BECKONS HEAD OFFICE - SYDNEY
Claude Week was a success!!
At the start of May, Blake and Rishi (from the Denver team) were in Sydney to roll out Claude - Anthropic's AI assistant - to our core Sydney office users The sessions were a lot of fun (as you can see from the photos), and the use cases coming out of Finance, Commercial, HR and Ops have already been genuinely impressive; from a full EDM first draft produced in minutes, to 150+ ATE partner meetings planned in a couple of hours (this would have taken days to do manually), to having true HR turnover reporting across all locations for the first time ever
Denver is now live too, and we ' re continuing to expand access thoughtfully across the business.
For those using Claude, two things worth keeping front of mind We've shared prompting tips to help you get sharper, more useful outputs - how you ask matters a lot!
And as Mike's recent "Crawford's Compass" rightly flagged, the output is only as good as the person reviewing it. Claude drafts, you own it. We are using Claude to enhance what we do, not replace it!

Australia’s most beloved culinary figure, Maggie Beer, hosted a special weekend of gathering, cooking and feasting in her hometown of the Barossa Valley on May 22–24, 2026. Guests could enjoy elegant dining, farmers market gathering, vibrant regional flavors and warm hospitality as The Louise and the Maggie Beer Foundation – Maggie’s not-for-profit organisation supporting improved food and nutrition for the elderly through education –come together for a celebration of food, wine and community.
THE LOUISE
Art, Stories and a Glass of Something Special
There's a moment, somewhere between the first sip of Wonderground wine and the quiet realisation that you ' re searching a large canvas for a hidden woman, that you understand The Louise has always been more than a place to stay. The new Artist Talks experience begins gently A glass of Wonderground in hand, guests settle into the story of the lodge itself and the woman it's named after - Louise was former owner Jim Carreker's mother - a strong, independent southern lady whose spirit feels entirely at home here among the vines of the Barossa
From there, the experience unfolds like a slow, generous conversation Guests step into Emma Hack's striking piece at reception and are invited to look a little closer There's a woman hidden in that work Finding her feels like being let in on a secret In the speakeasy, Renee de Saxe's charcoal pieces carry a quiet poetry That charcoal? Burnt vines The Barossa literally embedded in the art Outside, the Diana Laidlaw totem pole stands against the last of the day's light, and for a moment the Barossa feels ancient and alive all at once Your guide doesn't tell you what to see They never do The invitation is simply to interpret, to feel, to bring yourself to it Back inside, Llewellyn Ash's glass plates in Appellation Restaurant shimmer with intention. Five panels, five seasons. Because here, vintage isn't just a time of year - it's its own season entirely, and we take that seriously.
Pause near the runnel and you'll notice the water feature catches the light in thousands of tiny points. 28,000 glass pebbles, each one placed with purpose. By the end of the experience, guests don't just know the art. They feel like they know the artists. That's the point. The Barossa is so much more than wine, and Artist Talks is one of the most beautiful ways we show that Available three afternoons a week If you haven't experienced it yourself yet, fix that soon

GET TO KNOW CARLA OUR RISK PREVENTION MANAGER FROM TIERRA ATACAMA
What was your first experience with the hospitality industry? What were you doing before?
I used to work in a heavy machinery company completely different world I'm from Copiapó, and I also worked in mining Tierra Atacama is my first Hotel, and it was an absolute career shift
Why Tierra Atacama, and why work in risk prevention?
Tierra Atacama because every day is different And risk prevention because I genuinely love being able to support people directly This place has so much magic it's unique, it's unlike anywhere else and I really enjoy being able to support different areas both on safety topics and, at the same time, learning and helping the Team with whatever they need
If you had to give one safety tip that everyone should always keep in mind, what would it be?
That safety starts with yourself If you don't take care of yourself, it doesn't matter how many times someone reminds you You have to be aware and understand what you ' re exposed to in your workplace.
In 3 words, how would you describe yourself?
Responsible, organized, and committed
Favorite drill? Fire drills, for sure!
What's the part of your job you enjoy the most?
That no two days are the same, and that I get to support people directly I really value it because I'm constantly learning and working with different Teams. I love talking with everyone I learn from them too, and I get to see where I can support them in both safety and operations We teach each other
They say altitude sickness is common in Atacama. How often does it affect collaborators and guests?
It happens quite often At 2,400 meters above sea level, your body needs a day or two to adjust If you arrive in San Pedro and the next day you ' re heading up to 3,000 or 4,000 meters, there's a very good chance you'll get altitude sickness your body simply isn't used to less oxygen And if on top of that you ' re doing intense physical activity from day one, your blood pressure drops, oxygen decreases, and your body starts reacting in all kinds of ways. So my key advice for anyone visiting Atacama for the first time? Sunscreen lots of it Stay hydrated, wear a hat, avoid running or doing anything too strenuous on your first day, and keep your meals light
CLAYOQUOT WILDERNESS LODGE
We were also pleased to welcome an educational teacher workshop hosted by former team member Brad Fraser. This hands-on experience gave educators the opportunity to step outside the classroom and engage directly with practical conservation practices that businesses can incorporate into sustainable operating models
Through exploring sustainability in action, participants gained insight into how organizations can become better stewards of the land, helping ensure we leave a positive impact for future generations. Brad and his team highlighted the importance of renewal practices by showcasing our solar installations, waste and recycling systems, on-site gardens, and our promotion of “ green travel” through e-bikes, kayaking, and hiking
The workshop also included valuable discussions around invasive species, focusing on identification and proper removal techniques to help preserve the integrity of the natural environment.
CLAYOQUOT WILDERNESS LODGE
Amid the busy pace across the property, we were able to send Sarah, David, Geoff, and Adam from the guiding team on a helicopter visit with Redd Fish to the Tranquil Creek restoration project currently underway.
This inspiring regenerative initiative focuses on reviving the waterway through tree planting, improving creek flow to support the salmon spawning habitat, and carrying out ongoing forest maintenance to help restore the landscape to its natural balance. It stands as a powerful example of long-term environmental stewardship in action.
Projects like this strongly align with our vision at Clayoquot. Looking ahead, we hope to explore similar opportunities within the Bedwell area, with the potential to develop educational experiences that we can share with our guests.
CLAYOQUOT WILDERNESS LODGE
The reception and boutique at Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge have had a complete transformation the two areas are now beautifully combined into a single, elevated space that feels very much part of the Clayoquot experience.
The retail offering has been reimagined with a genuine sense of place. Guests will find the new Beckons x Clayoquot branded apparel range alongside high-quality clothing essentials and luxury cashmere pieces A curated gallery wall and centre console showcase original works by Vancouver Island and BC artists carvers, jewellers, ceramicists, and printmakers and there's no shortage of charm with our beloved otter plush toys, Rufus the bear, leather goods, and a fresh range of souvenirs
note the Cedar wood woven belt on the wall behind the girls at reception, is a gift from local Chief Richards that was given to Craig a few years ago
The standout story of opening week goes to our two commissioned 6-foot paddles, handcarved by master carver Moy Sutherland Each piece takes several months to complete and both sold within the first week of the season Needless to say, we'll be calling on Moy again very soon

STEPHEN AT SARANTA SHOWCASE
In late April, Stephen Marshall represented Beckons at the Saranta Associates Supplier Showcase in the UK, connecting with more than 200 luxury travel advisors across 3 highly successful events
The week commenced in London at the iconic BAFTA venue at Picadilly Circus, where Stephen met with advisors through a series of pre-scheduled appointments, showcasing the Beckons collection to luxury retail advisors. The showcase then moved to Cirencester in the Cotswolds, attracting a further 50 luxury travel sellers from the Home Counties and South West England.
Hosted by Beckons' UK travel trade representation partner, Saranta Associates, the events provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen existing relationships, introduce new advisors to the Beckons portfolio and share updates from across our lodges and destinations. Several opportunities emerged during the week, including a festive season booking for four rooms at Tierra Patagonia, demonstrating the value of face-to-face engagement and the power of strong trade partnerships There's nothing quite like seeing conversations turn into bookings within days of an event - a wonderful example of immediate return on investment Many more to come from the follow up!
MEET THE TEAM! GET TO KNOW ALIE OUR REVENUE & DISTRIBUTION MANAGER IN SYDNEY!
Can you tell us a bit about your career journey and what led you to your current role as Revenue and Distribution Manager?
Started in hotels in Sydney straight out of school and spent a few years moving around Front Office; reception, switch, guest services. Eventually landed in a Reservations role underneath a Revenue Manager who became a bit of a mentor and convinced me to continue down that path From there I moved into a few revenue roles across Sydney, some Regional, and a little stint in Fiji When the Beckons opportunity came up, it was a great chance to move into looking after some truly incredible properties.
What does a typical day look like for you in this role?
Usually start the morning off with calls and chats to bridge the time gap across the US and Chile. Then I move on to checking the overnight pickup; any promo production or anything else of note, and have a look at rates for any yielding opportunities The rest of the day can be pretty varied meetings, emails, ad hoc analysis on different metrics, planning future strategies, connecting new channels No two days really look the same.
What's something you're currently working on that you're excited about?
I think as a company, our adoption of AI and our new friend Claude is really exciting It's currently both saving me time by running through analysis super quick, and also costing me time by helping me come up with all the new problems we can start to solve with it.
What's the biggest challenge in revenue and distribution that most people wouldn't know about?
Probably just how much goes on behind the scenes in order to execute a strategy. There's a lot of configuration across multiple systems and channels, and making sure they all connect in the right way to display and track things how we want is a fair bit of work that's pretty invisible from the outside. On top of that, a surprising amount of time goes into keeping partners in line when it comes to rate leakage
Outside of work, what are you passionate about?
Pretty basic, but I love going out to new bars and restaurants Sydney has a huge amount of great venues to work your way around Otherwise I try to get into random new hobbies; currently trying to re-learn the piano.
If you could have any other job for a day, what would it be and why?
Something in Criminology – probably comes from watching too many docos.
CLAYOQUOT WILDERNESS LODGE
April at Clayoquot is always an exciting time, it marks the annual “cracking open ” of the lodge as we bring the property back to life in preparation for the upcoming season.
It truly is an all-hands-on-deck effort, with every corner of the lodge coming out of hibernation.
This year, we were fortunate to have an incredible team who jumped into a wide range of tasks, from tent setup crews to power washing boardwalks and refreshing tent platforms. Thanks to their energy and dedication, we completed camp setup in record time, and the tents have never looked better
And even after tying a few thousand knots along the way, the team managed to keep spirits high and smiles all around, a true testament to the positive atmosphere that defines Clayoquot
Clayoquot continued to see a wide range of environmental initiatives take shape throughout April. Projects spanned across the property, from finalizing the Back 40 clearing, trail clearing, sodding, and turfing, to revitalizing the Outpost lawns, all contributing to the ongoing care and enhancement of our natural surroundings.
SALES TEAM AT ATE
The Beckons team was out in force during May at Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) 2026 in Adelaide, with Kellie , Rachel , Craig and Stephen proudly representing our lodges and destinations to the global travel trade
Over four days, the team completed 165 prescheduled appointments with travel buyers from around the world, each focused on sharing the Beckons story and showcasing our extraordinary Australian lodge portfolio While Australia was the primary focus of ATE, conversations were never far from our lodges in Chile, New Zealand and Canada, reflecting the reality that many international buyers sell multiple destinations and regions across the globe
The team met with many of our top-producing and emerging partners across DMCs, tour operators and luxury travel retailers, strengthening existing relationships, identifying new opportunities and generating strong momentum for the years ahead The enthusiasm for the Beckons brand, our lodge collection and our vision for experiential travel was evident throughout the week. We also attended a VIP reception hosted by the CEO of TAUCK, one of SLK’s most important group clients, hosted by CEO Jennifer Tombaugh.
SALES TEAM AT ATE
A notable theme across the week was the growing momentum from eastern markets, with a strong cohort of Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean and Southeast Asian luxury agents represented across the appointment schedule, many attending ATE for the very first time From Virtuoso members in Shanghai and Chengdu to boutique luxury specialists from Mumbai and Singapore, the appetite for high-end experiential product was unmistakable. Several of these relationships are brand new to Beckons, and the conversations were rich with possibility, from multi-generational family travel to ultra-high-net-worth private touring, with clients spending well above the Australian average per person
Equally encouraging was the warmth from our re-engaged and long-standing partners Feedback on the lodges was overwhelmingly positive throughout the week, especially from our famil guests hosted pre-ATE - from a German travel designer describing her stay at Southern Ocean Lodge as simply "the best food and best stay," to a US specialist who raved about Silky Oaks Lodge and The Louise, to a Norwegian buyer who couldn't stop talking about breakfast with the kangaroos. Partners who had drifted in recent years were actively leaning back in, and for many, ATE 2026 was the moment Beckons moved from a name they knew to a brand they're genuinely excited to sell
Beyond the appointments and business discussions, the week was a reminder of the power of teamwork Long days on the trade floor were balanced with plenty of laughter, collaboration and a shared passion for representing Beckons and our destinations ATE 2026 marked a proud milestone as our first Australian Tourism Exchange under the Beckons brand, and a wonderful opportunity to share the next chapter of our story with the global travel industry

With the dry season returning to the Daintree, so too does one of the property's most beloved experiences: Riverbank Dining. Guests and group events alike are treated to an unforgettable setting along the water's edge, and behind every seamless evening is a serious team effort F&B duo Dale and Bel, alongside Duty Manager Vano, know this better than anyone, clocking 57 stairs each way to bring the magic to life
This season we also celebrate an incredible milestone in the Silky Oaks family Terry marks a remarkable 29 years as part of the kitchen team, a testament to the warmth and dedication that defines life here in the rainforest And the legendary Robyn has been sharing her treasured photo album, a collection of memories spanning more than three decades at the property. It's a reminder of the deep roots and lasting connections that make Silky Oaks so special Keep an eye out around the riverbank too, as the resident Pademelons have been making their regular appearances, a true Aussie icon and always a favourite with guests.
Kerry Molloy, GM Huke Lodge, proudly represented Beckons and Huka Lodge throughout May, joining our US representation partner on a three-city roadshow across New York City, Atlanta and Florida. Stepping in while Stephen and Kellie were attending ATE in Adelaide, Kerry joined four fellow New Zealand luxury lodges to meet with more than 300 luxury travel advisors over two weeks talking about New Zealand’s luxury offerings, of course with Huka at the forefront!
The program combined office training sessions, networking receptions and plenty of opportunities to strengthen relationships with key trade partners Feedback from advisors who have recently stayed at Huka Lodge following its centenary transformation, or who have sent guests since reopening, was overwhelmingly positive
Many commented that Huka Lodge retains the quintessential warmth, charm and sense of place that has made it one of New Zealand's most celebrated luxury lodges for generations, while the transformation has elevated the guest experience beautifully. From the gardens to the river, the suites to the service, advisors consistently remarked that Huka Lodge is looking better than ever.
A huge thank you to Kerry for flying the Beckons flag so passionately and ensuring Huka Lodge was front and center in the minds of our valued trade partners across the United States
Southern Ocean Lodge Evolving the Experiences Program
The latest update to the Southern Ocean Lodge Experiences Program marks a meaningful step forward in how we bring Kangaroo Island to life for our guests The new 2026–27 guide reflects a genuine deepening of what we offer, building on our signature program while introducing a broader, more considered range of ways for guests to connect with the island.
At its heart, this evolution gives guests more reasons to stay longer and explore more deeply It also provides a compelling reason for past guests to return by offering new layers of discovery, even for those who know the island well As always, our aim is to balance structure with flexibility, giving the experiences team the tools to tailor each stay to individual interests and pace.
Alongside our established signature experiences, several new inclusions are worth getting across this season Experiences such as Spirit of the Cove and Cycles of Hanson Bay invite guests into the landscape in a more personal and sensorial way, while Stars, Skies & Wildlife builds on an old guest favourite (The Nocturnal Explorer) with a more immersive format The introduction of The Keys to the Sanctuary offers a truly exclusive perspective, providing rare access and deeper insight into the island’s conservation story.
The expansion into new categories is also significant. The addition of Private Tours and Guided Hikes gives our teams greater flexibility to curate stays around individual guest preferences whether that’s a tailored half-day exploration, a bespoke itinerary, or a more active and self-paced connection with the landscape
This season ’ s new experiences include:
The Cellar Table – an intimate private dining experience in the wine cellar
Spirit of the Cove – a guided coastal walk with local produce tasting
Cycles of Hanson Bay – a guided e-bike journey through unique ecosystems
Stars, Skies & Wildlife – an extended evening experience under KI’s night sky
The Keys to the Sanctuary – exclusive access with the sanctuary manager
The Hidden North – a new half-day private tour
Coast & Conservation – a deeper look at the island’s natural environment
Kangaroo Island Your Way – a bespoke private touring option
Guided Hikes including Rocky River Waterholes, Snake Lagoon and Kelly Hill to Hanson Bay
Together, these additions reinforce SOL’s position as a truly experience-led destination and one that continues to evolve while staying true to the essence of Kangaroo Island.
A special thank you to Simone and the SOL Experiences team, whose creativity, attention to detail and commitment to innovation have brought this new program to life The result is a collection of experiences that feel fresh, immersive and distinctly reflective of place
TIERRA ATACAMA
Who says training days have to be boring?
Not us and definitely not the Tierra Atacama team!
We just wrapped up two incredible days of learning, growing, and yes eating very well Because good food makes everything better, and the Atacama team knows how to do things right
Over these two days, we dove deep into leadership, explored how to keep growing together as a team, and kept our eyes on what matters most: creating the kind of experiences that not only delight our guests, but make every one of us proud to be part of this team.
But here's the thing what made these days truly special wasn't the agenda It was the people The Tierra Atacama team brought so much warmth, energy, and genuine commitment to every session that it stopped feeling like training and started feeling like something much more meaningful
That's the Beckons spirit, right there!
TIERRA ATACAMA
In the middle of the desert, something beautiful is growing and it is no accident
We want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work of our Paisajismo team at Tierra Atacama. Led by Nico, our Area Lead, and Ithan, our Supervisor, this team has transformed our gardens into something truly breathtaking. Walking through them, you can feel the care, the dedication, and the love that goes into every single plant
Creating and maintaining lush, living spaces in the heart of the Atacama desert is no small feat and yet, the results speak for themselves The change is incredible, and it does not go unnoticed
Thank you, Nico, Ithan, and the entire Paisajismo team, for reminding us that nature, when cared for with intention, can thrive anywhere even in the driest place on earth You are growing more than gardens You are growing something we are all proud of
TIERRA PATAGONIA
From the very first morning of October to the last golden afternoon of May, Tierra Patagonia was alive full of guests who arrived as strangers and left as storytellers, and a team that made every single moment feel like it was crafted just for them. Seven months. Countless sunrises over the lake. Unforgettable experiences. And a whole lot of heart poured into every detail.
To every single person who was part of this season thank you Truly You showed up, you gave your best, and you made Tierra Patagonia the magical place our guests keep coming back to
Now it's time to rest, recharge, and enjoy a well-deserved break. Patagonia will be waiting and so will we!
A very special thank you to our area leads, who kept the spirit of the Lodge alive day after day: Esteban, Lucinda, Josefina, Celso, Javi, Juan, Jessica, Marco, Susana, Eric, Daniel, Seba, Luis and Alejandro you are the backbone of everything we do This season wouldn't have been the same without each of you
Rest well, explore, disconnect, and come back with that same fire that makes Beckons, Beckons. See you on the next adventure!
