordingly whilst providing opportunity to enjoy a diverse range of premium regional produce. Should notice not be provided in advance, our chefs will endeavour to prepare suitable meals with the ingredients available. We regret we are unable to prepare meals requiring strict religious observance in the preparation.
Climate
A destination with year-round appeal, Kangaroo Island’s is as dynamic as the scenery: from season to season the island yields fresh perspectives. A Mediterranean-style climate produces warm summers perfect for dips in the cool Southern Ocean and temperate winters when the wildlife is at its most active. Daytime temperatures range from 25–35°C in summer to 14–18°C in winter.
Getting there
Kangaroo Island sits a mere 15km from the shores of mainland South Australia. QantasLink operates 40-minute flights connecting Adelaide to Kingscote (Kangaroo Island Airport) on most days. SeaLink operates regular 45-minute ferry transfers between Cape Jervis the mainland and Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island, located 90-minutes from the lodge via selfdrive journey.
Airport transfers
Southern Ocean Lodge is located 50 minutes’ drive from the airport and offers complimentary shared transfers connecting with scheduled flights. Upon arrival, meet the Southern Ocean Lodge guide adjacent to the luggage carousel. Private transfers may be arranged subject to availability for an additional charge.

Self drive
Many mainland car hire companies restrict their vehicles being driven on Kangaroo Island, and/or boarding the ferry. It’s best to check terms with the operator. Alternatively, guests may hire a car on the island; both Budget and Hertz operate at the airport and the ferry terminal.
