B UD ER IM WAS THE FI R ST TOU R I S M D E STI NATION ON T H E S U N S H I N E COAST. In 1862, early settlers harvested much of Buderim’s forests to build Australia’s first cities and towns. Crops such as ginger, coffee and bananas were soon planted in the rich volcanic soils. In 1914, a small gauge railway was built to transport Buderim’s fine produce from the top of the mountain to the region’s markets and wharfs. Buderim’s remnant forests, alluring flora and fauna, and exquisite ocean vistas could no longer be kept a secret as sightseers and day trippers began to ride the produce train. By the early 1920s, Buderim was widely regarded as a resort destination. Guest houses and spa lodges had opened and tourists flocked to the mountain for rejuvenation and retreat, to bathe under crystal waterfalls and drink from natural mountain springs. A new tourism destination was born.
Buderim sugared ginger was kept in the pockets of soldiers all over the world during the first and second world war making Buderim Famous the world over.
Buderim has been Visited by royalty several times and voted by British Airways magazine as one of the world’s most desirable places

The original Aboriginal name for Buderim was Badderam - directly translated this means the honeysuckle banksia which was known to grow prolifically in the sandy flats at the base of Buderim mountain, thousands of years ago.

Malumba Estate was named by Indigenous elders of the local Kabi Kabi Gubbi Gubbi tribe more than 100 years ago. Malumba directly translates in the Aboriginal language as “many rocks”. Located on top of the Buderim mountain escarpment, indeed an ancient (now inactive) volcano, when the volcano erupted thousands of years ago, many small rocks fell to the ground around the top of the mountain. This is a wonderful room where conversations can be enjoyed from the lounge with whomever is tinkering in the kitchen. Light a candle, grab a book and put your feet up! (In winter we like to light the fireplace for ambience) Also the location of the B&O speaker, this room is enjoyed best with music. Duck into the nearby study and pop on your spotify play list. The kitchen was designed with Martha Stewart in mind to be a farm house style kitchen. It is also a ‘family style’ kitchen where each person can enjoy the luxury of their own sink and bin area and not get under one another’s feet. Enjoy the convenience of three sinks, two fridges, two water filters including filtered, sparkling and boiling water from the kitchen’s Zip Tap For maximum affect when the heat of the day begins to cool, turn the air conditioning off, open the homes front double entrance doors and at the same time peel back this `from indoors to outdoors with freedom. Connect with the garden, pick some flowers and put them in a vase, enjoy the views, snooze on a nearby sunlounge while the roast takes its time in the oven. The servery window by the Nespresso machine also opens to allow food to be passed to the outdoor servery and dining.
